Thanks for the tips. I have a couple of questions I am hoping for some help on. First I see alot of post on supplements. I am 5'11 215 and looking to loose about 15 pounds. I also dont want to spend 400 bucks on supplements. What would you recommend. Also how do you calculate your body fat %.

Re:Tips for Beginners 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
I started P90x on 10/22. I have gone thru 2 ARX programs and have not done very well. I am able to make it through the weightlifting piece but I am just "bonking out" on ARX. Maybe 5-10 reps on some sets and I have to rest. Should I pause the videos and rest enough to do ALL of the exercises or just rest through some of the exercises w/ no reps. This maybe a silly question but I wanted to see if anyone else had this much trouble with ARX when they started. Thanks for any encouraging words.

Are you doing ARX right after the day's other workout? Maybe you would benefit from splitting the two up. I usually work out in the mornings, then do ARX in the afternoon when I get home and I find that I can bring it a lot more by doing it that way.

I didn't read through everything so not sure if anyone posted this before..

My #1 piece of advice is stretch and stretch and stretch again. I got hurt in phase 3 my first time trying and a lot of that was due to not stretching. I missed a lot of days just because my legs were hurting so bad from not being stretched so I am going to just reiterate this as much as I can. Overstretch as much as you can.. I don't mean strain your muscles I mean if you have 5 minutes where you aren't doing anything stretch.. Take an extra 10 minutes over the program's stretch program before AND after.

Also just as a sidenote this increases bloodfloow so it will help with results but I am mainly suggesting it so people can avoid injury because it is devastating to the psyche to be so close and not be able to walk a week later. Or like with my wrists I couldn't pick myself up off the floor without a great amount of pain til recently.

So please just stretch!

I have been tempted to buy this program many times but they looked way too hard. I have been working out seriously for only a year or so but I would still consider myself to be at an intermediate level.Even though I pump weights, my upper body is still not strong enough. Doing those pull ups, push ups are just too hard for me. Those exercises are fit for relatively fit people, not for beginners. I can do only as much as I can but to get to that level would probably take a while. It takes years to build muscles like Tony has. And I personally don't like the muscular look on women. A toned boy is attractive but a muscular look on a woman is not very feminine. But that is my opinion, I prefer a softer look on women.

Just started and feeling sore but positive, until I hit Ad Ripper X. Missed it on day 1, faced the beast today...and was humiliated! Thanks for these tips. Very encouraging and exactly what I was looking for to help me keep going.

Today was my first day of P90X. I am starting with the lean program. I started with core synergistics and could not finish the whole thing. I am VERY discouraged. Is there anyone out there that could not finish a workout?

Although the first time I went through it I made it through most of the workouts (I skipped a few exercises in Yoga), I didn't always get as many reps as I wanted, especially on the pull ups.

The key is to try and make it through the workout the best you can and each time it will get better. Take longer breaks between sets and don't feel you need to do it perfect. Those things will get easier each time you do it. The key is not to give up and few months down the road you will be surprised at what you can do.

Good Luck!

Tip #4 helped me get through Ab Ripper X since it was such a pain in the begining. Now im getting past the 12 reps/seconds out of 25 easily.

Hello I am going to start P90x and had a question about the dvd's.
do you start out with DVD 1 the frist day and the second move to disk 2 and do the same for all the other disks. Do i do all 12 disk in a row and then start over to reach the 90 days.

Thanks.

Re:Tips for Beginners 1 Month ago Karma: 0
Thank you so much for the tips!!! I have tried some recipes from the guide however I find I don't have the time to religiously follow it. I am eating healhier and feeing very good. The first week i actually tried P90X I tried it but mostly just looked at it to see what i was really in for. I am overweight but I find I need a challenge and somebody telling me what to do. otherwise its too easy and I fall off track. So yesterday was my first day and suprisingly enough I was able to keep up better than I thought. Again, thank you for the tips

Re:Tips for Beginners 1 Month ago Karma: 0
Hi Everyone!

I just received my p90x dvds today, I am 23 years old, and weigh 181.7 lbs and have a bmi of 25.49. This will be the first gym workout I will ever do and I want to succeed, I really just want to prove to myself that I can get fit and feel great about myself. I feel overweight, I have a beer belly, and my arms and legs are skinny. I want to build myself up and get fit. I would like to know what size of weights you guys can advise me to use, as I don't know much about gym equipment.

Kind Regards from Scotland, UK

Re:Tips for Beginners 1 Month ago Karma: 0
I'd say definitely get a pair of 10s and 15s. 20s would be too high for a beginner and you could move up from there. The 10s will be good for shoulder flys and the 15s will be good for heavy pants and more than half of the dumbbell workouts. I am 5' 6''and 150 pounds and finished 30 days of the workout so far.

I recommend the hex dumbbells with rubber or you could just get the all metal ones. http://www.sportsauthority.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3318262&clickid=body_rv_img

People like the powerblocks but i dont recommend em because theyre so huge and they are much harder to use when youre lifting them behind your head.
