TOPIC: is p90x for me?
is p90x for me? 3 years, 4 months ago #7865

Sorry if this is asked often..I looked and didn't find anything..
I have p90x, I've been scouring the internet to see if it was worth it, decided it was, and then wondered about the lack of cardio. I am primarily interested in weight loss. Being strong is great, but I am not looking to bulk up. I know someone will give me the lecture on how women do not bulk up, but I must be a freak of nature or something. I used to be on crew (rowing), and my legs and arms definitely got to an annoying size. My back, stomach, and chest area stayed flat, but strong..but everything else seemed to balloon (even if it was a lot of muscle, just under some fat.) Right now I am 140 lb. 5'8, 19 years old. I am usually around 130-133, but holidays and finals got the best of me. I expect to easily loose those 7-10 lb. from being back to my city-life (living in Atlanta). So here's the actual question. Is p90x something I want to follow? Should I try variations? If so, what kind? I'm pretty knowledgeable about fitness and nutrition..much more so than the average person. I understand why p90x works, but that's why I'm so interested. Just..keep in mind..weight loss over muscle mass is the goal.. *frustrated* |

There are variations of P90X, try the lean version. I did not know that there were versions so I was getting ready to do the "classic" version. I am going to start it Feb 1. You can google P90X lean and you can see the exercises...
hope that this helps! |

The lean seems to focus more on cardio than resistance training. Also, I believe you can do more reps with smaller weight to get less 'buff.'

I suggest doing classic. You can always stay at a medium weight if you feel you are getting "too big", but as you say, it might have been an extra layer of fat that created that look. As a former athlete, you'll do fine with the classic program.

You're not going to get bulky. Don't worry about it. Women will not get bulky doing P90X, or doing any type of weight program in general. The genetic material just isn't there. Watch the videos - does Dreya look bulky? Does Pam, or Maraine, or any of the other women? None of them are bulky - just very very fit.
