P90X Beginner 4 Months, 3 Weeks ago

So, I recently started on the P90X journey. A buddy of mine has been doing it almost 5 weeks now, and after I saw him doing it, I figured I had to try it out also. Plus this way, we can turn it into a competition. I love a good competition. Anyway, I have finished doing a week of it so far. I have to say that I have a hard time doing all of the Reps he asks people to do, but even if I end up only doing 15/30 he asks of me, I continue on through the entire video. The only parts of the exercise I can't do right now are the pull ups. I'm not in any sort of shape to do them, on top of not having the equipment. Those resistance bands are starting to look like the best bet for me when I get around to purchasing them.
As far as dieting, I am not worrying about it really. I know I probably should, but I also realize that my weight issues don't come from over-eating. It comes from a lack of movement. So I am expecting to lose weight/get in shape without having to change my eating habits. So far though, I have to say my confidence has been changing since I started doing this program. It makes me feel pretty good.

first, welcome and congrats on starting! nothing like competition to motivate you.
just a quick word on nutrition. i did my first round completely ignoring it. and you know what? my results suffered, big time. you say you dont "overeat"...but what you eat matters as much as how much. i mean, i could eat 10 donuts/day, and have the be the only food i eat. i'm surely not overeating (about 2500 calories/day, which is about what i should be getting daily). but i'd be severely lacking in nutrition which will affect my workouts.
in any case, what i'm getting at is to at least TRY to eat well. at the very least, track what you're eating. they say thats the biggest key to losing weight for a lot of people. and if this competition is about losing weight, well, then you're gonna want to try to do it, a litte! just my $.02
whatever you decide, good luck! hope you win! be sure to report back when you both are done.

I would at least try to eat healthier as well. It would stink if you worked hard in the workouts and didn't get the results you wanted because you weren't eating right.

I want to know, did everyone have trouble doing some of these exercises in the beginning? I have completed a week of this, and I am now starting on the second week. I find I can actually do some of the exercises that I couldn't do in the first week, but I say that some of these I just cannot do. Mostly because my form is really bad. Like, when you do the Ab Ripper X thing, your supposed to have straight legs when you do a lot of the exercises, and I have to fight not to bend my knees. I am kinda hoping this will go away as I do more exercise. Any comments???

Yes -- most people have difficulty with the exercises at the start of Phase 1. If you find that you can't do even one rep of some of the moves, the videos show modified versions of many of the exercises -- I'd recommend trying them until you get the hang of it. As for ARX, you'll get better with time, but you'll still have to fight not to bend your knees. Remember: It's not meant to be easy, but your patience and commitment will pay off. You'll be doing tons of P90X workouts over the course of the next few months, so you'll have lots of opportunities to improve. Good luck!

To be honest, I haven't really noticed any sort of change in my body. At least, from the visual perspective. But from touching certain parts of my body, and they way my skin feels, I think I am noticing some change. Like in the middle of my chest. I finally have this dip where my rib cage comes together. My stomach doesn't feel like it sags quite as much, and my inner thighs, and underside of my biceps all feel tighter. I am enjoying it. Like I said, even if after doing 90 days of this, I don't see any results, but feel as good as I have been feeling each day, I am deffinetly gonna keep with this. I feel really good after I have done it, and strangely enough, feel less hungry after doing it.
