It won't kill you but the program is designed in a way to alternate workouts even during those workouts. On legs and back you do 2-3 leg workouts and then pull-ups, that way you're not exhausting any one area and allowing you to bring it the best you can. What some people do is bring P90X to the gym, that way you have all the supplies you need on strength days but you don't have to buy the equipment.
In the end though P90X is flexible, just don't expect the spectacular results alot of people have if you deviate too much from the program. It's been designed to work with itself as a whole.

You're going to need a pull-up bar or at least resistance bands with a door adapter from the beginning. Don't worry if you can't do many (or any), Tony shows you how to modify them with a chair to assist you.
Don't worry about spending $60 on magic pull-up bars or anything, you can get a simple cheap set from Wal-mart or Target and it'll work just fine. So far the only time I've seen the P90X pull-up bar useful is in P90X+, but they're trying to sell you their products all through those videos anyways.

There's no reason to "colon cleanse" your body at all. I would never do it with P90X!! You'll have so much sweat on the floor at the end of a workout you could dehydrate very quickly. You might review with your physician if you have additional concerns.

I absolutely agree with everything. The worst thing that you can do is to go too hard the first week. You will end up quitting the second week because of your soreness. I have been doing the P90 for 50 days and I am totally addicted. There are days that i am tired after work and don't want to work out, but after I do I feel like a million bucks. I have been on the diet for 50days and it increases the results. If your going to do it, have a goal and don't let ANYTHING stand in the way of your workouts. You can checkout my pics

Wow nmccabe, I have been doing p90x for about as long as you (on my week 8 also, though it is a repeat week) and I now look like you did on day 1 lol. Well I guess if I can have your day 30 or 47 body by my day 90, I'll be pretty happy!
I have a tip to add to this thread: Tiger Balm (or the various knock offs)
I love this stuff. When I'm starting a workout and just feel sore and am having a hard time pushing myself, some tiger balm on the sore spots REALLY helps. It takes the soreness away and allows you to do your workout. If you push yourself too hard and get REALLY REALLY sore, ibuprofin and motrin just don't seem to cut it, but tiger balm really helps... and it has menthol so it opens your sinuses too lol.

There is no "bulk" option. I think you're referring to "doubles," which is essentially just classic, but with 3 extra cardio workouts a week during the second and third phase. I have seen other people recommend going classic first and it makes sense logically to me. You want to build muscle so that you can burn more fat. Therefore, you might want to do one round of classic, and then go to lean, and then doubles for a third round if you want. If you can do doubles by round 2, by all means go for it.

After reading your posts I opened up my P90 booklet and started looking through the workouts. The two other programs that I have in my booklet are Lean and Doubles. Maybe the Bulk program is a recent edition. But anyways, I would recommend that you stick with the classic program. It sounds like you want to reduce your body fat while increasing your muscle mass. This can be done within the classic version by performing 8-10 reps per exercise compared to the 12-15 reps for definition. You definitely want to stay away from the Doubles program unless you are in great cardio shape. Otherwise you will burn yourself out in the first couple of weeks. You probably want to stay away from the Lean program because it sounds like your looking to increase your muscle mass. While this probably can be done within the Lean program, the ceiling of achievement is much lower than in the Lean version than in the Classic.
What I would recommend to is sticking with the diet. This is just as important as working out. I guarantee that if you stick with the diet and the workouts, the weight will drop off you after the first week. Compared to you, I'm a short string bean, but I dropped 10 pounds in the first 3 weeks.
Let me know if you need any more advice.

I am planning on starting the p90x program in the next few weeks and had a question:
I don't have a pull-up bar, dumbells, etc and was wondering if I need to get those things or if there are some alternate exercises I could do in place of the ones involving the equipment. Any and all suggestions would be really helpful! Thanks!!

You really do want to get dumbbells or resistance bands and either a good pull-up bar or the adapter for the resistance bands so you can do pull-ups.
Most people recommend a pull-up bar the quickly attaches to the door frame, they're easily removable and generally cause little to no damage to the paint or frame (usually just scuffed paint).
You generally do want to get dumbbells but if you can't afford them, then resistance bands work fine, it's just harder to track your progress and you have to do alternate forms for alot of the workouts.

I need HELP! I ordered P90X online and I'm not sure how the program works because the "watch this first" dvd doesn't work. So I looked at the fitness guide thinking I would just follow the workouts mapped there. But I'm not sure what upper plus and abs/core plus means...do you combine all the upper body workouts to make it upper plus? I did the ab ripper X yesterday and LOVED it (even though I can feel it). Thanks for any help you can give me.

You do the DVD that corresponds with whatever workout you're doing for the day. First week rotation is Chest & Back, Plyo, Shoulders & Arms, Yoga, Legs & Back, Kenpo, X Stretch. On week 4 it changes to the recovery workouts and then week 5 they change out 2 workouts from the original 3 weeks.
Check out the workout schedule and it'll tell you the order to watch them. For the first 3 weeks it'll be DVDs 1-7, after that it begins to switch it up.

Thanks, Corp_T for your response. I'm sure if my intro dvd worked, it would be clearer. I wasn't sure what upper plus meant since there is no dvd called upper plus. The schedule in my book for week 1 refers to dvds that I don't seem to have like total body plus, Can I substitute one of the 7 dvds for that? I'm anxious to start.

it sounds like you may have the schedule to P90X+, an not P90X. you may want to contact beachbody (or whomever you purchased it from) for the proper schedule/worksheets.
