It IS expensive, so my advice is to substitute and omit where you can. Also, shop around and try to catch stuff on sale. I have found that nuts are cheaper at WalMart, as are certain vinegars and oils. Initially, what is going to cost you the most are the spices, oils and vinegars you will need, not to mention the low-fat versions of mayo and salad dressing. For the veggies, try to stay away from the grocery store if possible. Look for farmer's markets in your area and buy fruits and veggies local. It will be MUCH cheaper. In the spring, plant a garden if you are able to. Hubby and I plan on doing that to help offset some of the cost.
The internet is your friend in all this...look for what you can substitute for certain things. Like if you can't find arugula, iceberg lettuce will work. Some veggies are similar, so swap one that's a bit cheaper.
We just spent about $150-$175 for the week...not pretty, but next week should be cheaper since we already have a lot of stuff on hand.

DON'T buy everything on the list. I made that mistake... a lot of food ended up going bad. Buy only enough to eat for the week.

And for eggs, try eggbeaters. One tablespoon equals one egg white. Much better than throwing away all the yolks.

The soups are pretty good. I froze them in individual servings in freezer bags. The only one that didn't freeze too well was the vegetable one. But that one wasn't so great anyway. The others are good.

Buy all of your meat and cut it into individual servings, then freeze in serving size bags.

Don't make the cole slaw - the recipe makes a HUGE batch, and you'll have lots of cabbage left over. Just buy the kind at the store that comes in a bag/kit, and throw out the dressing that comes with it. Then make your own dressing from the recipe in the book.

Oh, the turkey burger recipe is GREAT! But you'll end up throwing out a lot of buttermilk, & without the buttermilk it isn't as good. So maybe make several batches & freeze.

The biggest problem I've had with the recipes is the amount of time it takes to prepare them. I'm constantly in the kitchen. No sooner do I finish cleaning up from dinner, it's time to cook lunch for the next day. Hubby has become a HUGE help (even if he can't separate an egg...lol) since he has seen just how much time I was spending in the kitchen. I have to get up in the morning and fix my turkey burgers. Has anyone made up a bunch and frozen it? I really don't want to waste a lot of buttermilk.
So far, none of the food is going to waste, I'm trying to use all that I can. The only recipe so far that I absolutely couldn't stomach was the shrimp stir fry. I love shrimp, I love stir fry, but the shrimp just gave the whole dish a fishy taste that I just couldn't get past. The chicken salad is awesome, the vegetable soup was good too. I've eaten everything so far and that stir fry is the only thing that will not be gracing my table again.
