HELP : Questions to those who are expierenced 8 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
OK I'm totally new to this workout program. i don't workout that much only five days a week. I've spent money in the past on programs like this(like Billy' boot camp for instance) without doing research and finding out that it wasn't that good. I'm in my adolecent years. Is this program truly a good program and can I do it at my age ? Does the program itself require supplements ? Does it require 6 to seven meals a day ? What type of equipment do I need ? Do i have to have some sort of sport involved ?

Thanks to all who respond

Ok when you say adolecent do you mean late teens? or do you mean like 14 or 15? I'd recommend you be at least 16 or 17 and have some experience with weight bearing work outs before you start. Don't wanna stunt any growth, and I'm dead serious when I say that.

As far a equipment here is a list of must haves:

Dumb bells: weight you can curl with at least 16 times with and another set probably 5 to 10lbs heavier to start with. Then a few lighters ones for lateral raise type moves.

Work out bands: Ok, not so much a must but its nice to have a set ranging from light to heavy so if your weights start to get boring you can mix it up, they totaly work out your muscles in a new way.

Pull up bar: Need I explain more? Bands will work at first but I recommend a pull up bar asap.

Yoga/Plyo mat: Ok I don't have one and I'll tell you now I'm suffering because of it. Even though I'm on carpet I'm slipping like mad during yoga and it puts alot of unneeded strain on my muscles to hold certain positions and taking away from the purpose of the work out.

Is this a good program?

You bet your butt it is. No matter what your goals are you can modify this program to fit your needs. There is no right weight or right amount of reps. Less reps more weight for bulk. More reps less weight for lean and toned mass.

I know it sounds silly when I bring my mom into this but she has been working in the fitness industry for 22 years now, 2 years longer than I've been alive and has more certifications for teaching different things than I can count. She watches me do the work outs from these dvds and says "wow those are some tuff work outs, mind if I look through them so I can steal some moves off of them for my classes?" Mind you she can do all the moves on all the dvds and make me look like a fool her word is a word of a professional, and if that isn't good enough reason for you to give P90X a shot I don't know what is.

I agree with Taimat... This is the best I have seen so far as it is the most balanced!! Aerobics, yoga, weights in good groups, etc.

I would recommend that you drop the $20 copay and discuss starting a new program with your Doctor. This program is for real and you WILL get out of it what you put into it. But you have to be willing to work on a consistent (read DAILY) basis. No skipping, no sitting out sets.

If you failed at other programs, you have to look inside and ask yourself if you did every set, did you push play EVERY day.

You can run in place for 60 mins every day and you WILL lose weight if you eat right.

So far it is working for the dozen or so men and women that talk on this board every day. Use each other every day and you will see better results... My 30 day pics will be taken a week from today, I can't wait!!

At your age, I would definitely urge you to see your doctor. You may also want to train with someone to check form and posture to prevent injury.

The cardio workout is used as a supplemental during the classic program. I have done it a couple of times on 'rest' days, replacing stretch. It is 60 minutes of different exercises taken from the other videos for the most part. Jumping jacks in 3 or so forms, running in place, some kempo, etc. You will sweat for sure, but I did not think it was anywhere near as intense as say Plyometrics (jumping).

But unless you are already in a program in school and used to real training with weights, etc. I would take extra cautions so you do not push things too far and cause a permanent injury.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

If you mean, do you need to bulk up before you start? No, this program will make you bulk up. From your age it sounds like you might have a little trouble making sure you diet is right if your not buys all your own food. But your very young still and you said you where skinny so I say forget about the diet part of it right now. Your still growing, even if it may not be up. Just make sure your eating plenty of proteins, lots and lots! Eat cottage cheese, beans, meats(perferably chicken), and some kinda of protein suppliment.

Sounds to me like your getting ready for a sport or your just tired of being the skinny kid at school. But seriously if you've never done any weight lifting on a regular basis or haven't done any team sports I'll have to agree with Iskarp on the doctor thing. Cause seriously if you injure something serious like a rotator cuff or your knee it won't only hurt now but you will pay for it as you get older. Best of luck!!
