here is something by beachbody exec Steve Edwards, which should give the answer to the age old question, "Hey! When will I start seeing results?!!!!"

your answer:

There is a structure that is designed for you to see the greatest results in the latter part of the program. Essentially, each block is designed to have an adaptation phase, followed by a growth (or mastery) phase. In between we have recovery (that are more like transition phases). Because even the transition phases are hard, you body is in a constant state of adaptation throughout the beginning of the program (varies with indivudual but this is the general plan), that is designed for you to peak late in the program.

In any program you plan for a peak. X is designed to peak late. Once you've adapted to a set routine you have a short peak period where fitness gains happen very rapidly. In a perfect world, we've set this up to happen in block three. And this is where most people make the greatest improvements.

As an example, during our initial test group there was nearly a mutiny due to lack of gains. This was because our small group (4 people) was in breakdown through the first two stages and weren't seeing great results. The all wanted us (me and Tony) to alter the schedule of the program. I drew a chart on a blackboard, showing them what was supposed to happen. Tony backed me up and the program stayed as designed. All of those people's results went nuts during block three and they stopped complaining.

EXTREME SORENESS IN LEGS, Help?!! 1 year, 10 months ago #42884

Hey, I'm 26 yrs old, male, 6'0' and 189 lbs. This will be my 2nd attempt to do P90X. I'm not in terrible shape, I play basketball, hike, golf, snowboard, and jog on a regular basis and am on my feet 40 hours a week for work. However, in my 1st attempt of P90X plyometrics made me so sore I couldn't go to work the next day. I could barely walk. Safe to say, I skipped legs and back 2 days later. The next time i did plyo, I went about 60% and the same thing happened. Every time I did legs and back or plyo it would make me so sore I couldn't even stand from a sitting position or bend down to pick something up for 1,2 and sometimes 3 days after. What is wrong with my legs??? Was I injuring myself? I stuck with it for 6 weeks and the overall soreness decreased dramatically in every part of my body except my legs. Am I really just that weak? Are my legs soooo much further behind than the rest of my body? So I got discouraged because on plyo or legs and back day i was afraid to put forth too much effort in fear of this EXTREME SORENESS. I really want to give it another try, just looking for advice. Thanks!! Anything will help

It is normal. Plyo is killer. I still cant walk sometimes.

Instead of 30 seconds, do 20. Keep moving for the 10 seconds you arent doing anything though. I tried this when I started and it helped a little bit.

Do your best and....well you know...

Stretch better before and after the workout is the best advice I can tell you. Make sure you are eating right. If you don't have the materials to help your body rebuild it takes a lot longer to recover. My legs hurt like crazy the first couple of weeks the first time I went thru..

As I said just stretch a lot more spend an extra 10 minutes before and after if it is that bad for you. If having the good nutrition and the extra stretching doesn't help. Sorry to say this but suck it up . This is P90X!!!!! BRING IT..

Hope it gets better for ya though...

I'm sorry to hear your legs hurt like that...so did mine, so I know how you feel. Here are a few things I found helped me.

1.Stretch. Do extra stretches before and after.

2 Drink a recovery drink within 15 minutes of exercising. My husband and I found that drinking skim milk mixed with ovaltine helps precent that soreness.

3. DON'T sit down the next day. Stand up as much as you can. I found the more I sat the more I was sore.

I know it hurts to excercise the next day, but I did it anyway - and it helped. The workouts are set up so that your muscles have time to repair between work outs. Yoga was the best thing for me, even two days after plyo.

good luck! I hope you find something that works for you. Do your best and forget the rest.
