Weight Watchers Points Plus - The New Way to Lose Weight

Weight Watchers has been touted as one of the most successful weight loss systems available. However, even as the company enjoyed a great deal of success, critics said Weight Watchers did not do enough to encourage people to make healthy food choices. With that in mind, the company created Weight Watchers Points Plus.  The new system focuses on overall health and lifestyle changes, while the old program primarily focused on weight loss.

Weight Watchers Points Plus Formula

Previously, Weight Watchers took the “a calorie is a calorie” approach. That meant healthy foods often had the same point value as unhealthy foods.  For example, a 100-calorie apple could have the same point value as a 100-calorie cookie.  Nutritionists scoffed at this formula, since an apple is much healthier than a cookie.

The new Weight Watchers Points Plus program throws that old formula out the window.  The new formula doesn’t just look at the calories in food, but it also considers how much work the body has to do to process the food.  Because of that, it is important that people check the point values of their foods when on the Weight Watchers diet. They cannot simply use the old point system, since Weight Watchers has assigned new point values to over 40,000 foods.

Weight Watchers Point Plus Calculator

The previous Weight Watchers calculator required dieters to input a food’s calories, fat and fiber. Then, they would receive the point value.

The new Weight Watchers Plus calculator requires additional information.  Now dieters must also input the food’s:

  • Protein - Since your body works hard to process protein, foods that are rich in protein have lower point values than some other foods.
  • Carbs - People store a large amount of calories from carbs.  Because of that, the new calculator adds more points to foods that are rich in carbs.

Weight Watchers feels that this new calculator is a better representation of how bodies react to food.  Because of that, they think their clients will have more success with losing weight and enjoying healthy lifestyles.

Weight Watchers Plus Free Points

In addition to changing the points calculator, Weight Watchers Points Plus has changed their menu of foods with zero points.  Now all fruits and vegetables are zero points, so people can fill up on as many of these as they want.  The company hopes this will encourage people to eat healthy foods.

Weight Watchers Points Plus and Decision Making

The creators of the Weight Watchers Points Plus program don’t want to simply help people lose weight. They also want to help dieters live healthy lives.  They believe the Weight Watchers Points Plus program will do that by encouraging them to make healthy decisions.  Eventually, they believe these decisions will help dieters break free of their poor dietary habits.  At that point, they will stop craving carb heavy foods and look forward to healthy servings of fruits and vegetables.

Weight Watchers Points Plus is a new system for those who want to lose weight.  While the old version of Weight Watchers focused on calories, the new version focuses on overall health.  Because of that, nutritionists believe people will get healthier when they follow Weight Watchers Points Plus.
