Week 1 is by far the hardest week. Don't get discouraged! By week three the soreness will be almost entirely gone. Keep pushing PLAY!!

Day 8 is in the books!

Chest/Back is by far the workout I have the most work to do on. It's so embarassing toward the end when they are still doing 30 diamond push-ups and I'm struggling to push out 5. Plyo was intense but I love it, I'm really looking forward to it tomorrow. As long as I continue to progress everywhere else, I'm sure chest/back will come with time and diligence.

Keep at it everyone!

well after one week I weighed in when I first got up and I was at 285.4 that's 5lbs! I thought it was great. I had breakfast then weighed myself again about two hours later and I was down to 284.4! Is there a best time to weigh in?

I think it is best to weigh in at the same time. This will keep the fluctuations down as your body cycles through water weight and such during the day. Awesome results by the way!!!!!!

Oof, day 8 in the books, Chest/Back. Under eating? NOT SO MUCH.

man oh man. I cannot stress how important it is to get your necessary calories/carbs.

I'm pretty active in my own diet, as I dont follow the p90x diet at all. in fact, I think it's absurd how many calories they suggest to eat. I try hard to be around 1300-1500 calories a day, which is as much as 50% less than what p90x suggests for others.

Having said that, today I dropped the ball hard. I was super busy at work, didn't have time for breakfast OR snacks, and only had a quick lunch and a piece of string cheese. Didn't even get 1000 calories by the time I pressed play. I knew I would be in for a tough one, but I had NO ENERGY for pull ups. I couldn't even do 1 unassisted pull up when they were doing 25 and 30.

I ended up modifying the pull ups with something similar to the "chair assisted" (i have the "perfect pull up" so i can just detach the bar and lean back and do em that way) so i was still able to get 20 or 30 in, but still.

I was able to do more push ups than I did in week 1, but I was hurtin.

I've also outgrown my only set of dumbbells so i'm doing 20 and 25 reps which isn't helping with bulking up at all. Oh well, I guess i'm "bringing it" everywhere but in the wallet.

Had I eaten properly today, I have a feeling I would've killed it. Chest/Arm exercises are my main strong point and I can usually kill em. I can do back exercises fine too, but aint that good at pull ups. Practice makes perfectly sore muscles

the moral: eat your calories and stick with it.

also, I did Ab Ripper and I'm ready to drive to Tony Horton's house and punch him right in the brain stem after watching him hammer out 50 mason twists and I keep falling over at 10. Not only am I falling over because I'm ready to vomit, but because i can't keep my balance. I see that girl holding her legs PERFECTLY straight in the air as I tilt sideways and hit my temple on my coffee table.

I'm making steady progress in the Ripper X, but by the time Mason Twists come, I just don't have the core strength, or balance, or where-with-all like that chick does.

What can I say? I'm a hater.

also, I wanted to chime in on the best time to weigh yourself.

I find it's best to weigh yourself right after you get up, AND goto the bathroom, before you eat. In theory, THAT is your true weight. I also weigh myself after my shower, because that's when I first took my weight and I just like to be consistent.

I cannot stress how important it is to go to the bathroom. Urine/Water can easily add 2 lbs (1 pint of water weighs 1 lb) and waste can easily add another pound. 2 lbs if you're not following your diet.

You can see how easy it is to hop on the scale and see a number that's 4 lbs over your actual weight, and if you happen to weigh yourself the day before, AFTER going to the bathroom, it would appear you've gained 2 lbs, when in fact, YOU'VE LOST 2 lbs.

I dont even look at my scale after the morning, because i know my weight wont be close

Just did plyo week 2 and am pretty disappointed with my performance. I don't quite know what happened, but I was out of gas after 20 minutes. I tried to stick with it and do what I could, but overall it was a slack fest. Lots of standing around breathing heavy. Maybe because I did it on a completely empty stomach? Maybe just because it's a hard workout for me? Week 1 plyo was tough, but I think I was doing better than today.

What do you guys think? How are you guys scheduling the workouts in your day? I think doing them early in the morning works best for me schedule wise, but I wonder if not having any food energy in me is hurting how well I can do.

It could be due to the empty stomach, but you could just be having an off day. We're putting in alot of energy very consistently and can't expect consistent results. Our body has to go through peaks, valleys and the inevitable wall, so i wouldn't worry too much about it.

One tip that I can suggest with all my heart and swear by, is eating a half a banana about 20 min before I start. If i haven't eaten, and i'm worried that I'll crash (which i do ALOT if i haven't eaten in the past 4 hours) a half a banana is A LIFE SAVER. I wait 20 min, because it takes at least 10 for the banana to feel like it helped and another 10 for it feel like it's gone, therefore I'm not sluggish and pukey. I only do a half a banana because it seems to do the trick. I'm a little worried a whole banana would stuff me up too much.

Trust me, a banana will keep you going, plyo, running or just working out in general, I swear by it.

if i dont have a banana, I try for another piece of fruit, or even a fruit smoothie of sorts, with a dash of my creatine powder. That also helps, but doesn't seem to really do what a banana does. Not sure why

Because of work and kids I don't usually get to work out until 7-8pm. I usually eat around 6 so I usually have something in my stomach. So far this has worked out well. Plyo went well last night. Diet went really well yesterday. Really hungry as we speak though and eating an apple.

Keep it up everyone

Alright, arms went much better today. Did that on an empty stomach also and was only running out of gas half way through my 200 crunches (I replaced ab ripper x with crunches since I'm really not in good enough shape to do the crazy stuff in that DVD yet).

I am kind of stressing about Yoga since I have a busy day tomorrow and my only option is to wake up mad early and try and do it. I was thinking about maybe doing it tonight instead.

What do you guys think about cramming 2 workouts into one day when you know you are going to be busy the next? If it seems like a bad idea, I will just try and grind it out in the AM. I'm a little leary of basically doing 2 today and taking tomorrow off...seems like maybe not the goal to get 2 days of "rest" in a week.

Personally, I hate the idea of doing 2 workouts in one day. Especially yoga, although Yoga is probably the only one you can safely get away with, w/o over training. IMO, if you're talking about getting up 2 hours early, I'd say skip it, try to squeeze it in in the PM, and if you can't, then just replace your day off w/ yoga, or even just push the whole week back one day, and skip your day off and roll right into next week.

If you got the energy tonight, go head and do yoga and take a break tomorrow, and do cardio x on sunday. Something like that. It's not a science, it's an art. You're not going to effect that much, if you keep bringing it daily with an extra day off sprinkled in now and again.

Ok, yesterday was Plyo for me. But due to severely under eating on monday (i think anyway) I became sick and had a horrible sore throat, post nasal drip, runny nose, and severe migraine.

what does that mean?

Nothing, cuz I sucked it up and plowed through plyo and had an incredible workout session that was further intensified by being somewhat ill. All the pain except for the sore throat faded during the workout, and came back w/ a vengeance afterward but I dont care. I owned plyo and felt great for plowing through it.

On a side note, I think the "rock star jumps" are the dumbest exercise ever invented. I'm to the point of boycotting the move because it's so ridiculously stupid. Next time I do plyo, I'm going to spend that time punching myself because I feel i'd get a better workout and feel LESS stupid than doing those retarded jumps. Rock Star Jumps. Whatever.

Tonight is S&A and i'm looking forward to it. Arm exercises and particularly biceps are my favorite and my body responds very well to them very fast. Also, my biceps get massive pump while i'm working out so i feel and look way bigger than i really am, and it's motivating.

On another side note, my wife is going out of town, so life is good tonight. Work out arms, empty house....maybe some extra curricular one handed arm exercises are in the cards eh? nice.

Hi people I also started the same week and i'd love to join your forum.
I'm from England and kinda of stumbled across p90x just by accident.
Found some sessions hughly frustrating especially yoga (my balance sucks)my chin ups are also pretty embrassing as i need to use a chair and feel as if i'm cheating. I did however order some resistance bands from ebay yesterday, hopefully i won't tick myself off and want to strangle Tony H when he has a leisurely chat whilst banging out 20/30 chin-ups.
Found getting my head around the nutrition plan also very difficult at the beginning but my wife has been very supportive and cooked the majority of my food the right way so all i've got to do is eat.
I am really pleased with results when i started i weighed 201 and i'm now down to 192 i've also had good comments from my wife and work colleagues so i'm over the moon.
I'm off to bed now as its 23:00 and i need my sleep as its YOGA tommorrow.....JOY!
ps i'm sure it will really help me to read and chat to people going through excatly the same as me. Good Luck... Keep the pump....Feel the burn!

Welcome Tommo

I think I am just going to try and suck it up and get up as early as possible and suffer through as much of the yoga as I can. Last week I made it through about 45 minutes. Hopefully tomorrow I can do a bit more (obviously halfway doing most of the positions since I am in no shape to get there yet).

Wow tommo! 9lbs in just over a week is insane! Dnbrdy i'm glad you chose to get up a little earlier to get it done. I slept in the last couple days so I couldn't get them done before work and have had to do them before I go to bed. I'll be doing my workout again this evening but i'm going to have to go back to mornings because I feel so pumped throughout the day that way.

Re:Log for those of us starting on 6/29/09 8 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 0
I haven't been keeping up with my documentation as well as I should, but rest assured, I haven't missed a workout yet!

One thing I've found about this routine is that it's very addicting. You know you're in it for the long haul. Like today...I woke up and felt miserable. I came back from class and my head was throbbing. I caved and got some taco bell. I took a nap right after. When I woke up, I was groggy and felt like crap, but my headache was gone. My first instinct was to skip the workout...but something wouldn't let me do it! I got up and did my best. It wasn't the best workout in the world, but I survived it and that's what counts.

While I continue to work on my weaknesses (eating garbage at times), it's nice to know that I won't crash & burn. I took what could've been a major setback and made it a wash. And in the long haul, that's critical to success.

I'm going to give Yoga a real chance tomorrow, something I didn't do last week.

It's on to day 11 and I'm already noticing my gut shrinking and arms & legs starting rip up!

BRING IT!

Taco Bell sounds good! Could go for like a grilled stuffed burrito right now

Not looking forward to Yoga, but going to try and give it another fair chance.

Keep it up everyone! We are doing well...so far.

Hi I am on my second round of P90X and trust me I hate Yoga as much as you do. However I didn’t skip even one yoga workout. After few weeks it goes much faster, there is not that many positions after all just feels like it. I switch my routine to start on Thursdays so yoga is on Sunday that gives me a bit more time in a day to accommodate this beautiful routine. So keep pushing play for this workout and soon you will fly thru it. You not going to love it but at least it is not going to bother you as right now.

Okay, Day 11 down. Yoga X with an ARX make up session, since I had to bail a tad early yesterday to pick up a friend. I really dont know why I went to pick him up, because, well I hate him. Dont get me wrong, he's a great friend. But he's also the type of friend...well, let me re-hash the phone conversations for you. Lets call the friend...um...I'll play it by ear.

7pm
Me: suuuuup. We're on for tonight right? We're seeing Public Enemies right?

Douchezilla: yup. When are you picking me up?

Me: I have to work out and shower, so maybe 2 hrs?

Sausage jockey: 2 hours? Work out? You're weak. And fat. F you. Pick me up now.

Me: Um...how about suckle? I'll call you when i'm done.

Turd Burgler: You're stupid. Ok

*click*

31 minutes later
*ring*

Me: *pant pant* WHAT?

Hemorrhoid: Are you coming or what?

Me: I said 2 hrs,

Asstronaut: That was like an hour and 40 minutes ago.

Me: It was like 20 minutes ago.

Big Ben: So how long?

Me: Hey, does this sound like someone hanging up on you?

*click*

27 minutes later
*ring*
*sigh*

Me: WHAT?

Jack hole: What are you wearing?

Me: Your mom brought me some role playing stuff.

Son of hot mom: She still owes me a damn birthday present. Hey, I had to pay my lawyer today, so you have to pay for my movie ticket. And my power bill.

Me: what do you want?

The Suck: How much longer?

Me: I STILL have to do my ab routine, so...

The Tick: I hope you drop a weight on your face. And your dog eats your carcass.

Me: *sigh* FINE, i'm leaving now.

BFF: I love you.

Me: Die.

There you have it. Proof that true friendship is obtainable, if you just know how to speak to people.

Anyway, I had to skip ARX and thus, tackle it today. But before the mighty ARX, i had Yoga, which I was actually looking foward to.

I was able to really stick with it, and did alot of the poses perfectly, with only a few painful moments, and was even able to do the reachy-under-thigh-around-back-thingy on one side. Jeah boyeee, I was excited about that.

Then I came to the balance poses. I'm about as graceful as an elephant. On roller blades. In mud. But I stuck with it, and wasn't doing horribly embarrassing.
(Now that I think about it, I was doing yoga in my underwear, so I guess the whole thing would probably be categorized as "horribly embarrassing" Anyway...Then came "crane" or as I like to now call it: "rug burn" Maybe if I really stick with it, next week, I can call it "chipped tooth" or better yet, "short term memory loss".

As I pushed through the pain of exposed muscle on my face, I was able to move on to..hell I dont even remember now. Shoulder stance? Or plough to shoulder stance? Or something that has nothing to do with your feet being straight up in the air, right up until the point they start to fall over your head and you learn exactly what your own navel tastes like.
In this house though, we've decided to call it "the part where we turn Yoga X off"
My wife has lovingly taught my children the unofficial title of "the one daddy was doing when he fell into the window and ripped the mini blinds off the wall".

My wife. So supportive...
If it was more painful when it killed, I would've went and bought some rat poison.

The first part of Yoga X is undeniably beneficial to the human body. I can feel it working immediately. I have NEVER been a believer in Yoga. Not that I didn't know it worked you out good or anything. I just didn't think it was any better than some good stretching and a quick cardio thing. The first 40 min of Yoga changed my mind completely, and I genuinely feel like the Warrior stances and blah blah, really will help to improve your fitness as well as your mind AND soul.
But "Rug Burn"? Sticking your feet up in the air so you look like a missle with no explosives? COME ON.

I'm not saying they're not good yoga poses. I'm saying, I'M NOT TAKING YOGA! I don't need Tony Horton to cram in as many yoga poses as a DVD Will hold. I ONLY need the poses that will benefit my body AS I TRAIN in p90x and beyond. If I like Yoga X and decide I want to further my Yoga knowledge, and want to learn how to transition from "rug burn" to "face plant into my HDTV" and from there into "shattered salt water aquarium" I'll goto a Yoga class in the prissy part of my town.

Whatever. dont judge me. I know yoga is one of the best things a person can do for themselves. I also know p90x is one of the best thinds a person can do for themselves. I ALSO know there's a blending of THOSE lines and the two may coincide TO SOME DEGREE. But to force feed me anything but overpriced protein bars and "super duper recovery drink to the x degree" is pushing it.

I have every "One on One with Yogy Yogarton" DVD, but haven't even looked at them yet, as I want to fully complete p90x first. I hear "Fountain of Youth Yoga" is much better, more to the point and quicker than Yoga X, but i'm going to stick with attempting Yoga X every week because...well, it gives me good writing material. And lets be honest. that's truly what we want here, right?

So maybe next week, I'll get a little deeper into yoga x, and if we're really lucky, I'll end up swallowing a few teeth. Or digesting part of my own stomach. Or *crosses fingers* sitting on my own face!

On a side note, I just got done telling my wife that the key to lifting heavy items is "to put it all in your groin and your back. Take your legs totally out of the equation. Lift with your lower back in a jerking, twisting motion."
