Scheduling Time / Missing Workouts 4 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 0
Question:

Like everyone else, they have simply become too busy in their lives that doing P90X for 6 days a week consistently is becoming a challenging task. Some choose to do it right after work, some in the morning.

If you missed a day, do you re-do that workout? Fit it in with another day? Skip it entirely? Or do you start the week over?

Now, what if you were on vacation or something else that distracted you for a week. You skipped an entire week's worth of exercise. Do you restart that week and pretend as if nothing happened or do you restart the program some?

I'm really trying to figure out how to schedule my time. So far I'm thinking 3 days a week, do a morning cardio workout. Get home from work around 5 PM, make dinner + protein shake...wait 30-45 minutes or so. Do P90X (strength mostly) workout. Recovery Drink. Eat a light snack kind of thing and another Protein Drink an hour or so after recovery drink. Then eventually that night, eat a light snack like a banana or an apple or something. Then when getting ready for bed, have a glass of Casein and Milk or so. What do you guys think of this crazy schedule?

This is a huge challenge, I agree, I missed a workout during this first week, so I punished myself by doubling up another day, one in the morning and one in the evening, but if you do miss a day dont let your diet go to hell, keep that going no matter what.

I found that the best time for me is to get up early in the morning at 4am, this is dufficult, but I think that is part or our journy here, we have to find time for our selves, and if there isnt time, you make time!

I am way to busy throughout the day I go to work at 7:30 and leave work at 5:30, I used to cook dinner every night, now I do my entire weekly cooking on sunday, so my weekday nights are spent helping son with homework, preparing lunches for the following day and watching NCIS

And suppose you are on vacation, well not be mean but no excuses...most hotels have a television, do it there. There is this guy on youtube he travels alot for his job, but as soon as he goes to a new town he goes to the grocery store, and does his workouts in his hotel room. I think reality is we can all think of a million obstacles and excuses, and my only response to your questions is make the time.

I missed basically an entire week last week due to travel. I have decided that instead of doing the Recovery week during week 4, I will do week 2's workout.

I've also decided that if I miss a day or two during the week, I will make up for one day on Yoga days (since I hate it), and the other on Sundays if needed.

For me, the best time to do my workouts is early in the morning. Around 5-6am. I'm a stay at home mom to a 4 month old and 3 yr old so there's no way for me to just take an hour during the day to work out.

Also, in the mornings, it feels great to get the workout out of the way and not have to think about it. I've found that if I waited till night, I'm way to tired...

If I miss a workout during the week, I just make that my recovery day and just move forward. If I miss 2 workouts, I try to double up.

I have P90X+ and also the one on one dvd's so sometimes I use those since they're a little shorter (i.e I use the yoga one on one dvd that's only 45min or I do the kenpo cardio instead of the regular kenpo).

I've been bad and actually didn't do anything this past week! I'm going to probably start on week 2 and go from there....

Good luck!

Thanks for the comments.

Hmm...please correct me if I'm wrong with my logic here then.

My original plan was to work the cardio days early in the morning, with an hour left for me to shower/smell nice ( for work at 7 AM...would put me around waking up at 4:45 or so). Then I was going to do the strength days in the afternoon that way I'm closer to being asleep so that my muscles can "rest" while I'm sleeping. I'd try to take in 80%ish of my protein before the workout, then workout, then finish my protein intake.

Is it better overall to work the strength days in the morning, and just do almost all of my protein intake right after?

The idea of doing a morning workout frightens me and excites me. I do get the sense that I don't have the time for working out in the evening, but to me the strength workouts felt like they are better left in the evening...what is your opinion? I'm a male, 6'0" 250 lbs with a fugly gut. Please do reply and let me know what you think about strength workouts in the evening vs. mornings!

Also would it matter if Yoga is in the morning/evening?

if you skip a day, do not skip a work out. if you only have 4 days a week to work out, do them in the same order. Just keep track of the last workout you did, and if it takes you 6 months to complete the 90 days, then that's what will happen. never skip workouts.

One tip though is if you miss only 1 day out of the week, you can substitute your rest day to catch yourself back up, but if you're missing more than 1 day, then do what I suggested above.

There are some days I simply have no time to do P90X. I make it up on my rest day counting the missed day as the rest day. Sometimes I might miss 2 days in one week. I try to gradually make up for it by not missing any days the next week and doing extra on the next week's rest day. Sometimes life just gets too busy. I'm actually 8 days behind right now, but I make absolutely sure I hit my nutrition goals on those no-workout days.
