The South Beach Diet Plan
The South Beach Diet Plan comes in three phases, which are:
- Phase 1 - Phase 1 lasts two weeks, and helps dieters stop craving refined starches and sugary foods. During this phase, you cannot eat sugars, alcohol or starches. Instead, you will fill up with meat, seafood, vegetables, eggs, cheese, nuts, salad and some fats and oils.
- Phase 2 - Phase 2 lasts until you reach your goal weight. During this phase, you will start getting 27 percent of your caloric intake from carbohydrates. That means you'll start eating whole grain bread, brown rice, fruits, peas and other carbs.
- Phase 3 - Once you reach your goal weight, you will move to Phase 3. The purpose of this phase is to help you maintain a healthy weight. Because of that, you can follow this phase for the duration of your life. When you're in Phase 3, you will up your carbohydrate intake to 28 percent. Additionally, you can indulge in some of your favorite foods and snacks, as long as you watch your portions.
It is important to note that people who gain weight during Phase 3 are encouraged to go back to Phase 1. Then, they can move on to Phases 2 and 3.
South Beach Diet Foods
While there are several different foods that you can eat while on the South Beach Diet Supercharged, Dr. Agatston recommends that people include ten super foods in their diets. These foods are rich in:
- Fiber
- Antioxidants
- Healthy fats
- Disease fighting nutrients
If you want to eat super foods, you can try:
- Wild salmon
- Broccoli
- Sweet potatoes
- Blueberries
- Beans
- Whole grains
- Nuts and seeds
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Low fat and fat free dairy
- Dark chocolate
These foods will speed up weight loss and help you get healthy faster.
