hello i've been doing the program for a few weeks and considering supplements. I am 5'11 weight 153 and would like to gain more weight(muscle) however i have a bit of a gut and would like to get rid of that. My question is, if i take whey protein and hydroxycut together will the effect of one counteract the other? Any suggestions at all will help.
thanks in advance.

Well, I know hydroxycut is a "fat burning" formula and whey protein is a "muscle building" formula, so given their designed purposes I don't they they will counteract each other.
I'm sure you thought about that already though..
I've never taken hydroxycut before, but I think it increases your metabolism to make you burn more calories throughout the day. SO, if hydroxycut does nothing but burn calories than it will not effect the amount of muscle mass you gain. I've definitely heard of people taking weight loss pills after working out. The thing is, they might have different goals than you.
In my opinion, it sounds like the perfect formula to get super cut quickly.
Hope I told you something you didn't already know.

Before giving any answers or suggestions, instead I'm going to ask a few questions.
Exactly how far into the 90 days are you? Still in phase one? Starting phase 2? And which version are you doing? Classic, doubles, or lean?
How closely are you following the nutrition guide? What Phase and Level are you doing?

I don't think that they will counteract one another, but you might be able to find some answers by searching google. I don't really know if you NEED the diet pills if you're trying to lose just a bit of belly fat. For 5'11 and 153 pounds I don't think you should be losing all that much weight... That weight seems pretty healthy, if not a bit low actually. The workout itself will make you lose weight and transform that belly fat into muscle. If you're trying to bulk up however, protein is a great way to go, you may also want to look into creatine supplements (research and read up on them first!).
Make sure to read and research on supplements and healthy weights and everything before jumping into things. I think answering Val's questions will help us understand more about where you are and what you're goals would be. Cheers!

Thanks to all for the responses.. To answer the questions, im currently in day 6 of recovery week 1 so i am entering the second phase doing the classic version. As far as the diet goes i have not been following exactly like the guide suggests but i am eating extremely healthy. I am a chef so i prepare alot of lean protein, mostly grilled no fat. lots of veggies and fruits, wheat breads and pastas, lots of salads. I think im doing that pretty well. I know that for my weight and height i might be in decent shape but i really want to get rid of my extra baggage in the front and increase my weight to somewhere around the 160's-170 range(muscle of coarse) Thats why i am seriously considering the use of supplements. I'll be taking my 30 day pic soon so hope to see some significant difference. Thanks again guys..

Okay, we're all coming to eat at your house!
Seriously, though, I'm not sure you need all the extra supplements. You'll probably gain 10-20 pounds of muscle in your first trip through the program and that would put you in your goal range. Many of us didn't really notice much change in Phase 1, but in Phase 2 things start to happen.
I personally don't like to add any additional supplements to the routine. Some whey protein might help add to the muscle gain, but I don't know that the Hydroxycut would be needed. Just an opinion here. Also, you might just go through the whole program one time without anything (90 days isn't really all that long, after all) and see what results you get. You could then decide if supplements are the way to go in the second round of P90X.
In my case, I still have stubborn belly fat after Round 1 (I'm in the last week of Phase 3 before the recovery week) and I'm doing the Classic version. Round 2 will be P90X Plus Lean, so I can drop more fat and preserve the muscle.
Of course, you're free to do what is best, but it's just my two cents' worth.
Hope this helps,
Kevin
