modifications to schedule- deleting routines 2 Months, 1 Week ago

Hey Guys,
Ok so here's my situation: I work in a very demanding job in finance which forces me to work some extremely long hours. Because of this, working out 6 times/week is literally close to impossible (I know morning's are always a possibility, but I need a rare couple hours of sleep). Because of this, I was thinking I can only do 4 times/week max, by eliminating YogaX and KempoX from the routine in phase 1, and just doing the other 4. I'm already 6'1", and about 160lbs, so it's not like I'm overweight or anything. Any thoughts on my plan, keeping in mind my severe time constraints?
Thanks!!

You could do that. In all fairness, you won't get the same results, though.
I understand your dilemma...60 hours is a light work week for me, and for many of us here in the forum. You've probably already read about people doing P90X at 4 in the morning or at midnight, because it's the only time they have. It may or may not work for you, and that's a decision you'll have to make.
Rather than leaving out a routine on a regular basis, you might want to consider rotating your workouts so that you get all of them in on a two week basis. You could, for example, do most of the weight lifting style workouts one week, then do the yoga and plyo and kenpo workouts the second week. I would NEVER recommend not doing a flexibility workout as part of your routine! After 3 months in this routine, you could have less flexibility than when you started!! It's absolutely essential to your success. And you'll want the plyometrics training for your overall health. Make sure you do Ab Ripper at least twice a week as well. It's 15 minutes of pain for long term gain!
If time is the most critical factor and there's no compromise, you might look at Tony's 10 Minute Trainer. You can do it daily, and it's intended for those folks with very little time for a workout. It isn't P90X, though, so you won't get what you can get with P90X.
Hope this helps,
Kevin

Thanks for the response. But I still don't quite get why everyone says flexibility is absolutely critical to obtaining results. I know plenty of guys who are ripped and have never even considered yoga- they probbaly think it's some sort if ice cream flavour!
I respect the fact that yoga is a useful routine, but with such limited time, I feel like that one hour (or so) could be better spent doing some resitance training or something

Everyone will have a different opinion on this topic.
My thinking is, why do the P90X challenge if you are not going to "Bring it" 100%? If you aren't doing the Yoga, or make the effort to include it, then you aren't really challenging yourself are you?

True. But they would be a lot less prone to injury if they incorporated it into their routines. I didn't like it at first, but I'm starting to love it now. And its not just about flexibility, if you really take it seriously, man do you feel great at the end. Also keep in mind that this is YOGA X not just YOGA...i'm sure you could do plain yoga w/o many problems, but the first half really is there to work you! I personally believe that YOGA and X-Stretch are integral parts of this program, but that's just my take...I'm no professional.....BUT TONY IS.

I feel it's perfectly fine to adapt the schedule. The problem is that P90X is indeed a balanced workout and removing all the stretch and cardio kind of defeats the purpose of the program. I would instead keep the same schedule but simply skip days when you can't workout. You just continue from where you stopped when you get back to it. Using software like WorkoutSoft XtremeFit Tracker makes it a breeze to adapt the P90X schedule while still completing the entire program. It took me 130 days to complete P90X and I still got all the bang for my buck.

I know what you are saying about the hours. I am doing my workout at 3 am and dont get home from work until 5:30 pm. The yoga is fantastic a little long though. What I did was schedule that for the weekend when I have more time and have my rest day on wednesday. Another option for you is to split it in 2 after about 50 minutes it changes to the balance postures and you could do that on another day. I like the yoga workout best of all, it is not easy but i feel great after it, I have a job where I sit all day and my legs get soo tight.
