Cohen Curls: What is the real impact of it 1 Year, 8 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi All,

I really like to learn about the exercises, and am really curious to know what is the reall reason behind the cohen curls.

The reason I am aksing this is because, it has squat position and bicep curl. I feel that it gives more of stability move then directly impacting the bicep.

Any comments will be appreciated.

Regards,
Abhi

If I'm thinking correctly, the Cohen Curl is the one where you're leaning against a wall, somewhat squatting and have your elbows on the inside of your knees while doing a bicep curl? If I'm wrong then disregard this

This exercise I believe targets the bicep directly without involving too much of the shoulders and and such. When you lean your elbow against your leg, same as with a seated bicep curl where you spread your legs and rest your elbow on the inside of your leg, the exercise aims at only, or almost only, targeting your bicep. When you do standing bicep curls, your back and shoulders are also involved, as well as a few other muscles in your arm.

Anyway, I'm no expert, but that's what I've gathered from one or two weight training classes that I've taken and a book that I've read. I may be WAY off here, so don't take anything I say too much to heart. Hopefully someone else can give you a more sure answer. Cheers!

Yea, it's just another way to isolate the biceps.

Well said
I too feel like it's an isolation move, it promotes pure curls because the only engaged muscles are in your arms notably your biceps and forearms

I personally do a stripset on my Cohen curls and yes the burn is omnipresent.

Thanks you all for your view points. I personally feel that it takes more impact on my entire body rather than just biceps. anyways, maybe I need to correct my form.

If you are feeling like you are using your entire body, then you are using too much weight.

The exercise does not allow for cheating like a regular curl allows you to 'put your back into it' to throw the weight up in the end.

I usually do my cohen's freestyle with no wall. Just crouching like a catcher. If I use too much weight, I feel it in my back. the right amount is magic though!
