Losing my Grip 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: -1
Yoga is hard enough to begin with. I bought a mat that I felt I could afford it may not be the best but it's what I got. I am limited to a carpeted area of my house. 10 minutes into Yoga I am sweating and my hands and feet are sliding all over the mat. I end up getting off of the mat and complete the session on the carpet. Is there anythig I can do to keep this from happening? Besides not sweating of coarse. Does anybody wear gloves or shoes?

Thanks for you time.

I have the same problem. I end up putting my hands on the carpet buut keep my feet and head over the mat so I drip on it.
I'm sure gloves would work too. Big Papa

Hi!

My boyfriend wears sweatbands which really seem to help. We wear shoes when we work out (even though we dont like shoes on our carpet).

I'm having problems with my mat too. I'm in the same boat as you - i have what i can afford. I'd like to get the mat flooring system from Sears. It's interlocking mats and about $20-$40 a pack which does about a 4x6 area. I'd have to get a few packs to cover enough area for me and my bf - but it would be so much better. We're on the 2nd floor of an apartment and my neighbor complains about the pounding. I say he shouldn't have picked an apartment under someone else if he doesnt like noise. Regardless, i still feel bad about it, and think a more cushioned mat would help. we're very limited on space too. we have 3 sofas in our tiny living room and have to move one into the kitchen when we work out. i moved the kitchen table to the patio. it's a lot of preparation for this work out, but i'm so excited we've finally started!

we start yoga in a couple days - let me know how the mat situation works out.

I don't know if you guys have Big Lots around you, but they have the interlocking option (probably of a lesser quality than Searsfor about $15) that I use for jumping and stuff and seems to work. For the yoga/sit-up mat, I bought a mat from Wal-mart, I think it was about $20 (Gold's Gym Brand) and it is very comfortable, I'll let you know how it works for Yoga when I do it two days from now.

Thanks for your input.

I was talking to my sister who is really into Yoga and she said she uses a special cover on top of her mat to catch the sweat. So I used a bath towel it worked pretty good but it wasn't long enough to cover the entire mat. So I had to keep sliding it around. I'm going to try a beach towel next time. The gloves were okay at first but I felt that they restricted my fingers from spreading out so they didn't last very long. I do have a Big Lots and I am going to look into other options.
Thanks for your time and input !

Ken

I just ordered floor mats for my whole living room. We use about a 7' by 12' area when we work out and I'm sick of the floors getting sweatty and yucky (and of course it's me who vaccuums 7 carpet cleans and not my bf - I wont get too into that!!!). Anyways, the ones I bought are from Sport Chalet website and they're on sale abou $10.00 for a 12 square foot area. The shipping was a lot since they sent them in 6 boxes ($35.00 for shipping total - not too bad I guess). They're 1/2 inch thick and I would have preferred 3/4" thick, but the price was what I could afford.

Just as an update, the mat i bought was from walmart (golds gym brand). it has rivets in it so the sweat kind of stay there. Towards the end it gets a little slippery but just wipe it off and you are good to go. Man, this is my first time doing yoga in my life, and i don't know why i didn't start earlier.
