Gang,

With so much discussion on types of weights vs. bands, etc., I thought it would be interesting in how you setup your workout locations. One thing that amazes me in the commercials is how people can have an entire room with hardwood floors and a 40" LCD dedicated for just their workouts. Those of us in the middle class have to carve out our exercise areas in niches and corners around the house.

Personally, I do mine in an unheated garage out back. I back out one of the cars, fire up a bullet forced air propane heater, and then go back out anywhere between 15 and 30 minutes later depending on the current state of the Ohio winter. Once it gets down to single digits, it's tough to get the temp up to a tolerable 20 degrees, but I've managed to do it all winter. Ohio summers tend to take it the other direction with 90 degree / 90% humidity...

I finally got smart and realized I don't have to do yoga or Xstretch out there as I don't need the equipment (duh), so I do those in the bedroom.

For the videos, a tv/dvd player wouldn't last long out there, so I reformatted a truly ancient Toshiba laptop with XP. I ripped the videos to avi, and play the workouts on that. It's a 15" screen, but it's amazing what you can get used to if you're serious about fitness.

Add a rack of dumbbells, a pullup bar mounted to a rafter, and four of those interlocking 'puzzle' pads from Sears, and I'm ready for action.

Anyone else want to contribute?

Nifft

Being out of town and in hotels every other day....I've downloaded many routines on my Zen Media player that only has a 4 inch screen or something like that. I bought some external speakers from walmart and viola'! I have my hotel set up for plyo, yoga and insanity workouts. I prop the zen up against the speakers where I can (kind of) see what's going on and I follow along.

I do pretty much the same as the original post.

Do workout in garage, though it is totally unheated, and the temp has been just above freezing here in UK lately. If you work hard enough, you don't need any extra heating.
I just pull out motorbike and ready to go. Have Pullup bar, push up stands, various weights in there.

We have just decorated a bedroom, so I now have the old carpet in the garage, which makes things slightly warmer.

Watch the videos on a laptop.

I also do yoga (and Kenpo too) in a bedroom.

Wouldn't mind a room with wood floor and walls of mirrors with huge LCD tv though

I work out in about at 10ft by 5ft space in my bedroom. I have old creaky hardwood floors, and I have no TV so I use my laptop as well. Not the optimum setup, but it gets the job done.

i currently use a 12'x5' space to the side of my living room. i'll sometimes use the TV (50" HDTV) or my laptop- if i'm watching tv and working out at the same time =P

before, at my parents' house- i would mainly workout in the basement (unfinished). used the interlocking foam tiles as my flooring (4' x 4'), and rest my laptop on a stack of old tires from my car! but for the routines that required the pull up bar, since there was no suitable door down there for it, i worked out literally, in the doorway of my room. do the pull ups on the bar, then get down on the floor, half of me in my room, the other half of me in the hallway- to do the push ups. Legs & back was a touch annoying to do there. but i did most of the leg moves in the hallway. after a while, i didnt even need the videos anymore, just the worksheets.

it honestly does not require much space, if you're determined enough, to get this done. sometimes, it takes some creativity.

I've got a bedroom of my house completely dedicated to my home gym. I've got a power tower, a night stand to put my laptop on, another night stand that I keep my powerblock dumbbells on, and it's about an 8x10 room. I feel pretty lucky to have such space actually, compared to some of you guys! lol
