Re:Starting on 5/11/2009 8 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 4
I need to think about getting a vest maybe.

I was almost thinking of installing a punching bag. I need to do more research on that one though. I know some of the days when I was at the gym before P90X, I loved doing taebo and stuff on an actual bag instead of kicking/punching the air. However, I don't know if there is an issue with the impact hurting your joints over long periods of time or not...

Another concern that I have had lately, is for some reason my back has been sore. I really don't know what it is either. Its like I tweaked it, but it only hurts when I am NOT working out. Every time I start my workouts, the pain goes away for the duration of it, then after I take a shower or something I can start to feel it again. Its almost as if the lower back muscles were in constant tension. It felt similar to the way our muscles did in weak 1, but this has been here for 2 weeks now. Not sore enough to really hinder anything, but still its a concern.

Re:Starting on 5/11/2009 8 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 4
I am going to be out of town again for the 4th weekend, so I figured to take my measurements/pictures today.

Biggest area I could see in the pictures was my gut shrinking! and just overall more tone. (still not as much as I want, but the program isn't over either!)

Measurements: Now (Day 1)

Weight: 194.6 (-14)
Chest: 38.5 (-1.5)
Waist: 36 (-6 wow!)
Hips: 37 (-2)
R.Thigh: 22.5 (-2)
L.Thigh: 22.5 (-1.5)
R.Arm: 14.75 (-.25)
L.Arm: 14 (0)

It is kind of interesting to see the measurement changes. Obviously the biggest changes have been in my waist and my overall weight.

However its kind of interesting...my arms went UP in the Day 30 measurements, and then came back down in Day 60. I think its because I packed on muscle to increase them, now I have removed the fat around them to reduce their size again. They are more defined now too!

Yep drawin down to the final phase. I'm actually surprised how easy it's been to stick to this.

My weight loss plateaued for a couple weeks, so I readjusted my diet a bit, dropped the carbs below 100g a day and really trying to keep that protein level up. Anyway, it worked and I dropped a couple more lbs this week. Anyone else notice that the workouts are great, but the progress really comes from the diet.

I remember last year I was training for a Triathlon and my diet wasn't very clean and I was at a plateau for like a month running 30-35 mile weeks! Now I'm losing weight and I'm running (maybe) 9 - 12 miles a week. Hardly enough to do anything. Anyway, I dig it.

Try not to blow your diets too much tomorrow! Happy 4th!

I agree that the most results come from the diet. I've been bad, I haven't been sticking to the diet at all. I've been eating much healthier on a whole, but not eating the right amounts of stuff. I've seen very little change after phase 1 and 2. I'm still hoping that phase 3 brings some more definition. In the end though, it's still great to do this, and I feel it's very rewarding already. I plan on going through it again, and again. When the day comes that I can get through the entire program without modifying anything, and can do all the pull up without a chair or any help, that'll be when I know I've peaked, and it's time for maintenance. Until then, I've always got room to improve!

One other note. For those like me who can't get through all the pull ups by yourself (I can do maybe 3, which is 3 more than before I started, but less than the desired amount, so I modify) my friend showed me a great trick. Instead of using a chair, which tends to make your body swing forward making the workout easier, find someone to hold your angles behind you, and give you a little help. I've never felt the burn from pullups as much as I did when doing that. I'm going to work on a way to simulate the same effect without a friend, it could be just a chair still, but the focus really needs to be on remaining vertical.

Thinking of doing doubles for Phase 3....anyone want to join me? Combination of having July 4th goodies and just having more energy overall, want to bring it extra hard and finish strong.

I might want to make a thread somewhere else for this, but after doing legs and back, and really pushing out the pull ups going for max reps for the first time, my arms are KILLING me. I worked out saturday, the achyness set in a little by sunday. Today however my right arm is killing me. It's the inside of my elbow, the bottom of the bicep and the top of whatever's in your forearm. I can barely straighten my arm without being in significant pain. My left arm is sore, but not in pain like the right. I walk around guarding it, as if it were in a sling. All I can say is I'm glad this is a rest week for me.

Secondly, do we have to stop doing ab ripper x during the rest week? I know, a rest week is a rest week, but I don't want to stop!

Oh, are you a week behind Drum? I can't remember who shifted their schedule a little bit. I know Defgarden did, but I haven't heard from him in awhile.

How did Day 1 of Phase 3 go for people? My fiance started P90X with me today. So I am doing Phase 3 while she is doing Phase 1. She was always giggling at me when I was coming to bed completely wasted, now after she finished her chest/back routine she could barely move! Who has the last laugh now! Hazzzah!

Anyways, day 1 of a new training block is killer. It was fun to see the progress I made in Phase 2 though. We haven't done Chest/Back since week 3, and my numbers today didn't even look like they belonged to me! I did like 8 more pushups on every set than I did the last time we did the video.

Hey Tom, I'm on the recovery week for phase 2 as well, and I didn't shift my schedule. Are you sure you didn't jump a week?

I'm feeling awesome today. I dropped another 3 lbs. The minor diet changes are where it's at. I modified my protein intake JUST a bit and dropped the carbs a little bit more. I realized that I've been eating between 2500-3000 mg of sodium a day. Not good. I didn't realize how much salt is in EVERYTHING until I started tracking everything on the computer. Anyway, shooting for 180-190 g of protein a day and less than 100g of carbs and I'm doin good.

I have a PT test on Thursday and I'm really nervous because this is the first time in a long time that I've done anything but traditional Army Physical Fitness and I haven't done the old "pushups, sit-ups, 2 mile run" since we started. I've been running but not short distances.

Anyway, If I can max pushups and sit-ups I'll feel successful (79 pushups, 80 sit-ups in 2 minutes) .
WISH ME LUCK!

DB

Oh, Tom. I'll totally rock some doubles for phase 3. What do you have in mind for cardio?

I ate like 3000 calories on July 4th so I deserve some pain in phase 3.

Then you guys repeated a week.

If you start on May 11th, which is what this thread was for, and count how many days it is until today...July 7th. You will be on day 58.

Day 58, is the second day of phase 3.

Every day I fill my little calender that P90X gave me, kind of hard to miss a week.

Hmm, guess I got kinda distracted by work and such. No worries, I needed this to be recovery week anyway as I had a PT test today so I needed some rest. Anyway, here's my results.

Last PT Test: (Army Physical Fitness Test)
Weigh-in: 224
Pushups- 55 (in 2 minutes)
Situps- 60 (in 2 minutes)
Run- 14:25 (2-mile)
Waist- 38 inches
Neck- 16 inches

This PT Test:
Weigh-in- 208
Pushups- 79
Situps- 82
Run- 14:45
Waist-35 inches
Neck- 16 inches

Overall, my score increased ALOT . I MAXED my pushups and situps and my run lost some time, but it was pretty hot and I've cut my miles ALOT since P90x started. Anyway, there's some real world numbers for me. Feelin pretty good.

I'm gonna start phase 3 next week. I'm not really concerned about it because I'm not planning on stopping p90x. I'll just do doubles next round.

WOW DB, your results are Awesome!! Great job!!!
I havent taken a PT test in about 4 years now....glad to have it all behind me! ha
Have you considered the p90x plus? It looks like a great add on for the next round. I am thinking of a round of Insanity next and then maybe a round of p90x plus..
Great Job!

Hi,

I supposed to do Core today but joined a hike instead. The hike was intense (grade 4.5 out of 5). The team I joined today is training for a 100km challenge in Nov. They have been training since March and today they were doing 31km (19 miles). I did only half the way - 16km. I didn't think I could exercise extremely hard for 3 hrs non stop! All thanks to P90X. By the way, my heart rate was between 90%-100% for most of the time and I hit the wall 3 times (1 per hour hahaha).
Next Saturday, the team is doing 50km (31 miles), I'm thinking of joining them again.
I've just finished Stretch X. Hopefully, I will be able to move tomorrow

Holy COW. That's a long way to hike. Man, if I exercise at 90% of my MHR I'd be smoked. Great Job!

Ok, my phase 2 went horribly. I missed so many days, redid a week, but still missed some days... I start Phase 3 on monday. I'm going to really bring it and give it my 100% for this last phase. I owe it to myself...

Re:Starting on 5/11/2009 8 Months ago Karma: 1
I did Kenpo today and I used my ankle and wrist weights from the beginning to the end. Somehow, my arms and shoulders weren't killing me today as they normally do 20 mins into the program. I do feel my legs A LOT after that hike I did yesterday. I cannot walk down the stairs and getting up from a chair is very painful. I wonder how many calories I burnt yesterday during the three hour hike at that high intensity. Funny enough I wasn't hungry afterwards. I was just very tired... I'm looking forward to do the stretch tomorrow.
