Am i eating enough?? 9 Months, 4 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Need a little advice on my eating habits.

Ive just started P90x, (day 9) and i'm not sure if my calorie defersit is too big.

I'm 185Lb, 21% Body fat and want to lose as much fat as possible in the first stage of the program.

On an average day i get through 1700 Cal, 190G Protein, 90 Carbs and 40 Fat. i eat every 3/4 hours without fail and drink more than enough water.

I've worked out my total calorie burn to be about 3250-3500. With a mixture of the DVD's and my hectic job.

Is this plan good enough or is cutting 2000 calories a day going to make my body hold on to the fat it already had?

Any advice would be really apreciated.

Thanks in advance

its generally a good idea to not cut more than 1000 off your daily need. but everyone is different.

personally, i'd get a little more calories if you can.

+1... cutting 2000 cals will make your body go into starvation mode. It will cause your body to try and hold on to the body fat. Btw, my body fat percentage dropped fastest when I upped my cals in phase 3.

I started at 24% BF. By the time I finished my first round of P90X I was down to 12%. I am on currently in phase 2 on my second round of P90X and I am down to 8.9%. Since I started my second round, though, I have been also training for a triathlon so that has helped to drop my BF to below 10%.

Wait, 190 grams of protein? That sounds just a little overkill. If you are taking in that much, I doubt your body is even close to taking in all of that. And un-used protein turns into fat and surprisingly poisonous. This website can help if you have doubts or something.

As far as calories go, never cut them off. It is exactly as Boomer and cocoimloco said.

I am having the same issue, I am getting around 1200-1300/day, and according to manual I should be at 2400. Former Vegetarian now eating meat, but still having trouble getting all the calories. Not hungry, but not tired either. Had headaches the first 3 days I started but feel great now. Maybe about 15lbs to lose, to get ripped but not overweight to look at me fully clothed.

If your not putting in the correct amount of calories, your body is going to think it will not get enough energy. Even though you know that your trying to loose weight. Your body only knows that it's being worked and only so much energy is coming in. So instead of burning it, it will try to store it in fat.

Coming from being a vegetarian, your body might be already be adjusted to it. Increase your calorie intake and for a little bit you might see a larger weight gain. But your body will adjust to it and you will be able to burn more fat and get more from your workouts.

ya I think I am just lacking in protein quantity. If I eat substantially more than I am I think my calories should be where they should be.

But I find it very hard to believe that our bodies would be going into starvation mode and store the fat. With the activity level of P90X, there is no way the body could physically store fat while you are working out this intensely(if you are bringin it). It will burn the fat then start to cannibalize the muscle. That is the only disadvantage I see to reduced calories. Just like blood pressure, hr, body temp, these are numbers that are generalized, they don't fit all of us.

Also, be careful of low carb diets... low carb diets are for sedentary people. Those doing intense workouts need carbs.
