Alcohol and P90X 8 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Is it possible to drink alcohol on the P90X diet? I know this is a pretty dumb question, but I am in college and don't really want to cut out my social life completely. I saw someone ask this question on a different page here, but didn't see an answer. I am about to start the plan, but wondering if I could sub it in for anything on the diet?

Thanks,

Eric

I can only speak for myself, I've had some alcohol in the last 2 months. What I did is switch from reg beer to lite beer. It is like drinking water to me but what can you do? I've had some wine and a few mixed drinks. I've cut back a lot since starting the program.

That is like saying, can I have Ice Cream on P90X.. Yes you can, but you will be having it at the expense of less results!!!

I guess the keys would be choice and moderation. I have a couple of Rum and Diets on the weekends. I would stay away from things like Margaritas and Pina Coladas (Sweet Syrup Drinks) these have 300-500 cals each, believe it or not!! A Rum and Clear Bacardi packs about 90 cals and no carbs. A Mic Ultra, about 100 cals and 2 or 3 carbs. You go up from there!!

I would definitely NOT drink prior to exercising as alcohol dehydrates and you will be sweating during each and every workout. If you are not, you are not trying!!!

Keep it moderate, keep it safe!!!

Good luck!

it is absolutely a bad idea if you over indulge, too much sugar.

with that said i blew my week of hard work, I didn't eat enough, I didn't drink enough water and average about 4 drinks a night. but as some of you know my diet is well not great.

you should do what makes you feel good. don't kill your social life at the expense of feeling good, looking good with an abundance of energy, at the expense of staying sharp and alert in class because you're never bonking,

Do the knowledge.

You can have great success and still have a few beers. I too, would recommend switching to a lite beer and here is a tip for you. For every 12 oz of beer you drink, you must then drink 12 oz of water. This has two affects. One it reduces binge drinking and two it helps your body to get more water in when introducing alcohol, especially beer (as opposed to wine).

Good luck!

Well I have to say I drink 2 glasses of wine a day and it is suppose to be good for you.

See example below.

In a study of more than 18,000 men, Harvard scientists discovered that those who had an average of two drinks every day, 5 to 7 days a week, had the lowest risk of heart attack. And researchers at the University of Buffalo found that men who consume that same daily amount have lower levels of abdominal fat than those who drink only once or twice every 2 weeks.

This was from Mens Health which I subscribe to.

Just my opinion, and I will play devil's advocate here, but didn't most of us try this program because we needed a change in our lives, didn't like the way things were going and NEEDED something different to snap us out of that routine? Why not try NOT drinking any alcohol for the 90 days, do the program as directed and see where you end up. Yes, you can keep doing what you are doing, but I don't think you will see a true representation of the program.
Trust me, the kids in college will not notice one bit, you can still go to the parties, and if need be...put your water in a beer bottle, that way no one will notice. If your friends are true friends, they will understand and may admire your commitment, then again, from my experience, they'll be too drunk to notice anything anyway.

Addict has a good point. But like anything else, you get out, what you put in. If you are dedicated to this OR any other program, you will succeed. How come so many fat ladies are on Weight Watchers and failing at it?? Because a cookie here and a small fries there add up to a big olde butt down there.

There is nothing more frustrating than having to win back ground that I already worked to win. If I get down under 200, I worked to get there!!! I really despise having to work hard again to get back under. When I could be working to get to 195!!!

But you also have to balance the emotional effect of deprivation. Many quit programs and diet plans because they feel deprived for too long. Just be moderate, and NEVER DRINK AND DRIVE!!

I'm drinking one time per phase. I've never been a one or two beer kind of guy - I've always been all or nothing. So one night once a month I'll go all out. I'm ok with any set backs that may happen because of to it. It's a helluva lot better than what I was doing pre-p90x...and I'm dedicated to sticking to the diet 100%.

This is a decision I made when I started. I wasn't going to cut out drinking, even though I absolutely knew I wouldn't get as good of results. I like to have fun! Whether it be sitting at the poker table with my friends or shooting pool at the bar, I like to have a beer or ten while doing these things. It is a decision I am comfortable with.
What I did do is limit it to Saturdays. I might have a couple on Friday nights, but no more than a couple. And none during the week, ok well maybe I had 3 on St. Pactrick's day

Wow - this has become a hot topic. You all made some good points but I believe in balance and moderation. However, I do think when starting off you should cut it out for at least a month. People who diet and join gyms always seem to quit after the first week or two. They get frustrated because they don't see any results then just quit. If you become dedicated for a month you will build momentum and once you have that momentum you will be unstoppable.

You will feel so good about yourself, you will voluntarily cut back on the junk food, beer, etc. I promise you will. You'll love what you see in the mirror and you'll say to yourself "No beer this week"!

I love going out every once in a while and having 3 or 4 cold beers, it's my release and I also enjoy having some tasty hot wings with my beer!

Well I'm pretty close to your age Im assuming. I say give it up for now. What is 3 months of not drinking? Really. Become that machine you've always wanted to be. Rise above the challenge and dominate. We're young and have plenty of life ahead of us to be drinkin. But lets make the best out of our selves while we are while we are still young and its easy or we might regret it later. From one young partier to the next.

Re:Alcohol and P90X 8 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 2
since this thread has turned into an advisory one, here is more.

your friends want you at the parties, they don't care about you're alcohol of choice (being a college student i know you don't have much for choices, the cheaper the better) or whether or not you're drinking, they just want you there.
Another thing is that, this could be your schtick, the cat working around with the bottle of water and having as much fun as the drunk ones.I 'd bet the girls will notice you, because you're being yourself, it shows discipline.

and i would advise against Addict's suggestion to fill up your beer bottle with water, that's deceitful

I would be careful, in some states you could be arrested for putting water in a beer bottle, not to mention you would need to watch out for falling Milwaukee's Best cans.

And TiamatFix, I love your attitude, Your energy is evident and can help others stay motivated, even for us middle aged guys, so keep it up.
