About to start P90X Monday 5 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 0
Ok, I will post some before pics Monday night before I start and then post updates. But, I am confused on the whole levels thing I don't understand from the book what I am supposed to do with those levels.

I am 6ft and 250lbs and I would like to get down to 210 - 215 and I was thinking of doing the portion route and do phase 1 for 60 days instead of 30 is that ok?

Also, I am 26 and tired of my back hurting and all that crap and after seeing results from other members it makes me feel even better and more excited to get going with the program I just did not see many people in my weight range with before and after pics.

I got the pull up bar and I am getting bands tomorrow and would like to know if the bands are good enough until I can save some money to get dumbbells?

Also, another reason for wanting to get in better shape other then being 250lbs is that my brother and I are starting Massage Therapy classes the 5th of September and when we finish in Feb I want to look good and have patients look at me as a person that can give good advice on health and what not and see that I am in good shape not some out of shape dude that can not even get in shape himself.

With all that being said my classes are everyday 6-10pm and I work 8-5 everyday and just wanted to know if I could do the workouts in the morning since I will have no time for the next few months to do them at night. I am really hype to get on this program and want to do whatever I can to workout every day and not slip. I worked out for about 6 months a few years ago and I got down to 220 and felt great and all that but got burnt out on the same workouts and after see results from other members I just can't wait to work out.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Wade

Welcome and good to see another person join the group! You'll find these boards very helpful.

As for the resistance bands, you'll definitely be able to use them for the workouts instead of the weights. I personally use the weights and find that they are more effective, but if you have the bands the workouts will still be just as hard (doing it right). Some people on here didn't have a "door anchor" with their bands, so were having problems with some moves for the substitutes to the pullups.

Also, you can definitely do the workouts in the morning. I myself do them every day at around 5:30 or 6:00 am. Keep in mind that it will usually take you about 90 minutes to complete them. Yoga is 90 minutes, the rest of them are about an hour, but three times a week you'll be doing AB Ripper added on which is another 15-20 minutes. With your hectic schedule you might want to get as much sleep as possible, specially at the beginning you might have a lack of energy or not recover as well from your workouts if you don't sleep enough. Most people encourage 8 hours of sleep for a proper recovery and the most efficient results or muscle gain. Your muscles do most of their recovery, growth and repair when you sleep.

Anyway, good luck to you and keep us posted on how it goes!

Cheers!

Welcome!

Glad to hear you're going to start working toward being a Spartan! You'll find lots of support here and we're all in this together.

Bands will work just fine. I've been through the whole program with them and I can tell you that you'll get a workout just fine with them. In fact, there are still some things I like the bands for better than weights. Some of the shoulder exercises in P90X will take you through a full range of motion, and some light to moderate resistance from the bands will add a whole new dimension to the workout...you definitely won't be "going through the motion" without getting something in return!

Be prepared to bring it, but listen to your body the first week or two. The exercises will be new to you and you may not last if you don't pace yourself. I admire anybody who can roll out of bed and do P90X...my carcass doesn't warm up before noon! You have a full work schedule and class, and that will keep you motivated. I'd do the recovery drink as well...those muscles will stiffen up during your classes without it.

Hope this helps,

Kevin

Thanks guys I am really wanting to get in shape and look better.

Recovery drink? Can I get that at GNC or is there something else I can drink besides water?

I figured that I will take it slow for the first week or so until I get into the grove of it and then I thought after that I would start over with day one and get to it once my body has gotten use to the wake up call I am about to give to it.

Thanks
Wade

The recovery drink they're referring to I think is the P90X recovery drink.

If not, good recovery drinks can be fruit juice--I use v8 splash, chocolate milk (unless your lactose intolerant like me), or your own mixes once you do some research.

GNC carries a recovery drink that is pretty comparable to the P90X one. It's called EnduroxR4, and the tangy orange flavor is DELICIOUS--especially if you mix it up before your workout and put it in the freezer so it's really cold when you're done!

Content-wise, I think the Endurox has a little bit more carbs and protein than the P90X stuff, but the Endurox doesn't have any creatine in it. If you buy it at GNC during the first week of the month with a Gold Card, you get the 20% off discount, which makes it pretty cost comparable.

Sometimes it can be kind of hard to find in their stores though. They usually have it in the Endurance and/or Energy Booster sections, and not in the realy work-out oriented sections.
