I am not as strong as you, but the main problem is with my left arm. It was damaged when I was born so it is significantly weaker than my right.
Hell, if both arms were the same as my right, I would probably be using 25-30lbs dumbells. However, I have been trying to equal them out, so I have been using the max weight that my left can handle and my right arm is just getting some endurance training. So unfortunately my left right now has been using 8lbs, and I want to buy some 10-15lbs.
I am hoping by the end of the program that the difference between my left and right will be a lot smaller, so on my second time through, I can really push the weights and bulk up a bit. Its just since there is the large muscle gap, its really hard to do a lot of the moves that require equal arm strength and really get much out of it. (Ie pullups, pushups, I have been using my knees to ensure that my left arm is actually putting up some weight. If I do standard pushups my right arm actually does ALL of it. I tested it by removing my left hand once on a standard pushup and it didn't get any harder. )

Defgarden, thats ok!! Its a marathon not a sprint! I got that quote from another....but fits very well for me....
If you feel you need to repeat the week because of a few off days, its cool, but if it was only one, you may be good still...hang in there and just keep pushing!
Well, I've missed two whole days (three if you count the failed yoga the first week). Missing weight training days is a big one for me though. I want to build a lot of muscle during the program, so adding another week is fine.
I know it's a strict program and all, but we are our own judge in the end. After the program is over, I don't plan to repeat it right away, but start focusing more on cardiovascular endurance and more fatloss.
I may repeat this week anyway as I have not yet gotten the full hang of the Leg & Back exercises. I tried it at the gym, but it's harder to remember all of the moves. We'll see. I'm home alone tonight, so I'll have yoga all to myself. Oh boy... It's important though.
My pants feel looser though everyday. And so does one of my dress shirts, which I am wearing for the first time in a while. It's still a little tighter than I want, but I can't believe I'm improving.
I'm glad I have this group though. It does keep me motivated, and has some helpful hints.

I had to skip yoga today, I normally work out in the evening, but just before I managed to pull something in my calf, and have been limping for the last half hour. I'm sure it's nothing serious, but I'll have to push off yoga for the night

Oh man. Hope it's ok after a while.
I couldn't do yoga either. I just got really sick of it, and decided to take an easier route and do Cardio X. Plus I've been eating tons of snacks at work. I hate it when they leave all kinds of goodies out. I had like 3 pop tarts!

Come on dude! Stick to the program! Keep pushin play! When I get cravings of misc things that I know are bad for me, I just picture washboard abs and the look on my fiances face when she sees it, to keep me motivated to not splurge on snacks! Don't give in!

QUOTE: On another note, I have a question. When I'm doing yoga especially downward dog, I cannot relax in this position bcs my hands are sliding away from me, so I'm closer and closer to the floor until I cannot hold this position any longer. It's not safe. I've already had one injury bcs of it,so would appreciate some suggestion or ideas. I'm using a yoga mat. Putting a small towel under my hands helps but I'm worried that the towel might slide away at some point too. I just don't know what I'm doing wrong. Is anyone having the same problem as me?
QUOTE: I had this issue for awhile too because once I started sweating my hands became slippery on the yoga mat. I do my exercises in the living room so there is hard-ish carpet under my mat. I end up having to slide to the end of the mat so my hands are on carpet and have better traction.
:
Thanks TomC, you gave me some good ideas. For the past few days I've been trying to find something that would create that traction and so far bath/shower gloves are the winners hahaha. Thanks!

Sweeet, another Sunday. I'm havin trouble picturing what I'd like for my cheat meal. The first week it was easy. Last week I had a fast food burger and GI problems ensued. Anyone else not losing much scale weight? It's really very odd. My clothes fit better, but the scale weight has dropped like 6 lbs. Hardly any in the last week.
Anyway, we have a recovery week ahead of us. I'm going to do a long distance run on the Yoga days.

Bodyfat going down...

Net weight not changing...
Thats losing fat and gaining muscle. You could be slimmer, more defined, have some 'guns' and come out of the program weighing more than you went in.
Are you really in this to "lose weight?" or to appear slimmer? Most people believe that losing weight is the best thing, when most don't really know what that means. If you want to lose weight and gain muscle it is kind of an oxymoron, because the act of gaining muscle...is gaining "weight."
This is also phase 1. Most people don't have the muscles to do P90X when they start, so early on like this you are building muscles like mad. Once you get to the point where the only time you are building muscle is on the hardcore muscle days, your "weight" will start to go down since you won't be building muscles as quickly. At that point, you will be primarily burning off fat and keeping similar muscle content.

Hi Everyone,
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. This is recovery week. I'm glad. I made it through all the workouts last week. I have to tell you Friday was the hardest day for me. This friday was my birthday. There was so many temptations to blew my diet that I wanted to just scream. I made it though. I continued my regular workouts. The diet suffered only a little. I had a piece of birthday cake. Yummy !!!! Now back to business.
I think the most challenging workout for me this week during recovery will be the Yoga. Is there anyone else who has trouble with the downward dog and going into the warrior pose. I have to pull my leg through everytime. Is it something I'm doing wrong. Anyone have any suggestions?
I'm anxious to hear how your week went so let's keep pushing play folks. WE are in recovery week. Yeah and congrats to us all !!!!!!!!

Yeah in all honesty, I think this recovery week will be harder than the normal weeks for me since its 2 days of yoga!
Due to my past injuries, flexibility has been a huge pain to work out, so the yoga days are easily the hardest days for me. Its not that I get bored, or "just can't stand it anymore," its just rough since some of my joints can't even move in the ways they want. I do my best, but sometimes I wonder if its really helping me any since I can't do the moves as they were designed.
Yes, downward dog has been killing me too. My arms are more sore from yoga than they are from the pushups day, lol. As for the leg swings to warrior, my left one can make it as described on the video, but my right one is pretty bad. It stops short, and I can't even move it with my arm without standing up!
Anyways, my overall flexibilty has improved every time so far, so I guess its moving in the right direction.

I also have to pull my leg through but it's slightly easier then at the very beginning. So, don't worry you are not the only one...
The last week was the most difficult for me. I could see that my form was getting better so I thought let me concentrate on quality more and ... I felt as if I was hit by a truck, every muscle hurt so much!!!

It is kind of funny now...
I almost feel lazy for not doing any muscle work during this recovery week, haha. I remember before P90X I was doing like 2 workouts a week and thought that was pretty good. Now, even after a sunday "rest day" I feel like a complete lazybum. Almost want to do a muscle day during this recovery week just to maky myself feel better. Chest and back, and ab ripper, or something!

Thats a smart idea. 10 - 15 pounds and more repetitions will build some lean and strong muscle!!!
Have you tried bands yet?

I haven't been doing great the last few days, I missed one day and only did part of another. I got the flu, and still feel a bit exhausted, but I am looking forward to todays work out. Has anyone done Core Syng before? Next week I start doubles so I really have to get on a good sleep schedule.

I also want to do some more work this week because this weekend I am goin to the cabin with the guys. BBQ, beer, chips and dip....yeah, it will be interesting to see how long my willpower can hold up the diet when I am there.
I rearranged this week to accomodate for 2 missed days (I shuffled the week around so that I am only missing 2 stretching days), but I might end up going for a jog or try and get the group to play some beach volleyball or something for some exercise to burn off the food we are eating, haha.
I think the days that were going to be effected were:
_04 Stretch
_05 Core
_06 Yoga
_07 Stretch
I think. I am at work so I can't see the exact schedule. I ended up changing it to be...
_04 Core (since I can do my workout before I leave)
_05 Stretch
_06 Stretch
_07 Yoga (since I can do my workout when I get home)
So I will only "miss" two stretching days this week. I plan to be active, depending on weather, at the cabin so I think it will be alright. No matter what happens, at most it would be 2 missed days of P90X during a recovery week. I don't believe it will hurt my schedule much.

I thought Core Synergistics would be easy, at least easier than the regular stuff. Man was I wrong. I think I sweat more today that I have yet. It also made me realize that I really need free weights. A lot of the workouts you need weights, and can't use bands. Even the ones you can, weights would be better. Because I didn't have any, a lot of the workouts I felt nothing in my core.
The exercises that work the lower back though, that was a weird feeling. I don't think I've ever worked my lower back like that, it was great. And do I like side hip raises. Just the fact that while doing it, I can see my obliques really pulling, and I've never seen them before and here they were showing like crazy.

The Chatarunga Run is what killed me. That and the Dreya Roll. I also underestimated the Core Synergistics day. Much harder than I thought it was going to be. I also agree that it seemed almost harder than most of the other days we have done.
