So are you a musician? I find that most people who are into DT are or were musicians at one time.

Was. Did a lot of woodwinds, orchestra, jazz back in the highschool days, and a little bit in college. Got into Dream Theater about 8 years ago or so. I agree though--they're definitely the sort of group that you won't like unless you're able to appreciate the musicality of their work.

Got my attention with the thread title. I been listening to DT since 1989 in high school. I play bass. You guys listen to Circus Maximus? Their first album reminds me of old Dream Theater. Great stuff.

I can't honestly say I have ever heard of Circus Maximus but I will be sure to check them out! I'm always looking for something new. I am still very into metal. Playing guitar was a big part of my life. I still play on ocassion. DT was the band that made me chalange myself. I never felt satisfied playing 3 chord covers. Do you still play and if so what kind of rig do you have?
