BTW - With fear of sounding like a woman, I was able to fit into a pair of jeans that have been hanging in my closet for 1.5 years. Felt pretty good to get them buttoned.

nah, that doesn't make you sound like a woman. what makes you sound like a woman is the fact that those jeans had rhinestone hearts on the back pockets...:)

You better watch out, I've been doing Kenpo.

Core is awesome, but it definitely takes some getting used to. It's amazing...you don't do any pull ups but you feel burned in your shoulders and lats afterward. You don't do any plyo but your legs are aching afterward. There isn't really a true cardio focus but I'm panting like a dog afterward.

Maybe someday I'll be able to do the Dreya roll...when I get rid of my fat roll and two bad knees! What a hot dog!!!

I remember doing something along the line of superman/banana when I played football in high school (a long time ago) and I wondered what it did. It improves agility and improves conditioning. Just good, old fashioned stuff!!

Kevin

P.S.: Kenpo will make your jeans look good!!

10/3/08
Yoga

About 40 minutes into this one I remembered how much I dislike it. I'm a lot better at all the downward and upward dog, but it's just boring to me. I don't feel like I bring it because it's not a bring it workout...
There are still several moves I can't do.
I can get my elbow outside my leg on some of the twisting poses. Before now my lack of flexibility and my stomach would get in the way...
Still worked up a good sweat, but Yoga is a chore for me.

The Dreya roll is the mother of all moves.... I have no chance of getting up enough momentum to stand back up.

Supposed to be a rest/stretch day today so I went for a 45 minute walk with my wife. I don't sweat as much as I used to when I first started. 2 reasons - #1 there is no question I'm in better shape... #2 it's fall and the temperature and humidity are down.
Tomorrow is supposed to be Kenpo but I left the tapes at school so I'm going to do Plyo because it's the one I have here at the house.

Getting back in the groove... looking forward to Phase 3.

Today - Core Synergistics

Very good workout today. I like the Core workout other than the ending... I can't do a Dreya Roll and I hate Table because it hurts my wrists. Other than that this workout is solid. Lots of sweat from the plank run (no chataranga run for me yet, maybe days 90-180)
Good stuff.

Yesterday was supposed to be YOGA, but we all (me, Scott, and Ryan) hate YOGA. We'd already done it once this week and decided to get in a traditional lift using chest, triceps and shoulders instead - bench press, military, skull crushers, incline. I'm definitely stronger than I was when I started P90X.
Today is Kenpo. Looking forward to the sweat.

Kenpo was a good sweat again. I enjoy the punches and kicks. I also find that my heart rate goes up during the "breaks" when we do jumping jacks and run in place.
The blocks aren't my favorite, but I can do star blocks now without feeling totally uncoordinated.

Today is the start of Phase 3. Looking forward to that.

Phase 3 Day 1
Chest and Back
We BROUGHT IT today! It was just me and Scott today but we pushed each other.
Started the workout with 45 standard push-ups. 30 short break and 15 more. The first week I think I did 12 and died. I really wish I'd written it down in the log that first week but I didn't.
Pull ups today I did with only one foot in the chair during the first round. The 2nd round I put 2 feet back in the chair.
There is no doubt that I have gotten a LOT stronger than I was when I started.
Ab Ripper X today also. We made it through but we were spent from the workout. I think my abs were already partially worked out because of the push ups. Solid as always.

Glad to be back in the groove.

Phase 3 Day 2
We switched the days again and did Arms and Shoulders today. My arms were still feeling yesterday's workout, but it's good to do the workouts at the gym where we have use of the dumbbells.
Good workout. We got through it and moved some pretty good weight, but it wasn't like yesterday. Biceps definitely got a good pump.

Tomorrow will be Plyo.

Abs are sore today - I guess that week off made ab-ripper take a toll.
Hurts so good.

Phase 3 day 3
UK v/s South Carolina today. Huge tailgate put on by one of our football coaches. I parked 2 miles away so I could get in a good walk there and back. I was able to stick with the low carb dite with all the available meat. No workout - other than the walk.

Phase 3 day 4
Sunday. After church my family and I decided to go on a hike. Raven's Run Nature Sanctuary in Lexington has 10 miles of trails. My wife, 8 year old daughter and 2 year old son hiked about 4 miles. I carried my son about half of the trip so I think the legs got a good workout. Family exercise isn't something that we do often enough so that won over staying home just to do an X

Back to X tomorrow.

Friday morning the scale said 305.5. It's headed in the right direction.

Phase 3 day 5 - Legs and Back

I sweated more today than I ever have. I mean the shirt was soaked, the shorts were soaked, there were several puddles where I dripped on the floor.
I did my first real pull up today. First set I jumped up and pulled my chin over the bar, lowered and pulled back up. It took about all I had (I'm still at 305.5 lbs) but I got it. After a couple of excited yells I got back on the bar and did 10 more with my feet in the chair. It was a good feeling.
Legs burned early and often today for some reason... maybe all the walking and hiking this weekend???

Ab Ripper X - I was spent when we started it but it was good as always. Didn't get 25 reps on everything but I felt it just the same.

Re:Daily Log for Big Papa 1 Month, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 1
Thanks V. It was a pretty big deal for me. I was trying to remember back to the last time I did a pull-up. From what I can remember it was 17 years ago when I was a college freshman. Now I haven't tried many since then before finding P90X... but it was very satisfying to get one unassisted.

Phase 3 Day 6
Supposed to be Kenpo today but Scott and I decided to amp it up a bit. We went to the local gym and did 10 minutes of stairclimber, 10 minutes on the bike and 10 minutes on the treadmill. We finished up with 10 minutes in the sauna. My glutes were already sore from the leg workout yesterday. Throwing this workout in there added to that. This was a workout Scott did in his college basketball training so it was solid.

Catching up with my posts.
Phase 3 Day 7 - Stretch X or Rest - we rested

Phase 3 Day 8 - Chest and Back. Tough workout. I started a little slow, but got stronger as the day went on. By the time we did incline push ups in the 2nd round I was feeling a great pump and repped out 15 with no break. That's just incredible remembering back to how awful I did those the first time. Diamond push ups are still a beast, but I can do 10 and then 5 more after a short break. Pull ups keep getting better and better. I'm learning how to use the chair and still get a great pull rather than pushing so hard with my legs.
AB RIPPER X - solid as always. One of these days I'll get all 25 on every exercise. Scott puked he pushed so hard today. Awesome.

Phase 3 Day 9 - Friday
We were off school today so I just played with my kids

Phase 3 Day 10 - Saturday
Went for a 2 hour walk with my wife and 2 year old while my daughter had dance class. Solid.

Phase 3 Day 11 - Sunday
Went for a family hike with wife, 2 kids, and the brother in law who just lost his wife. Also with her sister and child. We went to Shakertown Village just east of Lexington and hiked about 4 total miles down to the KY river. Carried my 2 year old son at least half of the way. (he weighs about 35 lbs.)
Also played 2 hours of basketball tonight against Georgetown College's junior varsity team. That's my favorite way of all to exercise. Whipping up on some 20 year olds keeps me young.

Also today........ in another belt loop (that's 3 holes total!!!) and weighed in at 304. it won't be long until I'm in the 200's. That will be some serious satisfaction.

Phase 3 Day 12
Legs and Back
Let me first say that I hate working out on my own. It was another day off for our school system. I pushed play when our team finished practicing but Scott and Ryan were both heading out early.
I got through the workout and it was a good one, but not nearly as fun as when we're all there pushing each other.
I'm still getting better at pull ups. Using both feet in the chair and doing more reps and more good reps where I go all the way to arms straight.
Good sweat today too.
