Ok, so your weight hasn't changed but what about your bodyfat %age? It's quite possible that you've lost fat and added muscle at the ame time and that your overall mass is about the same because of it. That would be the best of both worlds!
If that's NOT the case then re-double your efforts on diet and "bringing it". There's nothing wrong with the programme.
And remember: "Much good work is lost for the lack of a little more."
Are you stronger, more flexible and fit cardiovascualar-wise than when you started? I bet the answer is a resounding yes. How can you be discouraged by all that?

Don't use the scale as a measurement of how well you're doing. I'm on week 10 and I've lost 2lbs and that was only in the past week. Instead look at your before pictures and compare to you now. You're only on week 7, you can't change your body overnight. A sensible diet combined with the exercise and you'll lose the weight once your body is done building muscle.

One thing you can do about your diet is log what you eat on one of the online calorie counters. I use http://www.caloriecount.about.com. Once you start putting everything in, you may discover something you're eating that you shouldn't. A lot of people on here do it everyday, I personally only do it every once and awhile just to check up on my diet.

Don't lose hope though and just remember, you're correcting years of neglect in a matter of months, not weeks or days. Oh and, keep hitting play

Re:getting discouraged --ready to give up 11 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 7
Have no fear, you ARE doing something. I'm on week 13 (last week!) and just went to the doctor this morning. I have now officially lost NO weight at all, I am the exact weight I was when I started. BUT, my clothes are looser, I'm more toned, what was saggy and baggy is getting firm, the cottage cheese is turning into mozarella, and I feel fantastic. I told my doctor what I was doing, and while she had never heard of P90x (she's a runner, not a weight lifter), she was impressed when I explained to her about muscle confusion. I told her that I'd like to be 20 lbs lighter by my next appt in 6 months, and she told me that as long as my clothes are fitting better and I'm toning up, not to worry about my weight, that I have put on some muscle.
It may take you longer thatn 90 days to get the body that you want, and that's ok. There is no law that says you have to be ripped in 90 days like the people on the informercial. Every body is different, we all have different circumstances and lives that dictate what we can do in terms of diet and exercise. For some, it's not feasible to follow a rigid diet, and that's ok. Continue eating clean and as healthy as possible, keep up with your workouts, and you WILL see results. It was Phase 3 before I really started seeing big changes, so have patience. It will come.

The easiest way to figure out whether you're getting results is to see how your clothes fit. Are your pants looser? If they are, then you have replaced muscle with fat. I gained 5lb during my 90 days, but shrank. You may have to let go of a particular number you were hoping for. I started at 140 and wanted to get into the 130's, but I've done 2 rounds, and I'm now at 144.5.

What about increase in strength? How about number of reps for pullups & pushups? These should have increased. You should be lifting more weight now than week 1. If you are not , you are not pushing yourself enough. Increase the weights and you will build more muscle which will help burn fat.

Re:getting discouraged --ready to give up 11 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
I am going on vacation in 2 weeks and that is the reason i started p90x in the first place was to look amazing on vacation. I am so proud of the fact that I am on weeks 7 and have only missed one workout the entire time so far! I am dedicated enough to get up at 6am even on the days that i work 12 hour shifts --to make sure i get my workouts in!!I guess I was just expecting better results by week 7 but i am not going to give up yet. =)I am going to work really hard these next 2 weeks before vacation and make sure that I am eating well/eating clean! at the end of the next 2 weeks i will be finished with phase 2 and I am going to take pics and compare them to week one so i really see the results. =) Thanks again for your encouragements. I know I need to really clean up my diet but throughout my p90x journey I have been in weddings/ parties that have really challenged me to eat well. I purchased a eat clean diet book and have been doing that diet for 4 days now and have lost 1 pound =) I am going to keep hitting PLAY! and BRING IT!

Just remember, you're already seeing results. Unfortunately your body doesn't do any drastic changes until around 6 weeks into a workout routine. Then it starts rearranging how it does things, builds muscle mass, burns more fat, etc. If you keep it up and stick with the diet you'll start to see more obvious results in the near future.

Oh yes, isn't it just fun when someone offers you a super deluxe chocolate angel food cake while you're on the P90X diet. I don't follow it strictly but I've avoided most sweets and fast food so I know how hard it is to keep to the diet.

Just keep strong and keep hitting play and you'll only see improvements.

oh man can I commiserate about being tempted by foods. my wife isn't participating with me in this, so when she has foods that I miss, it's tough. my only cheat so far is that I had a cookie over last weekend, haha. I've only been going for a week though. congrats on getting 7 weeks into the program!

you may not see the difference on the scale, just like many have already said. but I bet you feel better and are stronger now! did you take before pictures? if so, maybe it's time to take another set, and compare. I personally don't care what the measure of the force of gravity on my body is, if my body is working the way it is supposed to and I'm feeling and looking good!

Re:getting discouraged --ready to give up 11 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Rachk,

I know exactly how you feel. About a year ago, I quit P90X after my 7th week for precisely the same reason you're having doubts now. Despite working out 6 days a week and sticking to the diet pretty closely (definitely eating waaaaaay better than usual), my waist actually got BIGGER!!

Now I'm on week 3 and I'm having the same problem: I feel stronger, but my waist hasn't budged.

I'm about to go against what most people will tell you about P90X, so take it for what it's worth, and keep in mind several people will disagree with what I'm about to say below:

P90X is not designed for weightloss. P90X is for people who are already pretty fit and close to their ideal weight. They won't tell you this too loudly because they want to market to the biggest pool of customers, but it's in there if you look. Check out the P90X Nutrition Plan book, page iii ... it spells it out pretty clearly that the P90X eating plan is not designed for weight loss per se. It also eludes to the fact that the other BeachBody products advocate a calorie deficit in order to acheive weight loss.

The fact is, if you're main goal is to lose some inches around the middle, you're going to have to go on a calorie deficit.

Check out Boomer's before and after photos, and his answer to my question on this site: He acheived significant weight loss because he cut his calories significantly, then stepped them up gradually through the 90 days. http://www.weightloss-hq.biz/weight-loss-forum/p90x-before-and-after-pics/day-1-day-90-photos.html

Boomer's insight cleared up some questions for me. I plan to cut my calories for this first round of P90X, then if my waistline is close to where I want it, I'll do the 2nd round per the P90X guidelines to (hopefully) build some significant muscle mass.

Just don't quit. This is my second day and just reading the logs and whatnot it is all about commitment. I would have to agree with the poster before me. If you want to lose some weight cut down your intake by about 15%? I am not nutritionist that just seems more like common sense to me. I can't even come close to keeping up with the intake they want. If I did I fear I would quit halfway thru myself.

I've gone through a round of the Lean program and didn't lose any weight. I know I've gotten stronger and my clothes are a bit looser, but I need to pay more attention to the diet for Round 2. I definitely did not eat very clean. Also, I will be using dumbbells more for Round 2 as I used the bands mostly for Round 1. Hopefully this will make more of a difference. At the very least, I'll be able to track my gains in strengths better.

Don't give up. Getting stronger is always a good thing, even if you don't lose weight or inches.
