TOPIC: Bicycles (ARX)

I'm approaching the recovery week of phase two and loving the program. I still have the same trouble with the bicycles though. Every rotation I feel and hear a pop where my legs meet my hips. It doesn't cause me any pain, but i couldn't imagine that popping both legs over 50 times could be good for that joint. Anyone know what this could be from?
As a side note, I also noticed that on this exercise he counts to 25 slower than me or any of the people in the video actually bicycle. Should I just be doing the 25 reps as he indicates at the beginning of the vid, or should I go for his slow 25 count and maybe squeeze out 30-35 reps if I can? |

I would think it would be up to you how many reps you want to do. I know that some people add many many many more mason twists at the end of the exercise, so I don't see why you couldn't, just don't do it so fast that you lose out on having good form. Form is everything in every workout of this program.

Any ideas on the popping at the top of my legs? That was my main concern.

I have the same problem with my hips popping on certian moves w/ ARX. However, it comes and goes. My philosohpy is that if it's not causing pain then continue (it usually goes away after a few rotations). But if the popping does not go away then do a different/similar exercise.

I had a the same problem with my shoulder when i worked out (before p90x) sometimes there was pain so i went to the doctor. He said that the tendon from my bicep was inflamed (thats where the pain was coming from) & that cause it to slipping out of its grove in the ball of my bone in the shoulder causing the sound.
He said that i was lifting weights that where to heavy & I should stop (A doctor told me to stop working out I played that card for a while). When i started p90x i didn't lift so heavy & it's fine now, But i never really stretched before a workout like we do in P90X. I know it's a diffrent body part & we are all diffrent but i might help to do some of the stretches from Yoga or X stretch first maybe frog or some of the bum / hip stretched. Hope this helps. |

My hips make a grinding noise when I do the first few exercises of ARX, but like the OP it doesn't cause any actual pain, so I just keep going no problem.
People actually ADD reps to mason twists??? I can barely make it to 30 before I need to rest. I also notice Tony's slow counting. The front 25 bicycles he counts normal cuz he's doing them, but then when he gets up to check form he starts counting slower. Same thing with the scissors. He counts a normal pace while he's doing them, but as soon as he gets up to start checking form he slows his count down. It burns!!!!!!!!!! |
