Yoga 2 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
I think I'm just feeling whiney today...must be one of those days for me.

Does anyone else just not like or "get" yoga? Maybe it will take me more time to get into it?

I always thought I would enjoy Yoga but I really think I would rather be doing something else. I can think of a bajillion excuses...how I feel awkward doing it, how I think I need to do more cardio instead, its cold in the garage and if I do it in the house I don't quite have enough room, I don't have an hour an a half, my mat keeps shifting... LOL.

I actually bought a Gaiam Yoga DVD that was only an hour but I'm still not really liking it so I'm sitting here moaning about it instead.

I do think I'm going to go for a walk/jog today though at least.

I guess I always pictred myself like one of those people that said Yoga changed their lives but I ain't seeing it happen..

Re:Yoga 2 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
I do it because it helps in my martial arts training. In addition, I have two sore S-I joints and aching knees. But I keep doing it because overall it's helping.

I sort of have a love-hate relationship with Yoga right now. I'll stick it out and keep doing it but I can say that it's helped in Taekwondo significantly.

My advice is to stick with it. You may not see the improvement in a few days or weeks, but if you do it as scheduled over 6 months or so you'll see the benefit.

Hope this helps!

Kevin

The only reason i do this yoga is because my muscles feel so much better and relaxed after. I also think my balance and flexibility are improving. But i have to agree yoga is not fun and time drags while doing it, makes the hour and half seem so much longer.

I don't know how other feel, but if you really, really don't like it, you could perhaps break it up into two pieces and do one in the morning and one in the evening (the actual yoga stuff and the stretching part).

Rather than not doing Yoga, and not doing anything else, perhaps you could do X-Stretch?

Try a diff mental approach to it. That is what helped me. I focus on the yen and yeung of this workout. In the first half i know that it the yen and I will have to work hard, but at the end of the workout, the yeung, I know I will be rewarded during my chivasana and that is something I look forward to everytime.

I'm with the OP, I don't like yoga.
it doesn't help that I tried to do it from my Ipod strapped to my arm.

as for the time
I do the 1st 45 min and never go to finish the balance section
so, if time issue break it up.

But I think overall Yoga has its benefits so stick with it.

Yoga done correctly can be a really intense workout...I just find it difficult to do it without an instructor there in person to correct my form.

Our group has dumped Yoga in our modified version. It has its benefits, but it's too long and not intense enough for our bunch of jocks to get into.

Too long and not intense enough?

In the book and in the intro vid they stress the fact that the majority of muscle growth occurs during the resting period. Have you ever considered that the day of yoga is meant to be part of that resting period?

That is one of my issues with Yoga..I wish I had someone to walk around me and make sure my form was good. I think Yoga is one of those things you just need good form on for it to work. Or even a mirror that was big enough for me to check form.

I've gotten to where I like yoga a little more but sometimes if its been a messed up week and I miss a workout day I'll skip the Yoga to get all of my weight training and cardio in.
