Starting Monday - Any Suggestions? 5 Months, 4 Weeks ago Karma: 1
Hey all,
I'm new to the forums and I'm aiming on starting my P90X experience on Monday. I have a couple of questions that maybe you guys can answer for me.

My schedule is going to be working out in the morning, since it's the only time I really have free being that I'm working all day. I'll be getting up at 6am and doing the workout for the 1h to 1h30 depending on the day. I'll be trying to get to bed by midnight, so hopefully getting at least 6 hours of sleep a night. Is it alright to be working out that early in the morning? And should I eat breakfast before or after the workout? I typically never eat right before a workout...

Also, I'll be drinking a protein shake from protein powder, which I guess would be best if I drank it right after the workout.

My plan is to get up at 6am, workout until 7:30am, take a shower, have breakfast and then head out to work by 8:30am.

I'm in relatively good shape, weighing 171 lbs at a height of 6 foot. I've played sports all my life and had a few workout periods where I was really into it. So I'm trying to start up again with the daily workouts. I can do the "Test Workout" or whatever it's called fairly easily. Right now I'm hitting the gym 2 to 3 times a week, while as last summer and 3 months this winter I was working out daily.

Any tips or suggestions based on what I've planned?

Thanks a lot for the help!! Greatly appreciated!

you can workout whenever, as for eating I'd say no because P90X is essentially a bunch of superset so it could make you nauseous to the point of vomiting so no food at least none that you can't hold down.

Well, I'm on a much looser schedule so I typically eat breakfast first then wait at least an hour before I work out. But unless you get really hungry or something when you wake up, I'd definitely suggest doing your work out then having a nice, high protein breakfast along with your protein shake and a multi vitamin.

Thats what I would do when I was running 5 miles everyday at 7:00 in the morning. And days like plyo and kenpo are comparable to running a couple of miles.

Thanks for the replies guys. So I guess I'm sticking with my plan then. I just got myself some Kre-Alkalyn creatine since I read that it helps quite a bit. I'll be taking one of those before each workout in the morning, then hitting out my hour or hour and a half, have my powedered Myogenix Whey Deluxe protein mix and a good breakfast (eggs and bagel and fruit) and then head off to work.
I also go to the gym about twice a week at night around 8:00pm or so. I guess I'll tone down the intensity of my workouts at night seeing as they'll just complement the P90X workout routine.
Any more suggestions or comments are greatly appreciated.
Thanks again!

Going to the gym twice a week on top of p90x? I think your underestimating how sore your gonna be the first couple weeks. I will say though, that I thought about going to the gym and doing bench press since during phase 1 your chest gets left alone all week after chest and back.

So, a reasonable plan would be to go later in the week when your chest heals. In my opinion that is.

WELCOME and good luck on Monday!

I work out in the AM too...seeems to be better for me! I do however have 1/2 scoope of whey protein about 30 min before I work out with 4 oz of water. I find it helps me a lot. The works out can be hard and if I am starving from the night before I tend to get tired due to lack of food. A study just came out saying it is actually better to have 10g of protein in your system than working out on a empty stomach. But do what works for you!

I also go to the gym at night (I'm doing doubles...but switched it..do P90X in the am and cardio PM). I would only suggest doing cardio at the gym...since this prg is pretty tough and I think double lifting on days (doing the dvd and then lifting at night) could cause over training. But again...do what works for you and listen to your body! I tend to stay up late too...but I would say try to get 8hrs of sleep instead of 6hrs. Sleep is when the body repairs and Growth hormone is released...key to building strength and staying injury free.

As I always suggest...I would keep a log in the forum...it has helped me a TON!

Thanks again for the replies guys! I wish I could get 8 hours of sleep in as well, but my schedule is just really hectic lately. I usually take an hour or two nap before bed though, so we'll see how it goes.

As for going to the gym twice a week, I mostly go with my girlfriend and I'll be taking it really easy since I'm starting P90X. Most likely just walking on the treadmill and stretching and stuff. She's usually there for an hour or so. I'm not planning on doing any more lifting or intense workouts anymore at the gym for the time being.

Thanks for the replies!! I'll let you guys know how it goes tomorrow!

Cheers!

HI

I would not eat before you do any of these workouts because they are intense and you will vomit. Im on my 4th week and before this I was running 7 days a week 3-5 a day and wieght training 3 times a week and it still kicked my butt. As for sleep I think you will find you will need more sleep that 6 hours. Hope that helps and good luck!!
