Hunting for pull up bar... need opinions 6 Months ago Karma: 0
So, since I'm going to be in an apartment late august I decided to plan ahead and get a pull up bar so I don't waste any time once I get there.

The pull up bar I use now is at my parents and its too big to bring with me. So I was looking online at some pull up bars including the p90x bar and I just want to make sure it will work properly.

Does anyone use a pull up bar different than p90x's? Also should I be aware of any problems that may occur? Thanks ahead of time.

I did the research and I think the p90x pull-up bar is the best out there. I also live in an apartment so it works fine. You may have to patch up the marks before you leave.

I have a bar similar to the P90X. Pretty convenient, just throw it up in the doorway and go. Works nicely. Oh, and I'm in an apartment too. HOWEVER, it does not go nearly as wide as the 90X version, so I just ordered one off of ebay ($50). I do like the fact that these are so portable, as I plan on doing a lot of traveling in a few months on a tour of internship sites so it'll be nice to be able to take this along and keep up while I'm surviving in hotel rooms.

Yea, it seems like it won't disappoint. About those marks though... is there a way that can be avoided? Like, would wrapping a towel around the ends do the trick?

Also, is it a hassle that the bar isn't that high? I mean, I'm not really tall or anything but it seems like I'll have to grab the bar then bend my knees to do a pull up. That seems like no big deal, but does it get old after a while?

The one I have now doesn't really leave any marks. May be a difference if you have a doorway without molding though. May be able to put a towel or something on the front bars, but I don't know if I'd do it on the back. At least with the one I have now, it seems like that MAY make it unstable. But you could test it I guess. If it does seem unstable, maybe taping the knobs on the back would help, especially if you use some foam tape.
Regarding height - my doorway isn't that tall either, so I have a similar experience. But it's not a big deal. Actually, when I get into better shape, I'll try tucking my legs up or extending them while I do the pullups to work my abs in the process! (although that may be awhile!).

Thanks man, taping it seems like a good solution. And yea, I don't know how long it will be 'till I'm doing those leg extension pull ups but the more I think about it, the less I think the height will matter at all. Thanks for you guys' help.

I got one from here...
http://www.karatedepot.com/tr-ex-25.html

It's on sale for like $40 and it's awesome. You don't have to screw anything into the door frame. Good luck!
