Power Tower 8 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 0
Have decided to commit to P90X and am gathering all the gear. Due to the layout of my garage and my height I'm not real keen on the door jamb style chin-up bars. So I've been looking at the towers that are available, originally thinking they wouldn't be much more expensive than the door bars. My wife wants to do the program as well and would like to get one w/ the assisted chin-up mechanism. Of course that jacked the price range up a bit but I've found what looks to be a good one and most importantly FREE shipping! Was wondering if anyone else has the ProForm 21.1 Assisted Power Tower and or can recommend any others? The one I'm looking at is noted on the link below:

Tks,

I just have a regular power tower but it would be nice to have the assistance stuff. You could save around $75 without it though. My wife is also doing it but she has opted to use the bands for the pull-up exercises instead. I guess if you don't need the bands for any other exercises you could use that extra $20-30 towards that good tower. Either way, get ready to start pulling and pulling and pulling. Welcome aboard!

This would be great and it's at a great price. THe only thing I see is that on some of the Pull-Up routines, Tony does the close grip pull up and it doesn't look like you could do that on this Tower. And by close, I mean thumbs touching end to end, that's the distance.

Otherwise, I get it in a heart beat.

Yeah, I forgot about that. When I started looking I wanted to make sure I got one with the bar all the way across.

Dang...already ordered it. Hopefully I'll be able to just do the close grip stuff on one side. Either that or I'll have to rig up something to allow that.

Yeah I tried telling my wife that you can easily use a chair or something to help once you start getting close to failure. Back in the day before the assisted towers were in gyms I used to use a squat rack and would put a barbell down low and put my feet on there and help push a little when it got hard.

I checked and the order hasn't shipped yet, should I consider canceling the order and just get one w/ a straight pole? Would I be missing out on key parts of the work out w/o a straight bar?

Out of luck I guess, can't cancel the order. Will just have to figure out a way to make due.

Anyway, got the notification that the disc's have shipped so I'm looking forward to that!
