Protein Shake Recipes / Alternate Ways to Have em 4 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
OK, so another round of questions from me.

My current recipe for a shake is 1 cup milk / water if milk is expired, 1/2 cup of berries, 1 scoop of Optimum Whey Protein, 1 Spoon of Peanut Butter ( to give a full feeling ), 1 scoop flax seed.

Now I'm thinking this. OK, so I'm going to have a normal Breakfast ( say Mushroom Omelette), a snack, lunch, another snack, dinner, than another snack.

I think I'd like to incorporate in some of my snacks a protein shake. But, if I do that above recipe I'll be out of everything pretty quickly! What do you guys typically have in your protein shakes? Or do you just take the powder and down it with water?

I'm worried that I need to basically make a big quantity of this shake to last me for the majority of the next day. I'm kind of scared trying to down say 24 Oz of a Protein Shake in one sitting...sounds like I'm trying too hard to put protein in there. I'm planning on making the shakes the night before / the morning of so it'll last me during work.

Do you normally have one scoop per shake, or more?

I'm mostly worried on how I can consistently, 6 days a week, have a protein shake nearly 3 times a day ( Morning Snack / Afternoon Snack / 1 hour before my main workout). The blending will definitely annoy my roommates as well.

Any suggestions? Not really interested in Protein Bars, either.

I love it, cause I can relate to the expiring milk!!! hahahahaha

In regards to the blender noise, you can get those 'stick blenders' that you hold. Next to no noise. Maybe someone else can help you out in that area?

In terms of the protein, and the amount you use. Generally, the more you buy, the cheaper it becomes. I know in Aus, you can buy the 'cement bags' which is a HUGE amount. It's pretty pricey, but when you compare it to a small tub, then it works out well.
I would also suggest investing a majority of money into high quality protein that you will consume after the workout. For the meal replacement, find something that is more cost effective.

How to take it? I know of people that will have it with their oatmeal or cereal!?!?!

I use powder and water. If I feel like rewarding myself, I put some ice cubes in or I use milk. I don't feel like cleaning a blender, so I never get too fancy.

yea, if i'm just having it to get my protein intake up, its just water and the powder into a shaker, and drink. the only time i break out the blender and add all those ingredients is when i'm having it as a recovery drink.

I read that putting milk and other ingredients in your protein shake may actually slow the absorption of protein. Anyone else ever heard this?

Can't say that I have. Proteins are broken down into their elemental amino acids prior to absorption. Maybe they're thinking it's a larger protein load so it would take longer.
