hey all. p90x will be starting soon but before i do, i have another question...

i mainly will be doing the workout after work (around 6pm). but there will be days where i have stuff to do in the evening so i will have to shift the workout to the morning. if that's the case, should i eat something before i workout in the morning (the workout would be at 7am)? and if so, how long should i wait to workout after i eat? thanks.

Well it's nice to have your carbs and protein eaten for that meal before you workout. Just be sure not to drink milk before you workout.

i dont think u should have a meal prior to working out...or u'll get cramps...

and from what i've been reading:
cardio on an empty stomach will speed up ur fat loss process...
usually u burn what's in ur stomach first and since u dont have anything in the morning, the body will reach for the fat already stored in ur body for energy...
(this i read for sure in "body for life" which recommends doing cardio in the morning before breakfast)
but if you are doing strength training, there's a chance you might pass out from hunger and lack of energy...in this case try a small bar or even a few egg whites to give you enough energy to last an hour of the p90x training...i'm planning on preparing egg whites the night before so i can have them w/o having to wait a long time...

just make sure u have a balanced meal after ur workout...other than that, i think a small bar will work just fine.

good luck waking up...i'm scared about missing my alarm clock!

Hey Fab,

Thanks for the note. Actually, I'm not sure how something in your stomach can be used for energy before being digested and absorbed. But I think you might be right in the sense that your body will be trying to divert energy from your muscles to your gut to absorb the meal and you may not have an optimal workout because of it.

Also, your metabolic rate picks up for about 2-3 hours after your workout, and if you have an empty gut the only place to go for energy is the glycogen stores in your body or your fat stores. Ah-Ha!! Belly burn!!

I think the cramp thing fits in here, too!

Well if you get to the point on any of these exercises to the point of heaving, you need to slow down. If you over exhaust your body you will only damage it instead of healing.

But anyways,

I don't really think anyone has a real answer for this. From everything I've read, it volleys. So the best why to find out, try it out both ways. One week eat before and the other don't eat before.
