Angie's P90X Journey Start Date May 25th 9 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 1
Hey! My first day will be tomorrow.

I am not in very good shape and do try to keep fit but life happens. I am a 33 year old stay at home mother of 4 children. I quit smoking 2 months ago and have put on some weight. In the last month I have been watching my calorie intake and working out 3 times a week.

I am doing this to tone up and kick my husbands butt in a 4.5 mile Mud Run happening in September.

I took my fit test today and was surprised at how I did compared to my husband. I passed so thats good.

My results are probably laughable but I will post them any way

Pull Ups 1
Verticle Leap 12.5in
Push-up 20
Toe Touch 6.5in
Wall Squat 2 min
Bicep Curl 16 rep 15#
In & Out 28

I really thought I might collapse after my first P90X workout. LOL Chest and Back was hard. The dive-Bomber Push ups and the Decline Push-ups kicked my tail. I did all the pull ups with a chair. The Ab Ripper X was also one mean workout. I didn't do 25 reps. I hope to get stronger in the next couple of weeks. My arms still feel like noodles.

I am proud of my food intake:

Breakfast
2 Egg White Egg Beaters Servings 50 cal
2 Butterball Turkey Bacon pieces 50 cal
2oz Serving of Skim Mozz Chesse 50 cal
1 Whole Wheat Bun 100 cal

Snack
1/2 Serving of Light Muscle Milk 100 cal
1 cup Fat Free Skim Milk 80 cal
3oz Chicken Breast 100 cal

Lunch
3 oz Chicken Breast 100 cal
2 Cups Baby Spinach 25 cal
1 Light Fruit Cup 50 cal
1 TBS Fat Free Catalina 25 cal

Snack
3 oz Chicken Breast 100 cal
3 oz baby Carrots 35 cal

I plan to eat

Dinner
3oz Chicken Breast 100 cal
2 oz Skim Mozz 50 cal
2 Cups Baby Spinach 25 cal
1 TBS Fat Free Catalina 25 cal

1065 Total

Plyometrics is not joke! My hubby and I were able to work out together today. Big motivation. I had about 1300 calories today. I forgot to eat one of my snacks. All that protein makes it hard to be hungry.

Day 3

Thank you ckmj23!

Today was a surprise. I didn't want to body hurt my body as bad this time compared to chest and back. I used 5 and 10 pound weights. Thought I taking it easy but after the workout my arms were on FIRE again. I am having a hard time bending and straightening my arms. I LOVE IT! lol

Yesterday was really hard to stick to the diet. I stuck to it but man, those strawberry shortcakes looked so YUMMY. With 4 kiddos, it's so hard not to be put in those situations.

Breakfast
3 oz New York strip 175
Pears 60

Snack
Protein Drink 1/2 portion 100
Fat Free Milk 80

Lunch
3oz New York Strip 175
Celery/Peanut Butter 1/2 TBS 100
Carrots 35
6 oz V8 50

Snack
Protein Bar 200

Dinner
Salmon Pouch 90
Miracle Whip Light TBS 20
Pineapple Fruit 60

Snack
1/4 Serving Protein Shake 50
Fat Free Milk 40

Total Calories 1235

Stayed pretty full today. The diet isn't too hard to follow.

Angelina,

Already looking pretty fit there! Glad to hear you're able to stick to your diet. I find that much harder than the actual workouts.

Keep it up!

hey Angie welcome to the madness. I love that you eat steak for breakfast. I was just talking to my coach about the same thing. I don't eat eggs so that makes breakfast a challenge. And I used to make extra whatever I had for dinner and have it for breakfast and/or lunch.

GOOD LUCK!

Thank you mtz! Yes, I love to eat steak for breakfast. It's a treat. I know red meat isn't that great for you but at least it's not a bowl of ice cream. And i don't get hungry till my next snack

Day 4 YOGA X

I don't like saying this but, the first 30 minutes was really really annoying. Doing that dog thing over and over. Uggggg I have to admit this was my first Yoga experience. I wish they made this one 1 hour long. I am not as limber and I don't have the balance that they have on the video. I can't wait till I do!

I had another tempting moment today with food. I am a room mother for one of my daughters and had to throw an ice cream party today. I ended up being the ice cream scooper. I got ice cream on my hand and was tempted to lick it off. There was carmel, hot fudge, cherries, spinkles, marshmellows and strawberry syrup toppings. I had a few peanuts.

So far

Breakfast
Protein Bar 190
Fruit 50

Snack
Peanuts 80
Protein Bar 190

Lunch
1/2 bun whole wheat 50
3oz chicken breast 100
Light Miracle Whip 20
V8 50
Fruit 50

Later today
Snack
V8
Celery w/peanutbutter 50

Dinner
3oz Chicken Breast 100
1/2 Whole Wheat bun 50

before bed
Recovery Drink 1/2 serving 100

Total 1130

Awesome Congrats, keep it up. I'm not looking at scale until day 30 when I take pictures.

Ice cream day at school, Yikes sounds like all the kids getting loaded up on sugar and fat. Glad you got through it.

Hey Angie, my wife Michelle and I started P90X on Monday also. Along with our 14 year old son and 4 friends. We meet in my garage at 5am, DOEEEEEE! We switched days for Yogo and Kenpo, and our Sat will be at 8am. On Sun we'll try to figure out how to get Stretch X out to everyone through out the day or at least watch it once and everyone try to so as much without the dvd. I should be doing the Marine Corps Mud Run in Columbia this year again also. I have done it twice now. We'll see, maybe my boy Dalton will also, if not, I'll try to get a nice stacked team for it. Maybe you can talk Michelle into doing it. Anyway, good luck to you and your husband and we'll be in touch.

BRING IT!

Angie,

Good job!!

You might consider taking about 20 grams of Casein protein right before bed instead of the recovery drink formula. It's a slow digesting protein (which is what you want at night) and to slow it down even more take it with a tablespoon or 2 of flax seed oil. This will actually help you lose weight and keep your metabolism up. Your body will be working to digest this for a good 6 hours or so. Many weight loss books will say the same thing about this. Not trying to sound like I know more than what I actually do...I'd also try to time your meals/snacks to where your last meal or snack is at least 2 hours before you go to sleep and then take the Casein right before you lay down.

Angie,

The casein protein is good for night. But remember that casein protein is only 80% bioavailable, so you need to add 20% to your calculation of protein needs to compensate. Whey protein, while 100% bioavailable, does get processed and absorbed more quickly and may not give you the "full" feeling as long as the casein will.

Hope this helps...

Hey Jack! We must be doing the same Mud Run! I wish my 13 year old daughter would do the workout with us.

Sean thank you! I have muscle milk light. I think it has Casein protein in it. So just make one of those and add flax seed oil? I am learning something new everyday. Thanks again!

Thank you Kevin! OK let me see if I get this right.... When I count Casein protein towards my protein caluculations, eat a piece of ham, a bite of chicken or something protein because my body will only use 80% of this kind of protein?

Actually, it's just the casein substitute. So, if it comes from beef, poultry, or fish it's okay to count it as a "100%" for protein. If it comes in a can and it says "casein" on the outside, add 20% to the amount you'd take, so you'll take 120% of the recommended amount.

Hope it's clearer than mud...

If I were you I'd get ONLY casein protein. The other whey proteins and whey Isolate digests faster... so out of the 25 grams that Muscle Milk lite provides...that's not all slow digesting casein protein. Actually we don't know how much is Casein and how much is Whey.

Here's what I got...I'd get the Banana cream, it seems to have much less sodium. Since your only taking it at night then 4lbs will last you 58 days.
http://www.muscleandstrength.com/store/100-casein-protein.html

and if you are taking the recovery formula post workout after your intense workout days then putting about half a scoop of casein in it will enhance the recovery drink. Whey actually works better with Casein post workout for the recovery needs. But that's up to you and your budget.

But for bedtime protein you really want 100% casein and flaxseed oil.
