MARKET LIST Help 3 years ago #16995

So I am getting ready to start the P90X and I was looking through the nutrition market list. I notice that the list is for the entire month. I plan on making my food 1 week in advance per week on Sundays and not cooking the food until I eat it. What I need to know is how much to buy of what for each week. I would imagine that I buy it all at once my grocery bill would be like 1,000, there are 2 pages of the market list. I am overwhelmed at this point with the diet and figuring that out. Any help would be great. Thank you in advance.

What I do is on my first market trip I budget a bit more because I'm stocking up on essentials and staples that I won't have to buy every week. Things like olive oil, mustard, dry seasonings, pasta, rice, flour, salt etc. My first week also includes any perishables needed for the meals I'm specifically planning to cook that week (i.e. fruits, fresh veggies, fish etc). I do like to stock up on meats as well and vacuum seal them and stick portion sizes in my freezer. But I usually do this when there's a sale and I want to take advantage. Also frozen veggies are a great thing. I always keep broccoli, chopped onions and peppers, corn (during the winter) and a few other frozen items for a quick zap in the microwave.
I tend to buy juice when it's on sale as well since I don't drink much (about 8oz a day if that) and I buy bottled water in bulk. But here's how I do my weekend: By friday I've decided what 4-6 meals I'm going to cook on Sunday for the following week ( I always make enough to have left overs for lunch and nights when I don't have a planned meal). On Saturday I go shopping (farmer's markets for fresh veggies, fruits, fresh herbs and fish, regular market for any staples that need replenishing) On Sunday I cook a weeks worth of meals unless my husband is working then I don't cook one meal so that on a night when we're both home we can cook it together. By Sunday night my fridge is stocked with meals or items that can be mixed and matched, snacks, drinks etc. And my husband and I just fill our lunch bags in the morning and we're out the door. Good Luck and if you ever want recipe ideas I keep an arsenal that are quick, easy and very very good, just shoot me a message. |

Ahhhh, thank you so much..... That is very useful. I was talking with my mother the other day about the diet, she seems to think I do not need to do it. I weight 118 lbs and I am not sure how much body fat I have, I am sure it is pretty close to nill. I eat very healthy. I eat no junk at all. I do drink beer, but I think beer is good for me. I just bought protein from costco and some other things. I have not started the work out yet, though I am thinking next week. I started doing a little excercise here and there to help me get use to the program, and I also started eating a bit more. The portion plan I follow, it is just way to much food for me to eat. I did the breakfast with the omelet and it was too much. I switched it up a bit. I measured 1/2 the amount of cottage cheese and switched the strawberries with raspberries 2oz of that, which was 3 times less the amount. Added some honey and made 2 eggs and drank soy milk. Even that was way to much food for me, I almost felt sick and wanted to barf. I am not sure what the deal is, but the food seems to be way to much for me. Let me know what you think or any suggestions.. Thanks.

Well this "diet" is a lot of food. But remember when you're doing P90x you are burning way more calories and the food recommendations are specifically to provide the energy you need while doing P90x.
So don't be worried about not being able to eat all that before you start. After you start you'll see that you need more energy and if you don't you might not be working hard enough. Revisit your diet after 2 weeks of P90x, that's what I plan to do to make sure I'm providing my body with the energy it needs. Cause remember if you don't eat enough while burning all those calories it will just make you gain fat cause your body will go into starvation mode. |
