How to Lose 20 Pounds Fast – Tried and True Techniques

Learn how to lose 20 pounds fast and keep the weight off.  These tried and true techniques will not miraculously melt those pounds off, but they will teach you how to lose weight fast while you develop healthy lifestyle changes.  Do not fall for those diet programs that claim they can tell you how to lose 20 pounds in only a few days time.

While it is important to lose weight at an even pace, it is possible to learn how to lose 20 pounds fast.  However, understand that it will still take a little more time than one of those “lose weight quick” plans that only produce temporary results.  These tried and true techniques on how to lose 20 pounds are designed to help you lose the weight permanently.  As is true for everything related to your health, we recommend you consult your doctor before beginning any weight loss or fitness program.

Count Calories

Keep track of the calories your body takes in.  Before you begin your weight loss journey, it is important to know how many calories you are taking in at your current weight.  Our online calculators can help you determine how many calories it takes you to maintain your current weight. Once you determine how many calories it takes to maintain your current weight, you will want to reduce your calories by approximately 500-1000 each day.  This should be divided up by calorie reduction in food and by burning calories through exercise.  This should help you to lose one to three pounds a week, which is a healthy weight loss goal.  Never eat less than 1,200 calories a day.  This will put your body into starvation status, and it will begin to store fat and slow down your metabolism resulting in many health risks and a stall in weight loss.

Exercise to Burn Calories

Get physical!  Too many people think they can just cut down on fatty foods or calories and be skinny again.  Sorry, this won't work.  If you just spend 30 minutes of your day doing some type of physical activity, you can burn approximately 100 to 500 calories per day.  We have hundreds of exercise tips and product reviews on our website, READ THEM! That is only 30 minutes out of 24 hours.  Make an effort to set aside this time.  Schedule it in.  Exercise does not have to be boring.  Put on some music and dance around or use a dvd workout like turbo fire, turbo jam or zumba latin dance workout , go for a walk, or play outside with your kids. Replace High Calorie Foods with Low Calorie Foods

By simply replacing a high calorie food you like with a low calorie food that is similar, you can reduce your calories significantly without sacrificing all of the fun foods.  While you can keep some of your favorite treats, you need to try to add in more fruits and vegetables that contain a lot of water.  These are filling, yet offer less calories. Keep a Food Diary

A food diary is key on how to lose 20 pounds. It is so important we wrote an article about food diaries back in July 2008! This will help you to see where you are taking in more calories than you should and where you should be replacing some of the high calorie foods.  It truly helps you to make better food choices.  Your goal will be to try and eat as many foods as you can with the least amount of calories.  When you write it down on paper or using online programs, you are holding yourself accountable for those calories.
