P90x Questions! 1 Year, 4 Months ago

I was thinking about getting P90x. I'm 15 years old, not in the best shape ever. I'm 5'11 and 145 lbs.
I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have a problem doing the program, but I can't follow the nutrition plan. I eat pretty healthy as it is but I don't think my mom will spend all this extra money for me to have certain foods when we're already tight on money. Would the program still work if I eat how I do now?
Meals Usually Are
-Breakfast, Raisin Bran.
-Lunch, Salad or Chicken Patty at school.
-Dinner, usually some type of chicken or beef.
I can probably fit in a tuna sandwich when I get home from school, all portions are fairly small except for dinner.
Another question; I'm pretty confused on how this system works. Do they give you a guide to follow for the workouts specifically? Or do they just say "do cardio this day, etc".

The workout plan is so specific that all you have to do is push play on the DVD and do what you see. The packet lays out which video to play every day.
There is a nutrition plan that comes with the program.

The Nutrition guide will break down what your diet should be for each of the 3 phases. You have to figue out which Level you are by your weight either level I, II or III. Then if you do the portion plan it will break down how much protein, dairy, carbs, veggies, etc... you need a day. Then you plan out your meals and snacks accordingly. I have been on the diet for a week now and at first it was pretty bland but now I am learning to get creative with it and make it interesting... This is the healthiest I have eaten in a long time and it feels good.

I think "need" might be too strong a word. There are many diet options for various people who want to see different things happen. If you're thin and trying to put on weight you're probably going to have a different diet than someone like me who is trying to lose as much weight as possible.
That being said, if you can feesably do the diet plan I think it's a good idea, but if not - P90X is still a great way to have a healthy exercise program.

The only way I can describe myself is skinny, fat, and muscular at the same time. I have the body of a skinny person with excess fat around my stomach arms and legs. I am also pretty muscular because I have been doing weight training for about a year now. I eat healthy but I don't have the money to get protein shakes, recovery drinks, 5 meals a day, etc. I'm going to go look online to see what the nutrition guide looks like and see if I can follow it.

One more quick question, does P90x come with a pull up bar and resistance band, or do I have to buy those separately?

You should add some vegetables, fruit and nuts to your diet. How about an apple for an afternoon snack? A handful of nuts for your morning snack? That gets you up to 5 meals right there. Your recovery drink can be a glass of milk and a banana, or milk and slices of whole grain toast.
Get rid of the raisin bran, it's usually too sweet. How about oatmeal? Or bran cereal and toss your own raisins in?

You can order the pullup bar from Beachbody, but it is extra, so are the bands.
You will need to have more protein in your diet. It also looks like your calories are way below 1800.

There are many ways to get in more calories and keep it healthy:
-peanut butter
-oatmeal
-there area NO fruits and very little veggies in your diet
-Dairy??
Possibilities are endless.
I don't follow the diet plan, but mine is quite similar.
Just keep it healthy

I have heard many different ways of going about this.
Many different people say anywhere from 1gram to 2grams per 1 kilogram of body weight for a whole days worth of protein.
Which is right I think it all depends on your goals. Do you what to lean out or bulk up?
For me I shoot for around 170grams of protein which is about 2grams per 1kilo of body weight. Just got to be careful to watch your calorie intake for all that protein. This amount seems to be working for me so far.
With many people it is a lot of trial and error...including me.

According to the dieticians I've talked to, you need 1.5 gm/kg lean body weight per day. To get your weight in kg, divide your weight in pounds by 2.2.
Beware...it is possible to get too much protein in your diet!!! Very hard on your kidneys and it can cause kidney failure! Make sure you get plenty of water with it and don't go overboard. Most people on dialysis can't do P90X!
Also, you may have to estimate your lean body weight, or aim for a weight somewhere near your goal weight and you'll be in the ballpark.
