Well I'm glad someone is enjoying plyo. After two times of it I hate it twice as much. Plyo almost makes me not want to do this whole thing, although that's not gonna happen. I was able to do better the second time (tonight), but I still can't finish all the way. My legs just can't hack it. Stamina wise I can make it, but my legs pretty much stop doing what I tell them at around 25 minutes to go. I figure that's better than nothing.

It is definitely my hardest workout. Still, I'm seeing great results already... lost about 5 pounds, clothes fit a bit better... quick results are definitely helpful for the motivation.

Keep pressing play.

Do y'all feel like our legs are going to get toned as much as our upper body? I thought about this last night as I was doing Plyo and checking out Tony's legs. I'm sure he does weight training w/ Smith machines or similar to get those lovely legs. Also, does anyone know anything about what happens when we move into phase 2 and more cardio is introduced? I lent out my P90X to a neighbor and don't recall if/what it said about more cardio in phase 2.

Plyo still sucked last night but I was able to do some of those squat jumps better than last week. Getting ready to pop in S & A into the DVD player. WooHOo!! Nice to know week #2 is half way done!

I'm almost certain Tony does extra work to maintain those legs - the exercises we do in Plyo and Legs & Back are great workouts, but they are mostly for toning the legs. Tony's legs are very muscular - I imagine he does most of the plyo and leg workouts with heavy weights in his own spare time.

As for me, Plyo went much better second time around, and by week 13, I imagine it will go by much smoother. I will just focus on doing everything more slowly to get a better burn, and perhaps begin using weights in the later weeks (wishful thinking).

I'm not sure about most of you, but my chest and back seem to be more sore after Plyo - can't seem to figure out why.

I did notice being a little sore last night and this morning after plyo. Can't tell if it is residual from Chest and Back, though. My absolute favorite workout is the shoulders and arms. I'm hitting that this afternoon. There is nothing like that totally pumped feeling after finishing that.

About the legs... I think that if we follow the program our legs will look pretty good. I wouldn't want to have legs like Tony's because that takes a lot of effort all the time to maintain. I'm willing to go an hour-ish a day for three months, but can't afford that kind of a time commitment afterwards. I'm using p90x to get my lazy ass in shape, then I'm going to adopt a less strenuous and time consuming regimen to stay healthy.

lol ok i hate anyone who says "i love plyo now" ARE YOU CRAZY??? lol. I prayed for someone to come take my soul last night just so i didn't have to finish plyo but I almost finished. It was my frist time and had 10 minutes left. I had to quit or i was goin to the ER. I've been reading all the post and good work to everyone who's keepin track. I should be able to post some pics tonight. I have to do shoulders and arms at the gym tonight as my dumbells don't get here until tomorrow. But i did research the video so i knew what to do today. I am noticing that i'm getting very tired but i think it's because of the low carb intake. anyone else?

I think you are more tired simply because you are expending more energy in your workouts that you normally wouldn't have. I think in time it should get better. Also, do you do your workouts each day at the same time?

I usually do my workouts late at night, and then crash right after. I did Kenpo X last Sunday at noon, and felt energized throughout the whole day, so perhaps the time of your workouts make an impact.

Re:Starting November 9th . . . who wants to join?!?! 4 Months ago Karma: 1
As far as Plyo goes, I feel like how Tony feels at the beginning of Ab Ripper X....I hate it, but I love it. I did Plyo last night and felt much better than I did last week. I still had to take some short breaks between a lot of the sets in order to get my heart rate down, but I chugged along and finished the whole thing. After I did Plyo last week my quads were out of commission for nearly 4 days, but so far they feel good today. I'll see how they are tomorrow.

And my nutrition was practically spot on yesterday, so I was happy about that. 2,496 calories, 30.81% carbs, 47.24% protein, and 21.95% fat. I'm finally getting my diet to about where I want it to be.

As for energy, I actually feel pretty good every day. I thought I would also be getting very tired, but that has yet to happen. I don't know if it's the recovery drink, the good stuff I've been eating, or the amount of sleep I've been getting, but so far it hasn't been a problem. I have been fairly active for the past few months, though, so that probably helps it a bit. I'm sure your bodies will adjust in no time and you'll start to get your energy up.

Re:Starting November 9th . . . who wants to join?! 4 Months ago Karma: 0
Well, today is yoga, and I am so not looking forward to it. It just seems to last forever!!!! I'm gonna keep giving it a chance, but I may swap out some bike riding on these days if I can't get myself to like it. I almost quit about a half hour before the end last time. Plyo was more draining for me than the first time for me for some reason. I'm off to get some heavier weights though. I have 8 and 10 lbs but I need 15 and 20's to start pushing some of the arm stuff. I tried bands on those to help with resistance, and that was ok. Plus I am so darn hungry all day, so I am trying to up my protein.

Is anyone using the P90X recovery drink? I'm just curious about the taste. I know there are pros and cons mentioned about chocolate milk, but I've been doing that cuz it seems like a tasty reward after my workout. I'm just wondering if it is better to use a 1% or 2% milk vs. fat free? I'm interested in trying the P90X one, but I am pretty picky on taste. My husband has a brand of drink I tried at home and about puked. Also, has anyone here tried those Shakeology drinks? They sound good, but man, they are expensive!!!!

Cheers,
Irene

Irene,

I've been using the recovery drink. They taste like an orange dreamsicle. The first time I drank it was a little yucky but you've got to keep mixing it w/ a spoon while drinking it. I put ice in it too and that helps the taste. It's not a Coke but it's definitely drinkable....

I've been doing the chocolate milk with a dash of creatine. It has the same carb-to-protein ratio, but I assume the "types" of proteins and amino acids in the recovery drink are better suited for muscle recovery. Chocolate milk is just cheaper and HAS to taste better!

Speaking of, is anyone else going the supplement route? I took creatine in high school and had great results. Of course, I was trying to gain weight back then... I assume most of the ladies aren't concerned with the bulking up benefits of creatine, but what about the guys?

I drink protein shakes every morning, and every night where there is resistance training. If the routine is more cardio-based, like Kenpo X, Yoga, Plyo, then I drink chocolate milk at night.

db - what kind of creatine do you use?

Idk about a concentrated Creatine mix but I've been taking a recovery shake called "After Glow", I dont have the label right infront of me at the moment but it contains essential things for post workout, alil low on Protein (Only about 20 Gs) I usually eat a can of tuna or eat a chicken breast an hour after the shake, but it also has glutamine, creatine, amino acids, all mixed into one. Also I have Bazooka Fruit flavor and it tastes just like Koolaid. Read up on it.........you guys might like that as a good alternative to the P90 recovery drink or chocolate milk.

I use the GNC brand creatine (powder), but I'm not a huge fan. I took the capsules in HS, but I read that the powder version is better. It might be absorbed better, but this brand in particular doesn't dissolve well at all. When I'm through with this, I'll try another brand. I'm currently done with the initial loading phase, so I'm moving to the regular dosage for 4 weeks. After that, I'll stop taking it for 2 weeks and continue that cycle for awhile. I have noticed some effects, but unfortunately all creatine will make you retain water (which probably explains my lack of weight loss)

While we're on this topic, what brand of whey proten do you all use. I have (and love) Syntha-6 by BSN. It dissolves great and tastes really good (believe it or not.) Unfortunately, its very calorie and carb heavy (200cal, 15g crabs, 22g protein / scoop). I've heard great things about the 0 crab ISOPURE, as it is supposed to dissolve well and taste good. Taste and solubility are definitely my #1 priorities with protein powders.

I don't know if it's just my bicep, but my arms are really sore right around on the inside of my elbow. I think it happened from doing pullups as well. I still feel a workout in my back, but my arms are definitely sore, and it's not from the Arms and Shoulder workout.

And I'm not sure about the legs, but I found Ab Ripper X to be super difficult after the Chest and Back workout on Monday. I think the back and leg muscles are used quite a bit in the ab workouts.

And speaking of which, ABX went a lot better for me today. I find myself able to complete most of the exercises. While it's not as fast and I take more breaks than the guys do, I still try to do all 25. There's a few, like the Pfisor switches (have no idea what it's really called) and the Mason twists, that I simply can't finish. But I can definitely tell it's getting better.

Oh, and as for recovery drink, I'm just doing chocolate milk with a multi-vitamin. Yes I'm sure the real recovery drinks are better since they're tailor made for helping with recovery, but for now I'm gonna stick with chocolate milk.

I completely agree with the biceps during C&B. I think it is the reverse grip chin-ups more than anything. As for ARX, I think it is hard after doing anything! But, because it is so intensive with hip flexors, I also have a tough time completing it after Legs.
