Help with snacks 9 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 1
So my 2 snacks are always a protein bar and 1oz string cheese.

Its good but eating 2 protein bars per day is starting to be pretty expensive. I could probably save a lot of money by just eating 1 protein bar a day but I dont know what to eat in place of the protein bar, what should I eat?

I agree! I need more snack options. Here is my question: can we only eat the snacks that they recommend on the portion plan? Not many options for us picky eaters. Can I eat other snacks that are fat free and have less than 100 calories...such as fat free jello?

Please help with this...I'm getting tired of eating the same snacks every day & it's costing too much money. I don't want to stop p90x just because of lack of options.

THANKS!!!!

I totally understand....It's my opinion if you want to substitute something like....Walnuts for almonds or salmon for chicken ect....then that would be fine. But to go from something like almonds to fat free jello???? If your going to substitute then you need to stick to the same category and same nutritional value or as close to it as you can.

Don't get me wrong...we can all alter the P90x diet plan, exercise plan, calendar, the order of exercises ect... But some people tend to get a little stupid and try to write a brand new P90x plan and then seek approval. If someone thinks they are smarter than a career dietitian, nutritionist, personal trainer, ect.... that has been doing this for years and has written this program...then by all means substitute diet cokes for protein drinks, substitute fat free jello for almonds, do yoga instead of Kenpo or whatever...it's your money that you spent on the plan.

If your going to substitute a nutritional snack like almonds or a piece of fruit for Jello...which has no nutritional value what-so-ever then what results are you expecting at the end of 90 days with thinking like that?

Almonds for walnuts...kiwi fruit for an apple, I can understand that.

That's what I was gonna say Sean, eat an apple, or more fruit. Yes it is carbs and especially in phase I carbs must be kept low, but come on an apple or orange, grapes. Perfect snack and good for you. Off the top of my head there is nothing I can think of that is snacky/treat like that will not have a negative impact on progress. I have a diet coke once in awhile (my vice, long story) but at least I am not eating, cheese and crackers or chocolate, processed high calorie foods etc, etc.

Skim mozz Cheese only 25 cals per ounce and thats pretty yummy melted. or a slice of whole wheat (50 cal) or pumpernickle (80 cal) toast (watch out for high fructose corn syrup) I have never tried turkey jerky but that sounds good too.

You can have 200 cal of carbs a day. I sometimes split up my 1 carb and have 2 slices of wal-mart brand whole wheat toast with breakfast (100 cal) If I felt like I needed some more carbs I still have an extra 100 cal carb to eat.

Thanks for everyone's positive help & encouragement. My husband & I are new to this. We want to be successful but unfortunately we are not huge meat eaters...which makes phase 1 a little tough. Anyway, I understand the whole "only eat nutritional foods for snacks". We will definitely choose fruits or cheese when we need "other" snacks.

I like my edamame. Those little soy beans you get at sushi restaurants. They are delicious, cheap and packed with protein. They're available in every grocery store in the frozen food section.
