P90X Round Two - Phase 4 Mass-Building

After doing one round of P90X Classic and having good results in losing some fat and gaining some muscle I found I am a Hardgainer. I am happy with my results but I was hoping on getting bigger and more ripped so I am going to mix things up a little and do more of a mass-building routine.

Mass-Building Routine:

Chest & Back --> ARX
Shoulders & Arms
Legs & Back --> ARX
Chest, Shoulders & Triceps
Yoga X
Back & Biceps --> ARX
Rest or Stretch

I will do this for three weeks and then do a normal rest week. I will see how this works for this first three weeks and see if my body changes and if my body can take it. I will be eating alot more and being sure to get adequate sleep. I may throw in some cardio here and there...I will just play it by ear and see what happens. I will never know if I don't try it right.

Great results! And the numbers you posted, impressive.

Good luck with your new routine, looks rough, but if it works, it'll be worth the hard work.

Round Two Mass Building

Day 1 - Chest & Back --> ARX

Here we go again...one of my favorite workouts from the first round because it's all the basic good stuff of pushing and pulling.

Increased all my reps of pull-ups and push-ups by at least three to five reps. Great pump again.

Interesting note was that I did this workout just before lunch thinking I left enough time from my last snack before my workout. But I almost brought up my breakfast a couple times. I always workout first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach and always feel good with lots of energy.

ARX - felt good to do this one again. I didn't feel as strong but did all the reps with good form.

Day 2 - Shoulders & Arms

Felt a little stiff from day before but was able to bring it hard. Shoulders still tender from last weeks yoga but everything else felt great.

So far so good on the Mass-Building Routine

It looks like a plan designed for success. For as hard as you work. I am sure you are going to get great results. I really want to put some mass back on but I am addicted to cardio. Have you put any thought in maybe using a weighted vest during Chest and Back? I have been debating on it for a little while. I am sure it would really have a positive effect during that workout.

It's great to see that Yoga has found a spot between some of that IRON! See everybody Yoga has a way of becoming an asset.

Remind me again Six. What did you think of Yoga During your first 2 weeks?

Keep it up You are an inspiration to us all.

Hey Rip

Thanks for your words of encouragement on the Mass-Building program...it means alot coming from you. Like I said before will see how it goes...

That's funny that you talk about the weighted vest because I thought about one today(like cost and were to find one). It would be great to bring more intensity for the pullups and pushups. If it's not too much $$$ I will get one.

Yoga I feel is a huge part of any fitness program and it has greatly impacted my success and many others. I loved Yoga X right from the first time I did it and I still look forward to it everytime. Therefore I will keep doing it here for the flexibility and the sense uplifting it gives me each time.

Oh Yea, Ken Congrates on becoming a Moderator of this fine forum. You to Veerukka. It's because of people like you that greatness happens and continues to happen. Thanks

Thanks SixLug. I have Ken to thank though, he "nominated" me. Thanks Ken! It's great that some of us are staying committed to continuing into another round.

Round Two - Phase 4 Mass Building

Day 3 - Legs & Back --> ARX

Finally pick-up a neoprene knee brace sleeve to help with my patella tendonitis and it worked really well. Was able to go deep in all leg moves and definetly felt stronger by using heavier weights.
Also did 123 unassisted pull-ups which was pretty much the same as last time. It's nice not placing a chair in front of me for the whole workout.

ARX - felt alot stronger than last time...finished with 60 weighted M.Twists

Day 4 - Chest, Shoulders & Triceps

Good workout...this one doesn't seem as intense as the other ones. But still was able to Bring It.

I have been trying to get in about 3000 calories which is up from about 2300. It's tough sometimes to eat all that extra food especially the 6 egg whites in the morning but I need to feed those muscles if I want to get bigger. I have noticed a small gain in weight from 175 to 177...is it fat or muscle will wait and see.

The rule has always been, if you want to get bigger, heavier weight, fewer reps, less cardio, more fuel..

After having gotten really sick after just starting round 2 and letting my sore shoulders heal I am back into P90X again.

Did an easy Chest & Back w/ ARX this morning and it felt good. I was almost going to rest another week but I saw the P90X infomercial last night and it inspired me to start this week instead.

It's also good seeing a bunch of new people here and also the graduates still going strong. Very inspiring...keep it up everybody.

Now it's time to `Bring It' harder than ever.

Still going strong with a new P90X Way of Life after completing my first round in January.

Doing the resistance workouts in the same phase pattern as in my first round but on cardio days I have been riding the road bike on a stationary trainer to get ready for road racing season here.

Things are going very good just got to work around some nagging injuries but just got to keep pushing play and hitting the bike to the best ability that I can.

With my wife ready to give birth here in the next couple of days with are second child, things will change (for the good) but I will still try to find time for working out in the early mornings...we will see.

My wife is also excited to start P90X in the next couple of months to help her get back to where she was before the baby and beyond. It'll be fun to workout with her again.

Round Three for SixLug
Round One for Mrs. SixLug

I have started my third round on Monday April 06, 2009 and my wife has joined me for the ride thru X-Land.

After giving birth to are second son on March 2nd she's ready to commit and be hotter than ever for her sister's wedding at the end of June. I am so excited to workout with her and coach her thru P90X.

My Second Round wasn't by the book. I tried a mass building program for a couple weeks until I really hurt my shoulder. So rested that for a week and went back to the regular classic program mixing in P90X+ and some cycling on most of the cardio days. Diet was OK didn't really gain or lose fat but still have a bit to lose around the midsection.

So with my third round and my wife's first we are doing the Classic and the diet will be clean, already I feel better on the Fat-Shredder just like I did in the first round.

Day 1 - Chest & Back ARX

We did the first round of Chest & Back together but I didn't want her to push it too hard on the first day so we stopped after the first go thru and we skipped ahead to ARX. She did what she could and she did great for just having a baby and not really working out for over a year. I was so proud of her. I finished up the second half of C&B after she cooled down.

Day 2 - Cardio X

We did Cardio X instead of Plyo because I felt Plyo was too intense on the joints for her to start off with. (plyo injured my knee the very first time I did it and it still bother's me) Cardio X was awesome and I haven't done it in a while and it was good mix of everything to get her introduced to the other type of workouts. Good sweat for me.

`RIP IT UP' everybody and thanks for looking

Day 3 - Mental Rest Day

The wife had a rough day and we decided to rest. It's her first week so I had to give her a break.

Day 4 - Shoulders & Arms ARX

Both brought it hard and she did every move. Arx was good for me...finished off with 5lbs M.Twists. She did what she could which was awesome

Day 5 - YogaX

Shortened version when baby just needed us.

Day 6 - Legs & Back ARX

Good Workout for both of us. She did 80 assisted pull-ups and I ripped out 100 unassisted which is close to my best of 126. ARX...she is starting to love it...I think.

Day 7 - Kenpo X

I did Interval X Plus in the morning and she did Kenpo with her sister in the afternoon. It just worked out that way which was fine by me because I love Interval X Plus.

Day 8 - Chest & Back ARX

She did both rounds with a few modifications here and there. I increased all pull-ups and most pushups. 40 standard right out of the gate. ARX was completed...she's getting stronger.

Re:SixLug Daily Log 11 Months ago Karma: 0
I am now on Day 15 and everything is going great. My wife has had to take few more rest days here and there (life gets in the way sometimes)but I have pretty much stayed on track.

When she doesn't workout with me I will usually mix things up with a P90X Plus workout like Upper Body Plus & Abs/Core Plus or Interval X Plus.

I have thrown in some doubles with getting in a bike ride in the mornings every other day...depending on how I feel.

We are both eating clean and still on a fat shredder phase and we have both seen results. I have lost another 5lbs and my wife is wearing her fitted jeans she wore before she got pregnant...she is doing what she can and seeing results.
