I must be doing something wrong... Help please 1 Year, 5 Months ago Karma: 0
Hello, I'm new to all this fitness things and body building etc. I'm 16, I play basketball and I'd say I'm on average fitness. I started P90x last monday, and after that my leg joints, chest, abs joints were in pain the folowing day so I wasn't able to do any other exercises let alone move in college till friday where I was back to normal, I did Plyometrics to start it off again and that was fine and dandy but now today my back of my legs are aching alot and I tried doing Shoulders and back today but wasn't able to complete it as my legs were in pain :/ I

t must have something to do with my nutrition which is what I thought. I've started cutting down on the junk food and is self aware on things I take. I eat an apple a day now, usually a packet of Instant noodles for my carbs/protein and a bar of Chewee (cereal bar) for fibre etc. I drink water as my drink material or juice when im at home. Buying P90x has drained most of my money so I can't really afford any of the whey protein powder which I can only purchase on ebay as I dunno where else to get them and protein bars I can't find any cheap protein bars anywhere. Any suggestions? Cause I'd get no where just doing an exercise, be in pain for the next few days, do another and be in pain for another day... who new working out could be so hard

Welcome,

You have come to the right place for suggestions and advive. this forum has helped me greatly.

As far as the soreness goes you can expect that on week one of every phase. We all have been through it with pretty much the same symptoms. I really think that your nutrition needs looked at though. Did you figure out what level you are in? Even at Level 1 what you are eating does not seem like enough. Do you want to lose or gain weight on this program?
If you are looking for Whey Protien try Wal-Mart, Sam's or even Target. They all carry it and it is most likely the least expensive.

Anyway congrats on your new journey. Stick with it and you wiil see results.

I'm sure that others will chime in on this topic.

We are all here to get help and keep each other motivated.

Have a nice day

Ken

Thanks for the reply, im not sure what level I am in, but if you have any suggestions on what I should buy next time I'm in the supermarket I'll look out for it. I want to lose weight, i don't know why anyone would want to gain weight unless they were skinny.

The thing is all these markets look great, too bad I live in the United Kingdom... So I don't know if any of our supermarkets have any whey protein bars, let alone the powder stuff. I looked into the P90x Recovery drink, any reccomendations on alternatives I could find in my everyday shops!?

Thanks for the help...

At last...a fellow Brit!!

To answer your question about where to buy the whey protein - Holland & Barrett.

They sell the bars too but you're right - they do cost a bit. I buy the Whey Protein in the 900g tubs and usually when H & B have deals (2 for 1, 3 for 2). They are still expensive but as I only buy them once every 2/3 months it's not too bad.

Also, you say you're 16 and although I'm not an expert on this - you're still growing - so maybe you should speak to your doctor before fully committing to this - it really is hard work.

Keep on training - it does hurt at first but it does get better. Have you tried changing the order so instead of doing the order that you should do it in, you do the following:

Day 1 - Chest/Back
Day 2 - Either Yoga or X Stretch or Ab Ripper
Day 3 - Polymetrics
Day 4 - Either Yoga or X Stretch or Ab Ripper
etc, etc.
This way you are still doing the exercises in the order you should be doing it in on days 1/3/5. And on day 2/4/6, you are still doing P90X exercises.

Keep in touch.

Uday

Some people use a big glass of milk as a recovery drink. You should definitely have some protein and some carbs after your workout -- I have an egg white protein drink (you could have a glass of milk, or some scrambled/boiled eggs), then I have 2 pieces of whole grain toast with some fruit-only jam. Also, is powdered milk available? You could mix 2x the regular serving into a glass, and you'd get more protein. Even though they talk about a recovery drink, you can come up with a recovery snack or meal, be creative!

Please make sure you are taking a multivitamin, it really helps, especially if you haven't been eating well up until now. Even the cheapest one will help restore some balance to your system.

Instead of a protein bar, how about a handful of nuts and an apple, or some other piece of fruit with the nuts?

I agree with Ken, it doesn't sound like you're eating enough. You should have 3 meals AND two snacks. Instant noodles are the worst, at least buy cheapo spaghetti (whole wheat would be better) and some tomato sauce. Breakfast, how about oatmeal?

Hmmm, thanks for the feedback guys, yesterday I did some Stretch X to help with the pain etc and it has been paying off, I will do Yoga today and try to get back to the routine tomorrow hopefully with no pain in the joints after the session.

As for the nutrition, I will check into Holland & Barrett but I've never heard of the store so I'll google map it Veerukka, Thanks aswell for the nutrition advice, I'll try the glass of skimmed milk and a boiled egg for my breakfast next morning and maybe a cereal bar
As for the multi vitamens, I have been taking some cheapo ones each day now and as for the fruits, I do eat atleast one apple a day or banana.

"Instant noodles are the worst, at least buy cheapo spaghetti" It's funny cause I went and bought some cheapo Sainsburies Spaghetti for 14p a can Man I am cheap xD

Hmm I've never tried Oatmeal but i'll look into it, I've never had much expirience with these whole wheat, oats, etc so I'll look onto it later tonight,

Thanks again for the comments

I was just wondering if I could get the actually routine of what days are what. I just started today with chest and back and want to do everything in the right order. I know it comes with the shedule but I borrowed the discs and forgot about that. If someone can take a pic of it or even tell me day to day what it is, that would be greatly appreciated!

I am on week 7 and still can't straighten my legs. I've always had tight hamstrings, must be the reason.

Right there with you. I have no flexibility at all, so I've been really focusing on form and straightening things out. I don't have any tips for you other than keep at teh program and like Tony says on that move- fight for straight legs and over time you'll get there.
