Week 2 done, what can I expect in week 3? 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Aloha all, I finished week 2, day 7 today and tomorrow is week 3, day 1! I've had a ton of fun with P90X, though I wouldn't have said that during the first week. I'm still sore in a few places but not like I was after week 1, day 5, which I'm sure everyone is familiar with. I started at 254 lbs, and I'm currently 243, with noticeable loss of my love handles. I do my workouts in the morning, up at 5AM, pushing play at 5:30 after a protein shake and water.

I'm thinking towards tomorrow's chest and back, and I want to up my intensity, but I don't want to over do it. I hope that my body is used to the routines that I can keep going, though I'm still doing assisted pull-ups with a chair.

My wife thinks I'm silly for taking day 7 and day 14 photos, but this is a big deal for me, I've never committed myself to something like this before and the support from this forum has been nothing short of fantastic and helpful.

Anyway, if anyone has any tips on how to approach week 3 or even week 4, I'd love to hear them. Did you change your diet? Did you change anything in your pre or post workout routine? I'm really focusing on form vs. quantity, and I'm still using 15lb weights for everything, though I may have to up them for week 5. Thank you and keep pushing play!

I'm right there with you. Today was week 3, day 3 for me. Monday I wanted to really bring it and came up short. I had a lack of energy. Today was intense. No breaks, pushing hard and on top of it I jogged a mile this morning.

Don't set your exceptions too high just yet. Don't assume you know just because you've done it a few times. Work on the form and make them count. Also make sure you have some calories under your belt before diving in. So much more power after I eat a few things.

I've also lost 15lbs since starting. Don't feel silly about day 7 / 14 photos. I'd take photos everyday if I could lol. I'm feeling great and loving it. Though at the moment my body is kinda in a weird stage. Muscle is building, weight is being loss but I'm still fat. So I look odd in certain places. Just keep pushing it.

Hey Plutus,
Thanks for the reply. I finished Day 1 of week 3, and I was able to push myself a bit more on the pushups, but definitely weak sauce on the pull-ups still. That's ok, as long as I'm pushing myself. I'm able to do the dive-bomb pushups, but still no go on the diamond pushups, those are brutal. I was still too gassed to do Ab Ripper, but I'll do that when I get home tonight.
I'm glad you mentioned your weight loss, I too have lost 11 pounds since starting, but I too have muscle growing but fat still on my belly. My love handles have shrunk, but are still there. I started at 254 pounds and I've been at 243 the past two days. I try not to focus on the weight, but it's hard not too, especially when you don't see any visual changes. I hope that I'll be able to push myself more on Plyo tomorrow.
Thanks for the advice and keep on truckin!

Diamond push-ups are pretty hard. I have to spread my hands apart to do them. Tony says you can do that if you need too. After about 5 I usually end up on my knees which he also suggest. Don't just stop. Find away to do them and note the modified version on your worksheet.

I log my weight on my blog every saturday and update it daily with a progress report/nutrition report. I'm going to stop loosing weight at some point because muscle weighs more then fat.

Okay, felt the need to step in here regarding the "muscle weighs more than fat" comments. They've been discussed previously in the forums and I wanted to be sure everybody's on the same page here. I see them popping up more frequently again, so it's time to be clear.

A pound of fat weighs as much as a pound of muscle...one pound. So to try to equate one weighing more than another really is not the best approach.

It's better to consider that one pound of muscle takes up much less space than one pound of fat. That's why we can work hard and lose inches, yet not lose weight. We're building muscle and metabolizing fat stores in the process, so there's less fat and more muscle and a trimmer, fitter us in the process.

Besides, a pound of muscle looks better, feels better, and is more metabolically active than a pound of fat. If you're too fat (the finger points back at the screen at yours' truly here!) then you'll lose more weight than someone who isn't too fat, because you'll have more fat to metabolize.

I realize that this sounds like semantics, but we Spartans want to be accurate whenever possible.

Hope this helps...

Kevin

Kevin,

Thanks for the post. I didn't know that I've always been told muscle weighs more then fat. I did a search and found this: http://www.onemorebite-weightloss.com/muscle-to-fat.html which explains a bit and has a picture to go along with it.

Thank you for correcting and informing me.

You're welcome.

The only reason I knew is that I made that mistake and someone corrected me. It's an honor to pass it along. Thanks for the link..it's a great illustration and it made me work harder in Core tonight!

Sparta-bound!!!

Thanks for the info, Kevin. I too have read a lot of the posts and looking at the scale every day is not something to get wrapped up in. Not seeing the metamorphosis taking place under the skin is vexing so hoping on a scale gives us feedback, even though it's not accurate.

I finished week 3 day 1 today and I was able to add a few more reps. I feel stronger, no doubt about that. I work out at 5:30 in the morning, and now that it's later in the afternoon, I can feel the soreness starting to creep in. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's plyo, more cardio!
