I am really new to this protein stuff so I want to make sure I am getting enough. I am supposed to be taking in about 2,000 calories a day to lose weight (according to myfittnessdotcom). I am having a hard time getting that many calories. I have found that I have been in starvation mode for several months - barely taking in 1000 calories.
So, now I am trying to get my menu just right.
For example today at the end of the day I will have taken in about 74 for protein (am guessing that is 74 grams) but still really low on the calories not even 1300. I need to get in more fruits and veggies I'm sure and eating a bigger breakfast.
So, here are my stats and maybe that will help with how much protein is enough or too much...
41 years old - female
213 pounds
5'10

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

What is your ideal weight? If you want to get to 200 pounds for example, shoot for around 200 g of protein a day. Basically, try to get one gram per pound of body weight.

I am by no means an expert, but I am taking in about 1650-1700 calories a day. Right now, I am doing 50/30/20, Protein/Carbs/Fat. So half of my calories need to be protein, 850. Divide that by 4, I get 212.5 or 213 grams of protein a day.

Hope this helps.

Keep in mind that the 50/30/20 ratio is only for the first phase of the nutrition plan for P90X, which is very high on protein. After the first 3 weeks, you'll switch over to phase 2, which is 40/40/20, and what you will most likely stay at for the remainder of P90X. If you're consuming 1600 calories, then 40% protein would be roughly 160 grams of protein.

So I would say shoot for somewhere between 160 to 200 grams, depending on which phase you're in and your calorie goal. Sounds like right now you aren't getting nearly enough protein.
