While I do understand some of the naysayers premises about certain inconsistencies within the program I have to say that it is an incredible program. Anything or anyone that achieves any level of success will have its critics. But the p90x has gotten more people off the coach than any other program. Glad to hear about your weightloss

Most of the points about P90X that critics like to talk about are really nothing more than strawmen arguments. Bodybuilders will say "it doesn't work, you'll never get as big as me or so-and-so doing just pushups and pullups". Of course, they fail to realize that most people don't want to look like them....in fact, if I did, my wife would probably divorce me.
Others will say "P90X is bad because it promotes a 90 day attitude....you can't replace a healthy lifestyle with a 90 day program". I guess you can see their point considering how many times Tony (and the P90X exercise guide) says during the program that as soon as you finish your 90 days, you should stop eating healthy and forget about exercising..... It seems that most people who actually complete the program continue living a pretty healthy lifestyle, although maybe not religiously counting calories anymore. P90X obviously works. Any fitness plan that has you doing strenuous exercise 6 times a week and eating healthy will work. P90X is simply a well organized and easy to follow plan that doesn't require a ton of equipment. Is it the best possible exercise plan ever devised? No. Bit it does work. |

I think the 90 day time table is just a way of getting people to feel like it's more attainable. If you change and think I'm going to change forever it's pretty daunting. But, if you're on the program and you're counting days 1-90 it doesn't "seem" like a huge change and it's something more attainable. Once you get there you've already developed good eating and exercising habits and you're on your way to a healthy lifestyle.
Most of the arguments I've seen is that there are more efficient ways to achieve what you achieve with P90x. Problem is, like me, many people have families and no time for a gym. P90X provides the knowledge and tools to change your life in the comfort of your own home using what means you have available to you. It also, in my case, becomes integrated into your family life as opposed to, dad's gone every day for an hour or 2 to work out. Instead I'm here and my kids are seeing what I'm doing and joining in from time to time. Setting the example for my kids/family far outweighs anything a gym has to offer. Anyhow, that's just my 2 cents. |

I was in a P90X discussion once on the Runner's World forums. A couple of guys were just going on and on and on about what a sham P90X was. that it has no "measurable indicator of progress" and that its nothing "special or new". it was pretty unbelievable what they were saying, though having zero knowledge or experience with it.
A lot of its benefits have already been mentioned above. is it the best thing out there? maybe. Is it some new and radical? no. but it places everything in a nice little $120 package for you. |
