TOPIC: Pull Up Bar

Pull Up Bar 2 years, 8 months ago #25425

I have a straight pull up bar in my house already, and I'm wondering if that will be good enough for the p90x workouts. Is it necessary to have the one with the different grips and stuff?

Thanks.

I don't know what type of pull ups are after phase I, but the phase I pull ups are all on a straight bar. I have a couple handles that come straight out, and I do use these instead of the switch grip pull ups exercise. I just can't do switch grip pull ups. I have to bend my knees because my pull up bar is on a door frame. I don't want to fall on my knees if I slip.

As long as you can achieve a fairly wide grip on your bar, it'll work just fine. Why spend more money?

You should be ok for Phase 2. You do pretty much the same type of pull ups. All the videos I have seen they are using a straight bar.

A straight bar is perfectly fine for P90X. If you move on to P90X+ then they recommend their super-duper-expensive bar since they actually tailor some of the workouts after it (I really want one). It's still not necessary, and more a convenience than anything else.

Thanks for the help. That's exactly what I wanted to hear. When I built mine I purposefully made it wide. I'd used ones that fit in doorways (not like the p90x) one, and I didn't like not being able to get a wide grip. I also made mine tall enough so I don't have to bend my knees. Ten foot ceiling in that room...

Cheers all!
