Doing great. Looking forward to core tonight after work. If you have a band it makes a decent substitute for weights and travels easy. I have one and might have to use later this summer as I'll be out of town some.
I'm also looking forward to phase II. I'm ready to get back into some real muscle activity after this week.

BTW I don't think I'll ever be able to do the walking pushup deal where you get low to the ground in pushup stance and run. This move and the crane are pretty much beyond my capabilities. I also still struggle on pullups(still using a chair for most and sometimes all my reps) and some of the yoga moves(the whole sequence that evolves from warrior 3 is difficult for me). Any particular exercises you guys have trouble with?

Chuck,

Sounds like you are doing great. I am having some issues with a couple of the exercises, but I feel pretty good about that. Considering...this is a cookie cutter workout that does not take into account individual requirements and limitations. After reading many posts...I see that most are in the same boat as us. It just takes time to build those muscles. Ha! I held the crane for .002 seconds and that was a victory for me. Also, I am still doing chair assisted pullups and feeling really strong about that. Of course I am looking forward to cranking out 20 unassisted pullups, but am very happy on where I am. I can see the difference already and feel great. I try the running pushup thing.....just glad no one is watching me do it. Ha!

You and I are in the same boat....however, we are still here to chat about it! Too cool!

Re:Starting June 6th 8 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 1
The plank to chaturanga run is the pushup move I'm talking about. I cannot get down. I stay up in the plank position the whole time, but I'm still feeling it. I think my main problem with some of these moves is the flexibility. I'm not terribly overweight, I'm relatively strong, but I'm stiff as a board. I've noticed a lot of improvement in my flexibility in 26 days.

Just finished core again and that is one good cardio workout. My heart is racing the whole time.

iflydc10,

Hanging in there! Just did x-stretch and I cant wait to sweat my butt of tomorrow on core. Its sounds like were all sitting in the same boat as you describe. Im still doing pullups with chair assist. However the difference is each week Ive noticed Im doing more reps and using less leg power to get myself up to the bar. I feel eventually I can do my first ever pullup unassisted in my 34 years LOL.. Flexibility is so-so for me too. The move in yoga where you grab your hands between your legs in warrior 1 I just cant do. Crane is a joke.

I jumped into P90X cold turkey. I havent exercised for 2-3yrs so I understand its going to take time for me to get back up to speed. So far I see some results in the mirror. Not as much as I expected. I think I needed to push myself a little harder. Thats what Im going to do in phase 2.

Never got a chance to pickup a heart rate monitor. Gotta get one this weekend to see if Im in the zone.

Just finished chest, back and triceps...ARX and a nice run afterwards....well over 1100 calories burned and I feel great. Today's workout was by far the most challenging I have ever had. I am in decent shape, but HOLY COW... Last pushup routine went to muscle failure after 2 and fell straight on my face. Had to modify some of the pushups to the knees...don't feel bad about it....TH's team was doing it too. Arms are sooo pumped right now. The post workout run I kept within my 65-85 zone to stay aerobic.

Hooah!

hello to the 3-4 of us that are actually still sticking with it,

Skipped a day but getting back into it tomorrow, personal reasons. Yea I see results in the mirror but not as much as I would of wanted by now. But, if you look at all the pictures of people, the biggest change happens from Day 30 to Day 60. So, as you said, I am going to push myself so hard and incorporate some running too. Give this next 30 days Hell.

Check in tomorrow after my workout. Plan on doing the Core.Syn & a little running. Real excited to start the muscle portion again on Monday.

True enough!

Had Plyo today! Great workout!!!!! Only had to pause it once and pretty much kept up with the on screen crew. One thing I really noticed today was my heart rate did not shoot so high and also recovered very quickly. Made me very, very happy!!!!!

Totally destroyed the diet today. Ugh!!!! Heading out for a training class tomorrow...need to really focus on the diet to get the returns I am looking for. Ball is definitely in my court.

Alright Homies! Keep bringing it.

Had a great arms & back workout. This was my first attempt at it and it blew my upper body away. I feel soreness coming on. Very intense! I am heading on the road for a week and depending on internet connectivity will I be able to post. No worries...I will be working out hard with you all.

Keep the faith!!!! Anxious to hear what you studs think of round 2!

Travelled all day and now at a hotel in Savannah. Completed 30 minutes on a broken down elliptical machine and kept my HR under 85% for 30 minutes. Going to really push it this week with lots of extra cardio work to jump start my metabolism. The diet is my "tip" of the week. Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Re:Starting June 6th 8 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 1
Well I skipped the rest day on Saturday because I'll be out of town this weekend and I may have to miss 2 days of workouts. Nevertheless, did arms and back today for week five. Some thoughts on the last few days.

-Yoga is getting easier, I can actually forsee me possibly doing the crane for the first time. I actually got up on my hands for 1 second and then I tumbled over on my head.

-The new chest/shoulder workout is insane. The guys on the video were exhausted and could barely make it through there reps. I paced myself and did Ok. The one armed pushup I modified by using my knees and then placing my opposite hand on a chair for balance.

-I did the best I've ever done on plyo yesterday. I'm with mjb in that I only paused the video one time and my recovery after each exercise was much faster. I'm looking forward to next week.

-Ab ripper x is easier everytime I do it. I can do every rep on every exercise except heel to the sky(I'm having trouble lifting my legs up from that position). The oblique moves and the scissors are not textbook form and I end up sometimes grabbing the back of legs to keep them up on scissors.

-Its day 30 today for me and I've lost 10 lbs. I'm down from 24% bodyfat to 21%. I feel better, have more energy, and my wife thinks I look good which is all that matters to me.

I knocked out Yoga tonight and for the very first time it was actually enjoyable. I can totally keep up now and the moves and poses are getting much better. Actually held the crane for almost 2 seconds. I was quite impressed with myself. I completed a pushup with the cast after every upward dog sequence and was a lot more stable. Overall, i feel fantastic. Even did the cult chanting at the end. : )

Tomorrow is legs and back in the hotel room and my first attempt at using the bands. Planning on running when I get back from class. Wish me luck.

Diet was much better today, but still needs a lot of improvement.

Re:Starting June 6th 8 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 2
Thank god for this forum, I need to vent! I really don't know what caused my failure today but I'm disgusted with myself.

Sunday I had a deep tissue massage and it hurt. My muscles were sore but I figured it would be good to loosen up. Before Mondays workout (chest, shoulder, triceps), I was curious and tried to see if I could do a pull up unassisted. Incredibly I did two standard and one reverse grip. I didn't do more as I didn't want it to affect todays workout.

The problem came once I started doing the first push up exercise. I got completely wasted and from that point on I could barely do any type of push up on my knees. Even in plank my arms were shaking about to collapse. The tricep workouts weren't great either but I managed on 10lb weights. Overall I feel like I did 1/2 the workout and I'm disappointed starting out phase 2 this way. I did improve on ARX though.

So I'm wondering if it was the expensive massage, getting cocky on the pull up bar, or maybe I'm just too weak for push ups lol??!

Robert,

Im still in the process of trying to buy everything i need in order to start p90x so I dont really know what you are going thru but I noticed your post and have a possible answer.

Have you ever had a deep tissue massage before? I love massages and try to squeeze them in as a reward here or there, and I was actually already thinking about scheduling one for some part of my workout. I wsa thinking after the first week cause I'll know I'll be sore but do you think I should wait longer?

But anyways, I've prob had over 10 massages in my life and only one deep tissue. I'll never get another deep tissue again. I always tell the masseuse they can use more pressure but the deep tissue was brutal. During the massage it was me trying to bare the pain but I figured it would "help" my back. The next day I was almost more sore than I ever had been in my life. It seriously tweaks your muscles (in a good way?) and that may have been what made you so weak. I was in so much pain, it wouldnt really surprise me if thats what caused you to falter in your workout.

Just a thought

- J

Robert,

I think you just had a bad day. I wouldn't put a ton of stock into it. This first week has me pretty spent too and I am working hard to meet the requirements of the new workout. Your situation reminds me of week 2 when I did the opening shoulders rolls of the chest and back routine and then couldn't do any pushups as I tweaked my right shoulder. I just worked all the other exercises the best I could and forgot the rest. The next week was much better and the shoulder worked itself out. The massage probably didn't help too much...but what the heck. Great that ARX is getting better for you!!!!!! Congrats on the pull ups!!!!! I need to try and see where I am at...just haven't done so because I didn't want to get discouraged.

outlawbiker,
This was my 2nd time doing deep tissue. The 1st time it was 6 months ago. It hurt on certain points but the lady was not as harsh as this Sunday. But even though it was hurting, I assumed it would be good for me. Hopefully I can recover in time for back & biceps. I wont do the deep tissue anymore. Ill stick with swedish or get my fiancee to do it. I do not recommend deep tissue massage during the program. Stick with X Stretch or relax. Thank you for your thoughts!

iflydc10,
Thank you for the encouragement! I messed up! I thought today required pull up bar so i set it up and I tried it unassisted just for kicks. When I popped in the dvd, I didn't see pull up bar in required items..... oh crap haha. Well, it doesnt hurt to give it a shot unassisted next time, worst case, just stop and do the rest w/ chair.

Re:Starting June 6th 8 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 0
Great leg and back workout this morning....minus the back. ha! First try with bands and they do not work so well simulating pull ups. I am not sure what the issue was...whether it was not enough angle, too close (I was stretching them) or just not big enough bands (I am using second from the top). I concentrated and 20-30 reps with a hold in the flexed position. I rocked the legs though. I am feeling a lot stronger and adding in all the little nuances that the folks on the video are doing.

ARX and running tonight when I get back.
