HCG Diet Dangers - Is There Anything To Worry About?

There is no doubt that you have heard of the HCG diet and how effective it is in delivering incredible weight loss. You have probably heard stories of people losing over a pound of fat per day and transforming their body in very short periods of time with relative ease. But, you must have wondered to yourself, “Sure, the results look good, but what about the potential side effects? A diet this extreme must be dangerous, right?”

In reality, the HCG diet is safe when you follow the weight loss plan and your doctor’s advice. Everything you need to do on the diet, from your caloric intake to exercise and HCG drops or injections, is all pre planned. If you start to make changes and try to switch things up, bad things can happen.

Here are some of the main reasons people experience negative side effects and put themselves in danger when using the HCG diet.

Cutting More Calories

The main reason why the HCG diet is so effective is because of the ultra low calorie diet that is used in conjunction with the hormone drops/injections. When on the HCG diet, you should be consuming no more than 500 calories per day from the list of accepted foods. This is about 25% of what your body needs on a daily basis, so it makes up the remainder of its energy needs from stored body fat.

If you try to cut more calories and speed up the weight loss process, only bad things will occur. Your body can only handle so much weight loss at a time, and if you go below the allotted 500 calories per day, it will start to rebel against you. It is essential that you follow the HCG diet plan to a tee.

Doing Excessive Exercise

When most people think of an extreme diet, they think of excessive cardio and training. While that may be desirable on a traditional diet, it can be dangerous on an HCG diet. It’s always a good idea to do some basic exercise once in a while, but if you do long, daily sessions while on the HCG diet, you will cause more harm than good. Keep your exercise under control and you won’t experience any issues.

Diverging From The Overall Plan

Overall, most people experience problems because they diverge from the diet plan. The HCG diet offers incredible results, but it is very extreme and things can go wrong in a hurry. Remember – the HCG diet was designed by doctors to offer the maximum level of fat loss. If you try to make changes to optimize results, only bad things will happen. The doctors have done the research; they have experience – stick with their advice.

What’s the worst that can happen if you commit any of the above mistakes while on the HCG diet? Considering the extremity of this diet in the first place, some rather bad things can happen to you. When people make the above mistakes, they usually report feeling weak, dizzy, and experience bouts of low blood pressure. This is their body telling them that something is wrong, and that they need to get back on the HCG plan. If they continue to ignore the signals their body is sending them, the potential health issues they experience could get more serious.

You may be asking yourself, “With these potential risks, however small they are, is the HCG diet worth my time and effort? Why don’t I just stick with a traditional diet?”

The HCG diet is still relatively new in terms of mainstream nutrition and there are very few studies available that indicate the effectiveness of this dieting technique. But one in particular, conducted by W.L Asher and Harold W. Harper, followed a number of individuals on an HCG diet and noticed incredible results. To quote the specific study, “The HCG group lost significantly more mean (average) weight, had a significantly greater mean weight loss per injection, and lost a significantly greater mean percentage of their starting weight.” You can read the remainder of the study for yourself here - http://www.ajcn.org/content/26/2/211.full.pdf

The HCG diet does pose some potential dangers if you do not follow the specific directions and complete all your hcg diet drops or injections on schedule. But, this is true for any diet – you need to stick to the plan for success. If you want to lose as much weight as you can in a very short period of time, you need to use the HCG diet. Follow the directions, be safe, and you have nothing to worry about! As with any diet or exercise program, we recommend you consult with your physician first.
