Portion Approach help... 12 months ago #79351

Hi, I'm sorry, but I am very confused with a few things. I am on day 8 and am doing fat shredder lvl 2. What I have trouble understanding is portion sizes. Protein, for one example, is 100 calories a serving. Turkey bacon is 20 cal a slice, but the book says 2 slices under proteins. It would take 5 slices of the turkey bacon to obtain the full 100 calorie serving. Is this correct? I am sorry if this is a repeat thread, I am just so confused and getting discouraged. Thanks for any help!

It's hard to say. The guide is kind of confusing. I'd be inclined to have 100 calories worth of the stuff to get all my calories. With the fat content of turkey bacon being what it is, it may throw your ratios off by doing so. I generally opt for veggie sausage instead of breakfast meats because of fat content.

That was the main reason I just decided to make a spreadsheet to track all my intake. I had planned to do the portion plan before I started, but after looking at it, there seemed to be a few things that didn't really add up. I was more confused than anything. It's way easier to just track what your eating and keep an eye on the ratios.

Chris - read Paul P's blog on nutrition. Most of us don't use the nutrition guide, it's too confusing. It's much easier to figure out what you need to eat based on real numbers.
In phase 1 your ratios should be 50/30/20 then go to 40/40/20 for phases 2 and 3. You might need to up your calories in phase 2 or 3. |

The nutrionist that wrote the guide does not believe in tracking calories. Her portion plan is just to get you eating cleaner without a drastic change in your diet.
I followed the portion plan straight from the nutrion guide until about week six and lost about 14 pounds. It's intended to be easier than calorie counting and frankly it is (or was for me). So if you're following the guide, don't worry about calories or ratios. If not use myplate at livestrong.com. and keep ratios and calories tracked daily. |
