Diet Drama Book By Nancy Redd

Diet Drama is a book written by Nancy Redd, New York Times bestselling author of Body Drama.  This book is targeted towards young women.  It addresses many of the challenges young women face today regarding their body image.  This book is not a guide for losing weight.  It is a guide that shares valuable information on how to take control of your health by making smart choices.  Its focus is on promoting positive self-esteem, self-empowerment, and confidence in your body, regardless of your size. Information Included in the Diet Drama

This book shows 4 real young women that are struggling with the many different obstacles young women commonly face about their weight.  It shares with you their struggles to lose weight.  The girls are of different body types and sizes so you can relate at whatever stage in your life you are at.

Each chapter in this book focuses on common health and body image issues.  You will also find the following:

  • Tips on healthy living
  • Strategies to getting in shape
  • Tips on eating healthy
  • Self-perception of health
  • Tips for getting healthy on a budget
  • Learning the importance of portion size

Goals of Diet Drama

There are three main goals that Nancy hopes to accomplish with this book.  She hopes to promote mental, emotional, and physical health.  She has divided this book into three sections, which are:

  • Love your Body
  • Move your Body
  • Feed your Body

Most “diet” books do not start off trying to get you to love the body you have.  In fact, that is the last thing they want you to do.  Their primary goal is to get you to buy whatever it is they are selling.  Therefore, they will actually promote the idea that you need to make a change to look better.

In the Love your Body section, Nancy discusses the mental aspect of how you feel about yourself.  She helps you to see that being healthy is not just losing weight, but is about how you feel about your body mentally and physically, inside and out.

Eating disorders stem from how you mentally feel about yourself.  An eating disorder does not always mean you are an anorexic or bulimic.  In fact, according to Nancy, more people suffer from compulsive overeating and binge eating than they suffer from anorexia and bulimia.  Binging does not always mean you are bulimic.  Those who binge will add on unhealthy excess body fat.  Therefore, addressing your mental issues is important in learning why you do what you do, so you can address ways to help you overcome these issues.

In the Move your Body section, you will learn some easy, fun, and inexpensive ways to get your body moving.  The exercises are easy to do and all you need is a floor and a will to get moving.  This part of the book will share with you the benefits of exercise, proper stretching techniques, and the importance of cardiovascular and strength training exercises.  You are encouraged to find an activity you love and to start doing it frequently and happily.

In the Feed your Body section, you will learn how to pick proper portion sizes, as well as how to determine what is healthy and what isn’t.  You will learn what nutrients your body needs to maintain a healthy body weight.  Not only will you learn about portion sizes, but you will learn how to “balance” your plate so that you choose the right amount of carbs, proteins, and fats you need for a healthy diet.
