Skipping Yoga and Eating habits 1 Year ago Karma: 0
I started p90X on Saturday and so far I like it. I am a little weary becuase I am a cardio freak so I am hoping I can live with only 2/3 days of cardio for the next 90 days. I did a couple of the videos before i officially started - YogaX being one of them. First off I cant stand Yoga to begin with and after only 34 minutes of YogaX, I was bored and turned it off. Today is my official first Yoga day and I was wondering if anyone skips Yoga all together and replaces it with one of the Cardio DVD's?

Also I am a pretty good eater, obsessed with food labels and watching what I eat - I measure out all of my portions and I TRY to maintain a diet of 30% protein, 50% carbs, 20% fat - at the same time I like to give myself one cheat day a week - I think its important so you dont cave in when dieting. I do not plan on following the diet book that came with P90x because after reading it front to back, I do most of what it says - the only thing it did not really tell you if it is "ok" to have a cheat day - any thoughts?

I love the yoga. I find most of the positions difficult since I have extremely tight hamstrings but I've NEVER been able to touch the floor while standing . I can almost get my fingers on the floor after only 2 1/2 weeks in the beginning of an exercise and I'm getting close to planting my palms near the end. If you really wanted to skip it though, do the Stretch X. It won't give you the same benefits but it's a milder version of the Yoga.

I think a cheat day would actually hurt more than help. Maybe have a cheat meal, once or twice a week, a sinful snack here and there wouldn't be too bad. But if you eat healthy all week long and then drown your body in fat, sugar, etc for a day it's going to get confused and you probably won't lose as much fat as you could.

Corp_T... that is a very common sentiment and there here been numerous threads regarding this. If you take a look in the exercises section, there is a sticky post that has some good information on Yoga. It is a critical part of this program and replacing it with Cardio X isn't really the best way to go, because Cardio X doesn't give you the same benefits that Yoga does.

Thanks for the advice - I actually ended up doing the YogaX DVD and this time around got through an hour and it wasn't to bad. So, I will continuing doing this DVD..

For the cheat day - I agree and that is what I meant - having a meal that you love here and there - but not going hay wire the whole day..I am really not looking to lose a ton of weight maube a few pounds. I am doing P90X more because I am bored of my current routine..

well cheat meals to me is setting your self up for failure. Sometime it happens, but just remember have "one cheat meal every 7-10 day = Muscle and fitness mag"

just like muscle confusion is to food confusion hahah lol

but if your strict like me eat 99.9% clean you'll get crazy results! and drop those pounds of fat

I dont like yoga at all... It doesnt help that I am not at all flexable: but if you start with the stretches & skip to @ the halfway point - the moves become slightly less impossible & boring! Good luck & God Bless!

I've been doing a different 40-min yoga video in place of the P90X Yoga video. I tried doing the P90X one for the first two phases and just can't stomach it anymore. I am already very flexible and remembered that I used to LIKE Yoga before P90X... back when I used to use the 40-min video... That's why I went back to using my old one during Recovery after Phase 2 (when I had to do Yoga twice in one week).

P90x/beach body quote "Decide, Commit, succeed"

If your not going to commit to it then, might as well not do it. I never done yoga before and thought it was stupid. In due time it gets better, i wasn't all that flexible, but when you go for it, i mean "BRING IT" you will see better result and become more flexible. Same goes for muscle growth, you want to get bigger there fore you lift weights.

"JUST DO IT" - Nike.
"BRING IT!" - P90X

I never did yoga before this and when I first popped in the DVD was taken back by the 90 minutes it covers. I made it a 1/2 hour the first time, about 50 minutes the 2nd time and then all the way through so far. The only time I haven't made it was with time issues, and then I stop after the movement portion. If I can, I'll skip ahead to the stomach moves and then call it a day. But, if I have the time, I finish it, no problem.

It is kind of annoying when you see how long it takes, but once you get into it, the time kind of goes by quickly. I don't have any problems doing the yoga. It's not my favorite, but I don't dread it like I do plyo or legs and back, which I don't like at all.
