Hello Everyone,

I've been doing some traveling lately and was looking for something other than whey protein drinks and protein bars to supplement my needs. The same old thing can get pretty boring, and it's fun to change up the diet now and then "because it's different; I'm a fan of different". We've all heard that line, right?

I stopped in a convenience store for a travel break and began to look at the various types of jerkies that were available. Beef was always a favorite, but now there's turkey jerky as well! A serving has 120 calories, 21 gm of protein, and 300 mg of sodium. Not too bad! I bought and munched my way down the road and felt very satisfied. There's just something gratifying about chewing your food and getting full...the water I purchased to go with it hit the spot.

I thought I'd just post this on the forum for your consumption.

Sorry...couldn't resist the pun!

Sparta-bound!!!

Kevin

awesome! my only gripe with jerky is that it's often really expensive for what you get, but as far as taste, I love it!

I LOVE jerky! I have a dehydrator at home and make my own on occasion. I found a recipe for turkey jerkey but haven't tried it yet.

Have you ever had Jack Links Original Steak Nuggets? I was scolding a friend of mine that is trying to lose body fat when I saw him eating them, but when he showed me the nutrition label, I was surprised. For a snack it is not too bad.

Only 70 cals per serving, 1 gram total fat, 10 grams of protein. There are 3.5 servings per container. Eating just one serving is pretty easy. I don't normally eat red meat, but I gave it a try. It is tasty. I haven't had them since my buddy shared them with me, but I have always remembered how it was one packaged snack that wasn't too bad for those who are trying to get fit.

I love jerky for exactly this reason! I like the semi-guilty thrill of having a "snack food" while knowing that I am actually not messing up my numbers for the day too badly. I especially like the convenience.
I would love my own dehydrator! Dried fruits and jerky...mmm. I am jealous, runningjunkie!

They're not that expensive:

It would make a really great Mother's Day gift if you are a mom. Even if you're not a mom, it's a great gift!
