Note to self: don't go out for pizza and beers thinking you are going to have "just one"!

So..I skipped 2 days...already!

I went to a party on Friday night, i probably burned a lot of calories dancing for a good 2 hours, DRUNK.

Then had to go to a trade show yesterday, i came home and passed out.

going to do shoulders and arms today.

p90x is now p92x..slowly adding up

I had a feeling this was going to happen..its hard, I'm a full time student, part time job, and all the parties

p92x... I think making it literally p90x is near impossible with all the things life (and our own selves) can throw at us. I'm going to be at least p97x, or more. The wife and I are going out of town for Christmas, and although I will bring my bands and do some workouts I definitely won't be able to keep up the diet, or most of the workouts.

Oh well. Life happens. Take it in stride.

I'm just glad for the day off. Really dreading chest and back tomorrow...

Just finished Chest and Back, round 2. I can't believe I finished a whole week of P90X!! After my first C & B I felt nauseous for about 20 mins after. This week I feel tired and shaky, but I was able to jump right into the shower and I feel good! My hands are shaking a little typing this, but I feel like I blew out all the bad food and beer I had last night. My little pizza binge cost me 1000 calories!!! Eek, no more eating out or alcohol. I really need to lose the beer gut.

My back feels really good too, which is saying something as I had pretty much given up on feeling better with my spine injury. I have to really modify the exercises, and I skip some altogether to protect my back, but I can do most of them - just not full range. No biggy, I just do what I can do. Bring it!

Wow, everyone is doing great...congrats on finishing week 1!

I am going to do my best to follow both the fitness and nutrition plan to a tee.

Question for anyone following the nutrition plan - I am not sure if I am going to eat all of my portions, should I force it? My primary goal is to lose fat so I am thinking if I am not hungry, I am not going to eat. Any thoughts?

Day 1 starts for me tomorrow. Let the fun begin!

Hi Everyone, I'm back from wine country. I did the kenpo x on Friday before I left out of town and I really loved it. I felt like it was a nice way to wind down the week and I loved pretending I was kicking someone Saturday was my rest day and my hubby and I were planning to cycle about 25 miles, and we wound up doing 38! I am a very novice cyclist so I wasn't sure how far I could really go. Needless to say I was starving after that. My meals included some wine with dinner and a nice big fat steak Saturday night that was awesome. My biggest challenge was coming back home and making myself do chest&back with ab ripper, which I just completed. I actually enjoyed it this second time around since I knew what to expect. Back to a more structured diet this week. I'm also planning on using a hear monitor this week to see where I am at, as I have no clue. Plus it will be great knowing what range of calories each workout is burning. Congrats to everyone on completing the first week! Don't worry about not being perfect, just keep going like nothing happened and you'll be happy you did. Oh joy, plyo for me tomorrow

Irene

I am no longer jealous of you all, I started this morning!

My work called half way through so I took about a 10 minute break to resolve an issue. I was able to finish the 2nd half strong but I wasn't too happy that I had to stop during my 1st workout. Oh well, these things are going to happen I guess. The ab ripper workout is waiting for me to come home!

Re:Starting November 9th . . . who wants to join?!?! 4 Months ago Karma: 1
Well I officially started P90X today after doing some practice workouts last week. Glad I decided to put off my start date, as I think it'll help to know to expect for each workout as well as having my muscles somewhat ready for the pounding they will be taking.

Chest and Back went pretty well...feel like I brought it pretty good. I still need to get use to using the resistance bands for some of the exercises, as I don't feel too much of a strain. And this was all done using the heaviest resistance band I have.

I did Ab Ripper X directly after Chest and Back, which I think didn't help my cause. I had a lot of trouble getting up off the ground on some of the techniques. I may be wrong, but I think it's because I had just worked out my back pretty heavily, which is quite important when doing situps. I think next time I may not do ABX directly after Chest and Back, but save it for later in the day.

As much as I hate it, I can't wait for Plyometrics tomorrow. My quads hurt for like 4 days after doing it last week, so hopefully this time around it won't be so bad.

And I plan on posting up some before photos, but I can't find the USB cable I need to get them off my camera. Should have them up soon, though. Are people going to be posting their pictures in this thread or should I post it in the Photo's forum?

Awesome Stojaka!! I'll be keeping in touch with you seeing as we started on the same day. You're looking to lose weight, I'm looking to gian it!

I've actually already gained (in the last week of just trying out P90X and doing my protein shakes 3 - 4 times a day) 9 lbs!!! Ya that's right! 9!!! I'm back up to 140 now and I'm pretty sure I can hit my target goal of 160 by Feb 2010. I just have to keep on BRINGIN IT!

I'm start the P90X routine today, and am STOKED! I'm a little scared about the Plyo because of the fact that my ceiling is VERY SHORT and I can't really push it without hitting the top. I may have to go over to my brothers place to do it, which would suck, but is doable.

I'm going to take my before shots today, no measurements though. I'm not losing weight, so I'm not too afraid of my waist size or anything. I can't take my fat % because I literally have no fat, so I'm just going to rely on my weight to tell me how I'm doing.

I'll be on here throughout the week, so you all better be pushing it! I want to hear success stories at the end of the 3 months! SUCCESS!!

I think it would be fun to post them here if we can. I was going to re-shoot mine because I thought they were a little blurry, then I measured my waist and realized I've already lost almost an inch! So that person in my "before" photo no longer exists and I can't do a re-shoot. YAY! My weight is still the same, but my pants are starting to sag on me.

I am deliberately keeping my calories to around 800-900 per day. That may or may not be too extreme, but at my age I can't expect to eat 1500-1800 calories and lose weight fast. My goal is to be at 125 pounds by my 49th birthday in April. That's 50 pounds in 4 1/2 months at a rate of 2 1/2 pounds per week. Don't know if I will make it, but I will do everything I can to get there.

I feel pretty good after Pylo, could only do about 75% of the reps, and started to feel it in my back at the end. Did 15 min elliptical as a warm up. My heart rate is getting better!

Glad to know there's someone else starting at the same time as me. Will definitely help to keep me accountable.

And yes, my main goal is to trim down a little bit and get more lean muscle. I've a fairly bulky guy, so I don't think I need to build up my muscle much more. I'm about 5'10" and weigh 190, but my friends just call me really dense because I don't look fat or overweight. Using some calipers, I calculated my body fat % to be around 18.1%. I stay pretty active in sports, mainly soccer and softball, which has helped me to keep my weight down somewhat. I guess my main goal would be to get down in the 170's, but if I stay above that with losing fat and building muscle, that's fine with me.

And have you tried doing plyo in your place yet? If not, I'd say go ahead and give it a shot. Yes you are jumping up and down and what not, but I think you could probably get away with doing it with low ceilings. I guess it all depends on how hard you want to push it.

Congrats on losing an inch in the waist! It's things like that that keep you motivated to keep pushing it. I know you ladies have stated you can't help but continually checking your weight, but like you said, who cares about weight when you're losing an inch in the waist and your pants are starting to sag. Don't forget, you're losing fat but building muscle, so losing weight will not always be the case.

800-900 calories a day seems to be insanely low. I'm no nutrition expert or anything, but if you're pushing it hard in the P90X workouts, then I simply don't think that 800-900 calories will be enough. I would need to read up on this a little bit, but I think if you don't supply your body with enough energy, it will go into a semi-shock state, which will wreak havoc on your metabolism and do more harm than good. But like I said, I'm no expert, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

GLoBaLReBeL - Wow, 9lbs is phenomenal...especially for someone that does not gain weight too easy. Keep doing what you are doing, it’s definitely working.

Are you taking a shake before bedtime?

Re:Starting November 9th . . . who wants to join?! 4 Months ago Karma: 0
I'm not an expert either, but unless you're a featherweight 800-900 calories is not enough food even for normal body functions. From what I've read over the years, and even what was said in the Nutrition guide, if you don't eat enough your body will go into 'starvation mode.' You'll lose weight simply because your body basically starts 'eating itself,' and any food that you do eat will go not towards building lean muscle, but fat storage.

I remember Covert Bailey saying that people worry too much about caloric intake when they should be worried about how much calories they're burning. He likened it to a gas tank. People who exercise regularly metaphorically puncture holes in their 'gas tanks' so that even when they aren't working out they're going through fuel/food. If you don't intend to exercise then certainly watch how much you're eating, but if you're doing intense workouts, then don't run on 'fumes' because you could burn out and completely digress.

Anyway, all said out of concern. The fact that you're subjecting yourself to this masochistic program means you're serious about your health, so don't jeopardize yourself with not enough nutrition.

Cheers.

Re:Starting November 9th . . . who wants to join?! 4 Months ago Karma: 0
Thanks fightFAT. I'm not taking anything before bed yet. I've been doing one in the morning, one 1 hour before workout, and one right after. I've only been using 2 - 2.5 scoops instead of the 4 that it recommends.

Starting today though I'll be taking 4 scoops in the morning, 3 before workout, 4 after workout and 3 before bed. I think that should help with the weight gain. I'm also going to try and do some other kind of workout rather then yoga, because I get INSAINLY BORED about 30 minutes into Yoga.

I have the same dilemma. I've just started keeping my %s good and eating until I'm full. No need to overeat to hit that 2300-2400 mark. I'm about at 2000/day, but I never feel hungry. (5'11", 196)

I just finished C&B + ARX, and I am wiped out. I did a few more reps than last time on each exercise, but pullups are still my nemesis. It's very hard for me to crank out ANY unassisted. Oh well, it will come with time. After a week, I'm convinced that there is no way for this NOT to work. Stay motivated, stay consistent, and trust the process!

It may be psychosomatic, but I am noticing some results. Not sure if I have lost a lb or not, but I really don't care. I feel great and find myself flexing in the mirror a lot. Results are the #1 motivator and I'm so happy everyone is seeing them in their own way. I've decided to do pictures every 10 days (for simplicity sake, so I guess I'll be the first brave one to post them on Wednesday.)

Is it just me, or has the ARX gotten progressively harder each time? Not sure if it's because my form is improving and working my muscles more effectively or what...

Glad to see everyone doing well - Keep bringin' it! Oh yeah, Roll Tide Roll!! Any college football fans on here?

-D
